The LOTR posters aren't that bad of a deal but the collectibility is mainly in the Fellowship of the Rings styles (four different ones), since those were in very limited supply because New Line didn't make nearly as many posters for the first film as they did for the other two films. When they had to pump $250 million-plus into the trilogy in advance, I don't think the marketing department went overboard in producing posters for Fellowship. The second and third film had more posters, the second film had some nice ones and can be difficult to com by, but then for the third film, New Line produced a ton of the character styles which is why you are finding them on their site for rather cheap. The main one for the third film everyone wanted, but was rather difficult to get was the first advance, which was Aragon holding his sword, which was a really cool looking poster.

But for those wanting a set to have for collectibility would want the four Fellowship styles. Dealers such as MoviePoster.com and Cinemasterpieces charge $300-$500 per poster, but you can find them more affordable....if you know where to look, or who to ask.

If they are posters of any type of value to them or are collectible one-sheets, I always recommend having them professionally framed, never dry-mounted either. I can see ripples on the posters I have framed, but I am fine with it, knowing they are preserved between UV glass and acid-free backing.

Typically the unwritten rule was studios didn't sell original movie posters, as they were intended only for theatrical promotional marketing only. Sometimes though you can find an original being offered, nothing so far tells me those aren't official original posters being offered by WBShop, especially if they make the claim they are original double-sided. It really would not make much sense for them to reprint them only to sell them at 75% off on their site. It could be they went through their archives and decide they had too many in storage that they needed, so they decided to offer them for sale. Overall they are a good dealer to deal with though. Serious collectors are picky and they should be, in fact anyone who collects original movie posters should always ask questions to dealers and people selling, because of the large amount of fakes and reprints out there, its always best to be safe now, rather than sorry later. Any good dealer or knowledgeable poster seller will openly and gladly answer any questions a potential buyer asks.

Sometimes if you want an original and it is extremely limited, you really can't cut costs, but some dealers do offer better prices than others. eBay isn't the best place for posters because the majority of sellers either have no idea what it is they are selling, or misrepresent the condition of their poster for sale. What someone may consider a near-mint poster, I, or another poster dealer, would consider good or fair. Also, packaging is key, so many people think if they simply toss the poster in a tube, that it will arrive just fine, as if the carrier handles with kid gloves their packages, but that simply isn't true. If a poster isn't packaged up, meaning prepared for battle since it practically gets handled by multiple people who process hundreds of packages a day, then it won't arrive in the condition stated. Just a few of the factors you have to consider when going the eBay route....but first and foremost, becareful of the fakes and reprints on there.

I never used a specific ebay store...just searched for the posters I wanted. I also grabbed some lots of posters on there and have had some pleasant surprises.

Gotcha. Not sure if I'll end up with one from each source, but I may try it out to see. I wasn't particularly looking to start collecting when I bought these; I just wanted to decorate my theater... but it's a slippery slope!

So do you deal in posters personally or as a business? If you have listings or anything I'd love to get a link or something!

I didn't get into this to collect really like I said, but as one who has collected lots of other things it's hard not to want to get into it. This stuff gets expensive though!!

My first order placed on 11/29 has yet to arrive though I was charged on 12/1. When you select the free shipping option you do not receive a tracking number so I have no way to know for sure if the order was actually sent. I will keep you updated.

Funny I just checked on my order from 11/29 and it was charged 11/30. No shipping/tracking indication yet, and there's no free shipping to Canada. I sent another email to find out the status. I hate that, I would like to know when it will arrive...

Eh...if you have a really nice poster, don't put it in that one. If you have a Michael's around, try and download a printable coupon and grab one of theirs for about $20-$25 as well. They aren't fantastic, but they're better than the Walmart ones....the majority I had were Walmart ones, I'm now sick of them.

FWIW - if you use one of the Michael's or budget frames buy some acid free art paper while you there (2 sheets for the larger ones) and put that between your poster and the backing board.
