It was delivered from China, the seller had stated this was printed on high quality paper and was not one of the crappy knockoff posters from China. Turns out that's exactly what this was. Very disappointed, I filed a complaint with Amazon about it.
The bulk of stuff you are seeing coming from China and other countries related to this hobby are nothing short of crap as you have now experienced. It seems studio seem to be turning a blind eye to the sheer volume of counterfeit posters, prints, etc out there, and not all come from overseas, there is plenty from U.S. sellers who flood eBay, Amazon, and other sites. I have no problem with reprinted posters provided the seller is licensed to sell them. Tons of stuff out there is being printed off under the table, either the studios don't have the time or manpower to monitor this stuff, or they don't care, and I find the latter to be almost impossible to think of. The revenue generated by this knock-off garbage is probably staggering. What scares me is the number of people who buy knock-offs that think they are getting something authentic or official. I have had people bring posters to me at conventions knowing my history in this industry and have had to tell people it's a fake. Not everyone I have had to tell that, but the look on people's faces when you tell them you have a reprint or a bootleg isn't fun to witness. Hopefully one day studios start cracking down on on it, as does Amazon, eBay, etc. But with eBay, they are more focused on the fees they won't be able to collect from the seller, so eBay looks at it as lost revenue, that is why so much knock-off junk can be peddled on eBay, because they do really nothing to combat it, but like to pretend they do. Not all eBay sellers do this, there are plenty of honest poster sellers on eBay and elsewhere, it's just getting to be more difficult to find them when you have to make your way through the garbage sellers first.

I used to work for a major studio and was working for the Publicity department.

Keep in mind that these posters that we all cherish are just a means to an end for the studio. The studio recognizes there is a collector market out there, but the job of the one sheet is to get asses in the seats of your local theatre. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Once a movie has come and gone, the artwork is collected and destroyed to prevent people (likely studio or theatre employees) from making a profit on the side off the backs of free promotional items.

I don't want to tell you how many posters I have seen destroyed in this manner, but it is no different really than a fast food restaurant throwing out yesterday's fries. They are a means to an end and I have to say I found the experience somewhat liberating at times.

All of that to say that they could not care less about the bootleg or aftermarket concerning publicity items -- so long as the market doesn't harm their primary goal of putting asses in the seats of theatres.

I don't disagree with you at all, however when it comes to copyright infringement, some studios take that very seriously. MovieGoods was sued by Disney and I believe Paramount, for selling knock-offs, violating copyright laws, and I believe that was the beginning of the end for them as not long after they closed up shop, rumored to re-open under another name and relocate their operations out of Canada and into the USA. I too have seen a lot of posters get destroyed, sad to see that happen, and have spoken to some in the same capacity as you held who had to destroy boxes of posters, some of which that are highly sought after today, but some studios are extremely protective of their copyrights, Disney probably being the most.

Funny you should mention them, from people I have talked to over the years, the consensus is they are MovieGoods operating under a different name. Back when they launched. MovieGoods was fading away, their websites were laid out the same, offering the exact same product. MovieGoods home office I believe was in Henderson Nevada, and I believe MoviePosterShop is based in the same city. Now if you were to ask me my personal opinion if "I" would order from them, the answer would be a quick "no". Would I recommend others to purchase there if they wanted original authentic movie posters? My answer would be the same...."no". Just my two cents.....

He is looking for 24 x 36 reprints though, not original one sheets.

Yup I know, he and I have been talking through PM, but I wanted to let him and others know that it appears that site is just MovieGoods apparently under a different name and don't want to see anyone here mistakenly buy from them if its an original they are seeking. I have spoken to people who have ordered from them knowing they are reprints and were not overly impressed at all with the quality.

Can you really complain about 'bad bootleg' posters though?

I have often wondered, when I walk into those Asian stores selling DVD bootlegs, if I just grabbed a whole bunch of DVDs and left, and they called the police, would they get arrested?

Now that I think about it, there would probably be some Asian mafia after me.

It would be like a John Woo movie if that happened! But its the MPAA that is cracking down, perhaps not as fast as I'd like to see on the counterfeit posters out there but they certainly do on bootleg movies being sold. Ten years ago or so that would be a common thing to see at conventions, people selling videos of first run films, rough cuts, etc. MPAA would actually show up at shows and bust those people selling them, so that market has dried up a lot.

I am sure they do. If you compare their website layout and design and the products they carry to the old MovieGoods site, its almost identical. I always thought it was funny and yet pathetic when MovieGoods would take images that were never even official "posters" and suddenly have them available in various sizes. They also would take images of fan-made posters and then offer them up in various sizes as "Style G", or "Style F" when they were just posters fans designed.

I've been holding out for years from buying the UV VERSIONS for "Star Wars" movies 1-6. The only available versions were the posters with the graffiti labeled as "+Bonus Features" banded across the top. Who heck wants to view that advertisement on the top of the most popular movie posters of all time? Not me. Anyways, this weekend of 10/9/17 I noticed the Original UV Posters Are Back! Now I know Disney still has that little saying still at the bottom "Disney Movies Anywhere" still on there, I don't like it but it is very small and I guess I can live with it. The Original "Star Wars A New Hope" still owned by Lucas is ORIGINAL Poster Artwork what a pleasure to view. Jesus Disney get a clue, everyone on the planet knows!! You don't need to ruin the Original Poster Artwork. Bottom line I did purchase all 1-6 after someone re-introduced them back to VUDU's availability for purchase. By the way all those "+Bonus Features" are still there. They are listed in the sub-menus under the Original Poster Artwork the way it should be for all the movies.

For those who are Blade Runner 2049 fans, artist Vlad Rodriguez did a print for it, but only was able to do a very small edition for sale of only 10 artist-proof copies. Each signed/numbered, 24x36 inches in size, details and ordering information is on his site, direct link is below:

I think there was a site called Internet Movie Poster Database or something along those lines that had high-resolution photos. Its more than likely where some of the counterfeiters take the images they use to print off posters themselves.

Anyone by chance have any access to a Thor Ragnarok final 27x40 DS poster? Not up on DMR yet and don’t really want to pay $40 on eBay.

Patience Padawan, you must learn patience. It will probably hit DMR within a week or two.

Don't be. Once DMR has it, I am sure it won't sell out fast, they still have the teaser up. Good things come to those who wait.
