No experience with returning unfortunately... have you tried a plastic cleaner like Novus? A small bottle of Novus 2 may be cheaper than return shipping if it works.

Been awhile since I've posted. Second year of school just started and I am getting my ass handed to me

Have bought a few things but I've been so busy I could only get photos of the one. I managed to land a Guardians of the Galaxy Stout when they were dropped and I just recently acquired this bad boy:

It looks ridiculously good on wood. Next on my list: Django Wood!

With Mondo-Con this weekend, I am sure a lot of the prints and exclusives will find their way onto eBay. I am not attending the show, but I have seen a lot of the stuff being offered at the show via various websites and forums. Nothing that really did anything for me personally but I am sure Mondo has a few surprises in store for everyone attending....

While I can't go into any technical details as I know a good about of info about the infamous MovieGoods and their shady tactics, trust me if they are indeed shut down, it's a very good thing for collectors and this hobby in general. Personally I think the site MoviePosterShop is basically MovieGoods in disguise.

I'm in the dark, what kind of shady tactics did they employ? Are you a former employee or industry insider?

Been in this business for 20+ years, you hear and see a lot that the average collector doesn't. I have spoken to several people over the years that have purchased from them and their posters either smelled like fresh ink or they were clearly reprinted images taken from the net enlarged to "poster size". Some said they were told they were getting originals, when clearly they weren't. Others were told they were getting reproductions, but were getting "double-sided" reproductions which simply don't exist unless produced under the table. A good amount of the counterfeit Dark Knight Joker advance teasers back in 2008 that came out were trying to be peddled off as original just because they were double-sided, but they were reproductions. Studios don't print double-sided reproductions, in fact studios don't print reproductions. I spoke to a number of eBay sellers (and sadly a few dealers who fell victim to this) and all mentioned they had bought from M.G.

There was a time many years ago when they were a fairly legit poster source for collectors but I think the difficulty of getting originals (as it is for all poster dealers and collectors) and the internet being a haven for various poster images (some which aren't even official posters and some which are fan made art) made it easy to start profiting off the reproduction and knock-off market.

It's unfortunate, there are a lot of people who have in their collections which they feel are authentic originals are more than likely knock-offs. Not every poster and not every collector, but sadly there are enough. I have had to tell people their poster are fake at times and it's not a fun thing to tell someone. I remember a collector just had his Spider-Man World Trade Center teaser advance style signed by Stan Lee and showed me and he was going on about how he got it from a legit poster dealer he felt and I had to break the news to him that the poster was a reproduction and explained why. I felt terrible but felt he should know. He thanked me for informing him, I asked where he got the poster from and I think you can assume what I will say....M.G.

I am not anti-reproductions at all, just the opposite, they make for a more affordable alternative to those who don't want to collect originals. It's the knock-off/counterfiets that I have a problem with.

Thank you for the reply. It makes me kind of angry now. Do you recommend any good poster shops online?

If you fell victim to a counterfeit/knock-off poster and thought it was original, you have every right to be angry. If you are new to this hobby you know have educated yourself with some of the things to watch out for.

MoviePoster.com is a reputable dealer, they are based in Canada, a few other forum members here will vouch for them too. They carry originals and reproductions. I am unsure if their reproductions are licensed and legit, but they do carry authentic movie posters too. The main issue I have with them is they often times get domestic and international versions confused and don't properly title those posters accordingly. Their prices can be considered high to some collectors, but that is to be expected. At this time I really can't vouch for many others, Cinemasterpieces in Arizona is legit but he mainly carries vintage older originals and not so much the newer titles.

Personally I would avoid MovieGoods, which goes without saying, MoviePosterShop.com and PopcultureGraphics.com. They also sell on eBay and via Amazon storefronts. I also think they sell under the name PosterRevolution too but I may be mistaken on that.

If you have any other questions, feel free to private message me, I can't openly sell on the forum (that has to be done on the for sale/trading threads) but I have several titles in stock and may have something you are looking for.

K5, are they making fake double sided posters now with the slightly lighter back side image? That's one thing I always look for thanks to your tip on that.

No, to my knowledge there aren't any double-sided reproductions that I have seen with the lighter backside. That is something I should clarify for those new collectors out there that read this thread, even those who don't post.

Double-sided original movie posters that are made nowadays, while still double-sided have a lighter backside to them. What that means is the poster still has the image on the back that is on the front, just reserved but the backside coloring is "lighter", it has a faded look to it. Studios starting doing this at different times, for example Warner Brothers started in early 2008 with the first few titles being The Dark Knight. The first two advance teasers that were released for the film had the standard backside coloring meaning the back of the poster was the same color consistency as the front but then starting with the two final styles for the film they had the lighter back side and its quite noticeable when you compare the before ones to the after.

I know it's been discussed in the thread, but I couldn't find any pics. I'm interested in using top loaders for the extra movie posters I have because I'm running out of wall space but would like to display them somehow and not keep them rolled up forever. All I could find images of are small sleeves and the stock photos that BCW uses. I'm looking for pics of the larger top loaders. Also, how are your experiences with them for those who have used them.

Regarding top loader-style sleeves, I use them quite often for display purposes when I set up at conventions. I use the Ultra-Pro brand, they don't make a 27x40 size but that is a good thing, because you don't want one exactly the same size as a movie poster because the fit would be too snug and you could easily damage the poster trying to slide it in the sleeve.

The Ultra-Pro ones are 29" x 43" so basically it gives you roughly 2" to work with on the side and 3" from top to bottom. Ideally I wish they were 28x42 but the difference is minute so I am pleased with them. Quality-wise, when new, they are crystal clear PVC plastic, mine tend to get a abused a bit from packaging up for shows, etc, but I hang them with hooks from curtain rod at my booth.

If I can find any photos, I will post but overall they aren't bad at all. The cost though can be high, a "case" consists of 10 individually wrapped sleeves, with each sleeve being able to fit multiple posters. Ideally you could put two posters inside each sleeve if you wanted, back to back, and flip them to view the poster on each side if you wanted. Retail price I believe the 29x43 go for about $15 a sleeve so a case would cost $150 plus shipping more than likely. I have compared Ultra Pro to BCW and I felt Ultra-Pro were a better brand, they just felt a bit more sturdier so I went with them many years ago.

Go ahead and private message me directly and I can probably get them for you a tad bit cheaper if you decide to go that route.

Since I won't have light boxes any time soon I invested in some nice strong Yazoo tubes and rolled my posters in acid free paper. It took me forever but I pretty much got all my valuable ones (to me anyway) all rolled and protected. I rolled them sort of loose so they will be easier to unroll later. I got 3" x 30" tubes just so I could roll them a little looser.

Disney has a Cinderella advance up on DMR for 550 points. It's the same art as the Best Buy metal pack with the glass slipper in a spotlight. FYI
