I have a bunch of movie theater lobby banners too. Most are rolled and as they’re vinyl that means there are creases (which can be removed from what I’m told). Some from Daredevil, the Lost in Space Movie (which is vertical and very tall). I’ve only ever been able to sell one, the “shower curtain” banner for the Vince Vaughn remake of Psycho.

I do remember people trying to sell the banner for Star Wars Episode 1 for around $1k when it first came out.

I still have mine.

I worked at a theater during Force Awakens and was able to sell all the one sheets for $300-500 each. I made several thousand dollars.

I worked at a 10 screen theater for about 10 years, '93 - '03....we rarely got more than 2-3 copies of any given poster. Managers, employees...there weren't any "good" ones left to try to sell.

Also...back then...anyone caught doing that would have been fired...at least where I worked.

I would say the majority of the original movie posters being sold are from theater employees, or people who know someone who work at a theater and then private collectors who are selling parts of all of their collection. Tons of fakes though one Bay and other sites like Amazon that you have sort through to find the legit sellers. Yes, theaters get a few of each poster, and managers and employees get first pick of what they want just as you mentioned, usually by the time a theater is finish with a poster it's not in near-mint condition.

Is there any cheaper 27x41 frames at any stores or online?

Just bought an '80s movie poster that was from a video store and didn't realize it was 27x41.

SnapeZo has some that size but I had those frames for years and they wrinkled my posters so trying to go back to the typical cheaper frame with cardboard backing.

I have a copy of Let the Right One In and I have one Neon Demon. I may let them go for the right price. Both are double-sided 27x40.

It has been ages since I've posted anything in this thread... when I ran out of wall space I pretty much stopped collecting posters. I've got more posters rolled up that will never see the light of day and so many great screen prints sitting in a portfolio that will never got a frame I didn't see the point.

I did however add one more poster over the holidays, Raquel Welch's Fathom (1967). It bookends the Bruce Lee Game of Death (1978) poster I got framed last Christmas in my office perfectly.

Hope the regular poster gang who check in on this thread from time to time are all doing well... Happy New Year!

Enjoy seeing original movie posters. I went through a phase a couple decades or so ago where I was buying lots and acquired several dozen for really cheap. Had originals of the BBTF trilogy among others and prices were way cheaper; think I paid maybe a dollar to five bucks max per poster in those days. But like other collections, it was getting out of hand and I was buying them just to collect. Just noticed earlier that people are selling movie poster themed fridge magnets and it's so tempting, but I'd imagine it's another one of those things where I'd start with just a few and suddenly I'd have hundreds.

Default Regal Theater Benefit Fundraiser....and Ebay Find

I got lucky and a local Regal Cinema was having a fundraiser to benefit a non-profit. They had boxes of one-sheets for $3 to 5. Zombieland Double-Tap, Ford v. Ferrari, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and a bunch of others. I picked up a view.....

Recently I found an Ebay seller with listings for $3-5 plus $8.75 S & H for the first poster and .75 cents each extra. I picked up a few for myself and some of my wife's favorites. Most of these are were "fine" condition. Unfortunately, I caught the tail end of the auction and missed most of the "blockbuster" films (Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, etc. He must have had 400+ posters across three listings. I'll have to private message him- I'm curious about his source. He mention he has around 50 framed that he rotates for display.

I plan to display the poster of the movie I'm showing on movie nights..... I'm restoring a double sided Bass Industries Marque light with chaser lights on one side.

Any recommendations for storage? I'd like to store them flat....and archival mylar sleeves a looking really expensive.

Movie posters are so darn big and you can quickly outpace your storage capacity if you're looking to store flat... I use an artist portfolio for my screen prints and store it under my bed... but the sleeves are going to cost you more than the posters if you're only paying a couple of dollars for yours.

Another option is to search Craigslist for "flat file storage". I know they pop up on my local buy and sell from time to time, if you've got room for one of those, that's really the best solution, as you can store many more posters flat in them, they just take up a lot of floor space, you're not squeezing one of those under your bed.

Any Lightbox you're using should have a good solution for holding down rolled up posters I'd think. The couple I've used never had an issue with taking them rolled and making them present flat.

LOL, about the size. Just saw a listing for flat file drawers on Facebook marketplace...... "Hello All, Here the NEW Deal.... I have I have two different sizes. actual size. have three @ 29"x41"x15" like for a "ANSI D" and 4 @ 36"X46"X15" "ANSI E" $150 a section.... not too bad. For right now I have a few shelves I can use that will be fine, Maybe I'll pick up a couple of archival boxes too. When storing flat, should the posters be separated? Any affordable acid free suggestions? I'd love archival slips but not at almost $8 a piece!

If you are looking at collecting more and keeping them safe, then I would invest in one of these: https://www.baroqueportfolios.com/co...rage-portfolio

I have one of those and love it. Although expensive, this really does keep your posters safe. And it's pretty easy to store the portfolio too, like under a bed. It includes 20 double-sided, acid free sleeves. This means you can hold 40 posters in it. I actually just ran out of sleeves for mine and ordered some more. The thing can hold up to 100 posters if you wanted to. But that's what I would recommend.

Yes, I've looked at those and it's very nice! I'll eventually pick up one and refills. I'm also planning on a couple of the archival acid free boxes and acid free tissue paper as an affordable option for separating posters.

I just picked up two theater single sheet lockable frames on Facebook Marketplace. One had the Titanic 3D reissue and the other had Jack Reacher. Behind those were A Dark Knight Rises, 42, A Good Day to Die Hard, and another I'd never heard of .... 25%.jpg It was a very good day!

Can you tell me how you got the picture into this post? I have tried i.imgur.com/jWoD83S.jpg, I have tried , and other things. I have no idea how you did that with just a NUMBER?

Do tell?

I lucked out! (1) I made sure to save the picture to a directory I could find AND the size file allowed; (2) Click on the paper clip symbol; (3) select browse and go to the directory with the file. Select the file.

The important thing is the size of the file. When you click the paperclip symbol it shows how large a file and type of file you can attach.

This took me a little while to figure out...... you'd think the little picture symbol would be it!? But it's the paperclip!
