So is anyone going to fly down to Austin for the first ever Mondo-Con? Honestly I am VERY surprised it has not sold out. They had said that due to the limited venue space, only about 2000 tickets would be sold.

A friend of mine and I may fly down for it, it's the same weekend as the Rose City show in Portland but I may skip that show for this year and go to Mondo Con. It's just rather baffling that the event didn't sell out right away, seeing how fast a Mondo Mystery Movie sells out.

There is no doubt there will be prints made for the event, and I suspect a healthy amount of them, possibly some exclusive to the event, which one would already assume. They mentioned they would try to have nearly every artist represented somehow, either in-person or via a print, etc. They also mentioned "anniversary" prints I believe and 2014 is a huge year for films celebrating anniversaries, such as Apocalypse Now, Halloween, Ghostbusters, Forest Gump, The Crow, Interview With the Vampire, Pulp Fiction, Field of Dreams, Alien, etc.

Not sure on MoviePoster.com and their "creases" more than likely they would be quite noticable, probably either a consignment poster they are selling for someone or used posters from a theater perhaps. Which title is it you are looking for? I can check my inventory if its something I have in stock.
I know what light box frames are. My theatre has those on the outside and a few near all three concessions areas. But these are normal poster frames all down a giant hallway (they have bunch of old posters framed like Titanic, etc. some even have those fold lines) and I wish I could describe the thing that goes between the frame but it's very clear and non-glare like you can see the poster very clear.

And I've been looking at a Divergent poster where they're both looking at the camera but I've only been able to find the one "with creases" for $20 but meh don't wanna risk that much i only have room for like 1 more poster anyway.

Wasn't sure, there are a good number of people who don't know what light box frames are, which is why I mentioned it. You may want to ask the theater manager about the frames, perhaps there is a name brand on them somewhere that he could tell you and maybe that will point you in the right direction on how to get a few. Divergent I have nothing in stock for, sorry!

A lot of theaters use frames similar to the ones from SpotlightDisplays.com - the 4 sides flip up so you can quickly replace the poster. They come with 2 sheets of plastic to sandwich the poster between. I have a dozen of these frames in various sizes. Well made and not that expensive.

Just called one of my local chain theatres and asked about the movie posters and they said they're only allowed to give them to employees when they're done with them or they trash them. Is this normal for chain theatres?

I need to befriend a cute movie theatre worker.

Yes this is very common, sometimes in rare cases, theaters even have to send their posters back, or a studio rep/installer will take them upon their next visit, etc, but those are very rare cases.

Yes, mainly Disney, Fox/Lucasfilm I believe asked for a few promotional items for Phantom Menace to be returned but I could be wrong about that one. I know there was something along the lines of if a theater got caught selling the film's trailer or poster or banner, they would not receive the film for their theater. I could be missing some of the details on that but remember reading and hearing about that back in late 1998.

I know our Theater has a room they stored them in when they were done and associates could dig through whenever they wanted and take what they wanted.

I new a girl for a brief time and managed to get a few good ones and quite a few random.

She never took time to look she would just grab 2-3 randoms for me.

Sadly not all were in good condition and a few were in poster fights... Damn kids.

My friend and I decided to buy passes for the weekend as well but still unsure if either of us can make it. Basically feeling it is worth it to snag tickets now, spend the $70 plus a few dollars in fees, and if we can't make it, then we aren't out much. But if then they did sell out, and we could go, we'd basically be screwed. I think the con is going to surprise a lot of people, Mondo is going to do this right, they don't want to screw it up and have people disappointed or upset that they spread the word online about it negatively and then people don't flock to it next year.

With only about 2000 tickets being made for sale, I still am very shocked it hasn't sold out and its been nearly two weeks since they went on sale. Probably a few factors, but maybe some think its more of a convention than a place to get prints, when it sounds like there will be plenty of prints being offered, what they are yet no one knows, but I think once Mondo gives everyone a tease of what prints will be offered, depending on the print/artist, you could see a mad rush of people wanting tickets.

When I went to Portland a few years ago for the Zelda Olly Moss variant, we got there 12 hours before they went on sale, and found over 40 people already waiting in line, some having gotten there days in advance. They only had about 60 of the 100 prints available, and people were driving from all over the place (some as far as southern California) and people flying in from all over the U.S. That was for one print, granted it was a Moss and a popular gaming character, but I would think there would be hundreds, if not thousands who would jump at the chance to attend Mondo Con but as of today, passes are still available.

Honestly it's very hard to say what they have planned, I don't have any inside information but generally conventions have "exclusives" meaning items you can buy only at the show. For example here in Seattle at Emerald City Comic-Con, we have had exclusive prints (not Mondo prints), comic book variants, shirts, etc. that are made just for the show. It would not surprise me at all if Mondo is also planning on doing the same thing, much like their Mondo Mystery Movie, whereas prints are only sold at the event and not online later. I would say the chances of their being super exclusive "only available at the con" prints is quite high. What prints they are is still up in the air.

Generally for conventions there are people who arrive hours before the doors open. With Mondo-Con I don't know if they are encouraging that, or if its even going to be allowed. One thing to remember is the venue is small, with only about 2000 tickets that is considered tiny. I think they want to go for something more intimate and that's a cool thing.

Reading that link on Slashfilms about it and the interview with Justin from Mondo they want to do it right and put the fans first. It sounds like there will be lots of opportunities to get prints, and possible original sketches, etc. Remember there are other guests left to be announced too, probably several more. And that weekend is also Fantastic Fest so there will be prints at those film screenings whatever those films happen to be.

I would say get there early each day, make sure you wear comfortable shoes, perhaps bring a backpack to wear with bottle water and prepare to walk and stand for several hours. When I set up at a busy show like ECCC I am generally confined to my booth for sometimes up to ten hours, drinking massive amounts of water and eating peanut butter and jelly so it will be nice to experience a con as a fan if I do end up going.

I know this is not a movie poster, but would anyone know where I could buy a real poster of this (preferably not Ebay i don't shop there)?

http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Teen-W..._i9080140_.htm

I regret not buying it when allposters had it in stock. I found a few on random sites but they say reproduction.

That's the thing.....there probably isn't a "real" poster of it. So many studios put out promotional images on the internet and then people come along and print up posters/prints of it and sell them and that then means some think a real version exists. For what little this may do you, try contacting the television studio/network that puts it out, see if they can put you in touch with their marketing department and perhaps ask them if an authentic television promotional poster exists for the show, and if so, could they email you an image of it to see if it is the one you are looking for? Many years ago studios would often make up official promotional posters for shows, ABC would do one for "Lost", 20 Century Fox would do one each season for "The X-Files", etc so there is a chance a real one exists, but my guess is studios probably don't spend the money on printing up posters for television shows since the internet is so prominent and they can just post advertising images throughout. But it's worth a shot.....

I truly believe people are getting burnt out on Mondo and some of the recent releases are subpar imo. Most of the good stuff only gets released at event exclusives or stuff like this. I gave up tracking down some of the older more desirable Mondo stuff when I realized the prices that I was considering paying for say a Stout Kill Bill that same amount of money could buy me an original piece of artwork. I do still love the few Mondo posters I have but they need to choose quality over quantity and start focusing on what made them so good in the first place which was unique posters. I saw where Tim Sale was going to be at the Mondo-Con which would be pretty cool meeting him.

Many would probably agree with you. I got on the Mondo bandwagon in 2009 when it was still very small, those were the days when you could call up Mondo and actually order something. But they exploded which was to be expected, and I can understand if a lot of the people who were collecting when it was first starting out lost interest when the odds decreased when it came time to getting a print. I have heard the same thing from several others about the latest offerings from Mondo, but I will always give Mondo credit, they made a household name of themselves fairly quickly and have brought a lot of artists, many of whom wouldn't be nearly as popular probably, front and center. Justin with Mondo is a really cool guy, I have met him a few times and he clearly has a passion for what he does. But yes, some of the prices can seem to be a turn off to collectors nowadays.

Even though I got tickets for Mondo-Con, I am not 100% sure I will be attending yet. Tim Sale is a really nice guy, I have met him several times, I believe he still lives locally, he introduced me to his parents a few years ago at a con, just an all around good guy. Curious what he will be doing at Mondo-Con print wise, would be cool to see him do an Iron Giant print, since it is celebrating an anniversary this year.

But what has me surprised is how Mondo-Con tickets have not even sold out yet and they have been on sale for nearly a month now with only about 2000 tickets being made available. With all the big name guests, and plenty more to be announced, and the number of limited edition prints which will surely be offered on top of the Fantastic Fest prints, I am just really surprised that this event hasn't sold out yet.

I think people are waiting for the usual big names like Stout, Moss, etc before buying but the names they've already announced would be enough for most i'd think. Tim Sale doing an Iron Giant print would be cool and it will be interesting to see what Laurent Durieux does since he is one of their hottest artists now.

Perhaps but Mondo had already announced that most of their artists would either be present or would have a print available (more or less) so one has to assume there would be at least a Moss, Stout, Taylor, etc. print at the very least.

Maybe many are looking at Mondo-Con as they did the first Mondo Mystery Movie. When that was first announced I think a lot of people didn't want to fly to Austin to see a movie that they had no idea in advance what it was, but then it turned out to be huge (Akira) and quite sought after. I suspect that when Mondo-Con does sell out, and then when the show happens, and people realize some really cool prints will be offered (assumptions on my part, no insider info implied) that people will then be upset that they didn't purchase tickets to attend. Maybe it is timing too, summer will be over, maybe a lot of people would have used up their vacation time up, schools would have started, etc.
