Anywhere from $25 - $250+ I'd say.
Really depends what you are framing and what you want it to look like frammed and where you live. Custom framing is a lot more money than a frame you could buy at Walmart or Michaels, but it also gives a different (Some would argue better) look by adding matting and anti-glare glass with acid free backing and a plethora of frame colours/styles. If you catch Michael's on the right day with the right coupon's (I hate their business practices) you could probably get something in the 27x40 range, no matting, plastic not glass in front in the <$50 range. I mention where you live because custom framing is cheaper in the states than it is in Canada like most things I suppose, I got a triple matte, anti-glare glass and simple metal frame for a couple of 24x36 prints of mine done for around $250 each. |

does anybody know where I could get acid free backing for my poster frames?
Right now I'm using those cheap Michael's Trendless ones (I only get them on sale when they are 40-50% off and there is an additional 15-25% coupon as well) and I would like to get some acid free backing as a temporary measure until I come up with the cash for a real nice custom frame job |

Is there anything inherently "bad" about purchasing a reprint of a poster or is it just something that's looked down upon by collectors who only purchase originals? Is it a situation where this is basically piracy and the studio/artist is losing money on every non-original poster that is out there being sold?
I can understand the appeal to some people wanting to buy an original print and that being a big thing for them but I also see the appeal of just buying reprints if you like the artwork and want it up in your home somewhere and don't want to pay the serious amounts of cash that originals go for. Just curious if it's something that's actually illegal or just looked at as immoral or dishonest by those who value the original prints more, as the latter seems to be the general attitude in this thread at least. |

Ok so you do in fact have to be licensed in order to print these off, I figured a ton of these are just 2 guys in a garage with an industrial sized printer. I used to have a buddy work at a place that did blueprints and huge printouts like that and he'd make me all kinds of crazy stuff during his downtime.

Which internet dealers sell authorized reprints? I do not under any circumstance want to give my money to a counterfeiting operation. From here on out if there is a poster I like for a current movie them I'm going to get double sided originals. We have the pleasure to have someone in the business (Kinsella5) as a member here looking out for us. That is a tremendous resource. You're my go to guy Jon!

What I can tell you is sometimes it's actually more affordable to get an original over a reprint. I realize that is kind of hard to believe, but it's true. Let's use "The Dark Knight Rises" advance style as a reference. MovieGoods.com charges $29.99 for a reproduction that is 27x40 inches. MovieGoods has always stated if their product doesn't feature a "Authenticity Seal" at the bottom of each product page, then it is a reprint, and most of their products don't feature this "seal" if you will, therefore they are reproductions. Since reproductions (aka reprints) you find in stores are always 24x36, and poster dealers have in the past offered reprints at 26x39 inches, why would there suddenly be 27x40 inch reprints? It only confuses collectors new and old, and in my opinion is done on purpose to mislead consumers into thinking they are purchasing originals, when in fact they are purchasing a reprint. It's quite sad that some dealers have to stoop that low to make a sale, but they do. If someone was a casual collector, they would see the MovieGoods listing, and see the 27x40 inch size, and "assume" it was an original when chances are it's not, for the mere reason they don't have their "Authentic Item" seal pictured with it. So therefore, a person is paying $30 for a reprint, and I would personally be very surprised if it was an authorized reprint at that. Now you can spend $30 for a reprint, or you can get the original for a few dollars more "elsewhere" but remember with originals prices do rise, and the rules of supply and demand are in play, the lower the supply, and higher the demand, the more the poster will cost. Other factors will cause a poster to rise as well. You can also find the same poster but an original, being sold by a good poster seller called MovieMarket.com for $50 or from MoviePoster.com for $85 (currently after their sale discount). I still can't figure out why MoviePoster.com, who is a good dealer for the most part, still offer a Dark Knight Rises poster as "unofficial artwork" when it was nothing more than fan created artwork, but that is whole other discussion. |

What about reprints of those Mondo prints that are so so awesome? Or is selling reprints of those absolutely against the entire spirit of those things? :P
I'd love those Robocop and Jurassic Park ones but you cross the 30-40 dollar per-poster threshold and I'm out sadly. Last edited by Allforce; 09-28-2011 at 03:16 AM. |

But don't let me distaste for them stop you from ordering, just be cautioned that you may not get an original. TV posters are generally made for the television stations that broadcast the show, sometimes they have internal catalogs for employees of the station so they can order them for themselves but you don't see many of those get out there in the hands of dealers, etc. |
