Hello everyone, I just want to say first that I am a poster noob in need of some advice:

1. I want to get at least 1 poster frame to start out with, preferably the snap-open ones for ease of use purposes. Any suggestions?

2. I would love to have a nice lightbox display but I would probably have to make it myself as I cannot plunk down the coin for one right now. Can anyone point me in the direction of some easy-to-follow instructions on how to make your own?

3. If I am just using the posters for display purposes in my room, wouldn't it be better to buy reproductions of classic favorites that go for hundreds of dollars? (Yes I would rather have originals but it would save a lot of money)

Thanks

I received my first purchase from EB yesterday. I snagged the Nightmare Before Christmas Sideshow Variant to go with the Mondo release. It's pretty nice! No creases either as this one didn't get run over

I've got both in a 24x36 sleeve until they get framed. I'll snag a picture tonight if I can.

Welcome to the forum, there has been discussion on frames throughout the forum, even on light boxes. While I personally have never made my own, there are sites available that offer them, if I can find something I will post, but I suspect someone here has some info handy on making light box frames. Regarding posters, if aren't interested in the collectibility of them, and just want them for the artwork, then reprints are the way to go, only spend your money on authentic originals (the type only see in movie theaters) if you want to hold on to them and let them appreciate in value over time. Also originals are clearer and generally a better paper stock, reprints tend to have fuzzy credits, and in some cases can be just as expensive as an original when they first come out.

Thanks for the info, I much prefer originals because of the superior quality. The only original one-sheet I have so far is The World is Not Enough, at least I think it is an original.

Originals generally are $25-$35 for new releases when they first come out, sometimes they are more though, and depending on rarity, popularity, and other factors, they can shoot up pretty quick in price.

No Moss DKR in the mail for me today. Is 16x24 a pretty uncommon frame size? Wondering if they will have them at hobby lobby or if it will have to be custom.

Aren't the studios missing a massive revenue opportunity selling these directly? To them, they don't mean much (after all they are just promotional posters that they expect theaters to "dispose of". You'd think they would sell them on their own sites or something.

Of course, I'm not angling to put you out of business!

I guess you could think of it that way, but they probably have their reasons why they don't do it.

OK, so to follow up on my last post with the Lord of the Rings aftermarket lenticular a few pages back... I framed my Gollum/Smeagel lenticular this morning, and then I hung both LotR posters on my theater room wall, between my other posters - The Legend of the Guardian lenticular, and an original Harry Potter 7.2 DS poster... you can also see part of my big Avatar 6-sheet poster on the front wall in the second photo...

The Gollum Lenticular does not really have a 3D effect, but rather has two separate images that change back and forth as you move across in front of the poster, one of Gollum and one of Smeagel. The photos below were taken at just the right angle to show most of both character images at the same time, right a the point where they change from one to the other...

Here is an image of the DKR Olly Moss standard edition print, sorry I didn't post yesterday, but this gives those who have one on order from Mondo an idea what to expect when you receive it.

Does anybody know where I can find high-quality images of the cover art for the new LOTR EE Blu-rays? I'd like to get some custom posters printed of this art (assuming posters of this art do not already exist.)

From my understanding they are using the teaser posters for each film. They shouldn't be to hard to find. Try eBay or something!

Thanks K5! There are lots of complaints on the expressobeans site, but it looks good to me.

Oh wow there's gonna be 5-disc EE sets coming out now?!

Though I probably don't need to buy another set. I already have enough copies of the Lord of the Rings

That Dark Knight Rises poster is pretty nice! I don't see what all the fuss is about?

Actually the Fellowship box art is from the final style "A", Two Towers is from one of the teasers, but Return of the King artwork was not artwork from any of the official movie posters.

The only set worth getting is the box set that came out in the summer of 2011, which was all three extended editions of the film in very nice case. That can be bought for around $50-$60. What is coming out now, are each individual film in the extended edition. I can't imagine why someone would buy one of the extended editions, but not the other two. Having the trilogy is the only way to go, in my opinion, of course.

Most of the time people will put the item back up for sale.

Just depends on the person I guess.

Thanks for the pic Kinsella! My first 'full-bleed' print. I'm excited to get it! Also sounds like the 'This is my Farm...' print could land at the same time. My wife couldn't have left for holidays with the kids at a better time
