I managed to snag a Mad Doctor print this morning and was kinda surprised how early the drop was. I passed on the Pinocchio print even though i did like it...still holding out hope for the Martin Ansin Planet of the Apes soon.
![]() This is very true as someone on another board i frequent said they picked up a Pinocchio for $85 with shipping after the Mondo drop sold out which is reasonable by ebay aftermarket standards. Last edited by technique; 11-04-2011 at 06:50 PM. |

If it is that's news to me, I found this on Amazon originally but it sold out before I could order it. I searched some more and found it on another site and decided to order it. It's definitely a reprint if its Tom Whalen's work, but that's awesome because I like his stuff I've seen and didn't even put two and two together!

I'm a big fan of his posters. I'm looking into getting a copy of his poster for Return of the Living Dead. |

Basically the prints were designed to resemble events in the show that were memorable, etc. The way it worked was they would give clues at the beginning of the week online as to where they would be unveiling a print in-person, once clues were gathered, they would then announce the location. People would flock to that specific place and they would do an unveil of a particular print. The print would not be for sale there, but people who showed up generally would get a little trinket, but what people would look for at the event would be a special website URL that would be the place to buy that particular print (think kind of a big online scavenger hunt in some ways). Once people there would figure out the website, they would post it online or tweet it out for everyone. The website in question would show an image of the print, price, etc. No one would know when the print would go on sale (aka "live") so people would sit in front of a computer refreshing the page, etc (much like a Mondo drop). Generally the print would go live about 15-45 minutes after the website was first revealed. The problem is was Lost had such a huge following at the time, the prints would sell out in seconds. Website crashes, etc and the fact that of the 300 signed and numbered prints made available, only 200 were sold to the general public, and as you can imagine, there were thousands of people vying for one. Some were more popular than others and started fetching a lot of money on the secondary market, Tan's "Crash" print was one that was going for over $1000 at the time. Olly Moss did one called "Locke's Secret" which was also insanely popular, thus very expensive on eBay, etc. At first a lot of fans didn't know about them, but then word spread and thousands upon thousands of fans joined the hunt for the next print drop (again, much like the Mondo drops now). In the case of the Lost prints, it was a flat 300 print run, all signed and numbered, again with only 200 of them being sold to the general public. There was a lot of speculation on which artist was working on a print, etc. The prints were now selling out in about 10-15 seconds at this point. The final print in the series was by Stout, and proved to be the hardest of them to get, and also the biggest one design wise (24x36 inches in size while all other 15 of them were smaller). For this last print, they had a big part in Los Angeles, tons of people lined up and they had a gallery exhibit and for those who attended they had a standard paper version of the last print they were giving away for free (unsigned/unnumbered). What really threw everyone off was they announced the website at the event in the afternoon were people could go and buy the last print by Stout, but the frustrating part was the website didn't go live like the other sites did after 20 or so minutes. In fact, hours passed, and still nothing. It didn't even up going live until close to 11pm that night, I remember I just happen to be in front of my computer and refreshed the page a few times and then it went live. The print sold out in under ten seconds, no joke, which I thought was interesting because since he didn't go live until nearly 7 hours after it was announced, I didn't think a lot of people were still refreshing the page, but clearly they were, and it went fast. All of the artists were given an allotment of the prints themselves to sell on their websites but had to wait until after the sixth season began airing so in January/February 2010 the artists were listing theirs for sale. Here is the image of the screen print Tyler did for the series: ![]() |

I threw my hat in the ring for James Rheem Davis Robocop variant, don't know if I got one or not he was selling them first come first... here's hoping as I think it would look great with my JRD Leon.
I didn't try for his Class of 1994. UPDATE: Just got an email from JRD, I got in on the Robocop varient! I'm stoked... I'm also a dead man at home for certain... but stoked just the same ![]() ![]() Last edited by roar; 11-11-2011 at 04:50 PM. |
