Default The Thing

For those who missed out on Vlad Rodriguez's print for John Carpenter's "The Thing", as it sold out of it's print run (25 signed/numbered copies) very quickly when it was originally offered, he has added a very small artist-proof print run to his online store, only 10 AP copies exist, signed and numbered, size is 24x36 inches with the price being $85 plus shipping.

I have print #1/25 and it's beautiful, much nicer in person I might add. I have seen people resell theirs for a nice chunk of change, so if anyone is a fan, you may want to grab one of these AP copies up while he has them.

'Tis all mine
Can't wait to hang and frame this baby.
Love the '89 reference too in the cards

Purchased on the Mondo site without using any bots! Not that I would even know how to do such a thing in the first place...

Love that poster. I think it looks better than the variant. I wish could have got both that and The Goonies but I'm on a tight budget at the moment.

Just ordered one of these. Seems like a great deal if you're a fan of Kung Fu and The Shaw Brothers...

5 Deadly Venoms limited print.

^^^ Thanks, I like it. Not sure which I like more though. Going by the collectible standard obviously the variant, but I'm torn.

If going by the response over at Expressobeans means anything, a large number of those members like the regular. Plus, the variant will see out in 15 seconds anyway.

Wow that's a masterpiece. I love it. I wish I could get it, but unfortunately no extra money. If anything I guess I could use it for my desktop background...I think the regular looks better in this case.

As much as a fan of yellow as I am, I'd have to say I prefer the colors on the Variant better. The regular yellow release looks too over-saturated with blown highlights on all the skin parts/facial features. Maybe that's just the photographer in me but yeah.

Oh what am I saying, I'm not going to buy either. Not a Star Wars fan

I wish more releases were done this way, a limited variant but a timed regular edition. Picking up the regular soon since the variant is long gone by the time I read this.

Noob here and it's been some years since I used a forum.

I'll give you a little history about me. I was the VP of print Worldwide at WB from 1999 - 2009. Handled all the press checks for the most part (sans files sent to Asia or non generic Intl. 1-sheets). We printed out of Ivy Hill, Kater Litho, Midnight Oil (formerly known as LA Graphico) and AGT/Shawk in Glendale CA.

Kinsella5 has some fantastic info (I've been reading today) but a couple things I noticed that I wanted to clarify.

Some 1-sheets are one sided if they are U.V. coated. Now they are not done in the large run of 10,000 like a normal run but they usually do about 500 so there is that.

Also there are "press proofs" that people like me get. It's a smaller number and one sided also. Those are to show the higher ups that the color matched the comp as best as possible. Usually the comps are digital RGB and the printing is CMYK.

As for ebay, I have seen a ton of crap. I'm actually going to work with a friend soon to start selling some posters. I have some rare ones but I'm not here to start selling stuff. Just thought you guys have some cool discussions on 1-sheets. BTW, Drew Struzen as an amazing cool man. I worked with him even before I got to Warner but I spent a lot of time with him while at WB.

I knew Tom Jung too (Star Wars). My dad was at Fox when I was a kid doing similar work.

That's it and just wanted to say hello and if you have ANY questions on Warner stuff through that time (Lenticular Speed Racer... foil Matrix Reloaded) or even how stuff was and wasn't approved, let me know.

Thanks my man. Haven't worked at the studios since but I do agency work now...which is where I was before WB. It's crazy. Most of what you see that's done is so far from the really good art.

BTW, just bought a few weeks ago the LAST of the plasmas you can find anymore. 60" LG from Dell. They sold out. Bummed. Wanted another. I only have about 40 Blue Rays. I will be checking advice on theater set up (audio) wise because unlike my old Philips plasma, there are no sound outs.

Sorry, went totally off subject.

Yeah I know! Crazy!!!

I want it ... but I think $100 is the most I would pay. I am hoping that after the posters leave the theaters and they start flooding ebay, there will be a lot less demand and the pricing of the posters will come down to a normal price ($100-150). Damn Star Wars fans ... lol.

Right now I'm about to put this old lady out to pasture. It's cool and everything but no longer works in my house. It's an original from 1963.
