That cover art for The Crimson Kimono is probably one of my top five favorite Blu-ray cover art images that I've seen.

It is closer to Pickup on South Street in tone/style.

Well dang, that sounds brutal.

Was lucky today. Some good soul found my box and left it on my porch. I checked it right away and the order was correct--no duplicates or wrong orders or anything. Bridge at Remagen and How to Steal a Million are now mine.

Hope somebody will come around and redeliver your stuff. Otherwise, I dunno--claim them as lost shipments perhaps? I wasn't sure what I'd do if mine never showed up.

No supplements announced for THE CRIMSON KIMONO? I wonder if someone will be up for doing an audio commentary track?

It is really nice, isn't it? TT has been putting out some nice artwork recently.

Since TT isn't a big player in the "supplements" department, I wouldn't expect much.

I placed the following order for three sale titles:

How to Steal a Million (24.95)
Kiss of Death (19.95)
Where the Sidewalk Ends (14.95)

So, that's three classic movies for an average price of @ $20 each before shipping. As much as I've complained in the past about TT's business model, I'm really liking it now with these sales. The folks who can't wait can pay list price and get instant (well, quicker) gratification, and the folks who are more patient can wait for sales and pay less, sometimes a lot less. Win-win, I'd say.

We don't know about this release, but in general there are very nice supplements for TT releases—you always get a perceptive, well-written, and witty essay by Julie Kirgo, and there are often very good audio commentaries. Plus the custom art included with the movies is often quite nice. Does Criterion do anything more than that?

I really hope that at the least, Nick and Julie record a commentary track. I would be pretty surprised if they didn't. The House of Bamboo commentary was excellent and I'm pretty sure that as long as they have the time and approval from the rights holders, they would jump at the chance to spend a couple hours chatting about one of their favorite directors. I hope so!

Bad comparison because, yeah, Criterion do a lot more than that. Each label has its own pros and cons.

That's how I was with Two for the Road. I waited for the sale and with the $2 coupon jumped all over it. I'll probably wait a while for Bridge At Remagen with all the Criterion's I will buy next month

I wish they'd utilize original poster designs more often.

Just curious, did anyone claim the $2 code I posted on Page 1318? If not, it's still there for the taking. And if somebody claims (or has claimed it) please post as such.

Here are the TT release announcements for September, courtesy of the Home Theater Forum. Thanks goes to them for posting this on their site.

As always, out of respect for HTF's exclusive sneak-peak announcement window, I will not be updating the first post of this thread until TT officially announces these titles on their Facebook page sometime later today.

SEPTEMBER (1987) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

HOUR OF THE GUN (1967) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

LAWMAN (1971) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

BENEATH THE TWELVE MILE REEF (1953) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

GUN FURY 3D (1953) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

Wow, what an outstanding month! Some of my favorite stars in some great films. If you are like me and can't get enough of Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan, this month is cinematic nirvana .......Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan together in a terrific Michael Winner western; John Sturges gives us a his take on the Watt Earp Tombstone story, with a little help from James Garner and Robert Ryan; and Raoul Walsh goes 3D with a much anticipated Rock Hudson classic. We also get more Woody Allen goodness and a personal wish list title from director Robert Webb about.....sponge diving, featuring an iconic Bernard Herrmann score.

Very interested to see Beneath the Twelve Mile Reef as I'm a big fan of CinemaScope and this is one of the first three films shot in the format.

If I recall right, it was in production at the same time as The Robe and How to Marry a Millionaire, but the third released.

Not a thing for me for September. At least not right away. More Rock Hudson and Donna Reed are always welcome, but it's not one I'd have to purchase right away. If sales keep happening, I'll be looking at Gun Fury, Hour of the Gun and Lawman a little further down the road.

All good, there's a couple more releases that I wanted to grab, this saves me a bit of money to put towards those.

Criterion frequently does their own transfers and restoration. TT just releases what the studio provides them with the exception of Moby dick where they did color manipulation.

Criterion tracks down expert essays for each title, not just having a couple people. The supplements are usually far more exhaustive. Look at the upcoming Rebecca release and find anything TT has offered as extra that compares.

TT has some great releases. but Criterion literally invented the idea of special features for home video.

Great month for me. I'm in for all three westerns. I'm especially eager for Hour of the Gun. That one has been on my most wanted list for a long time.
