I don't think so.

Even though the studios market DVD/Blu-ray and digital together, I think they see them as different entities. Physical media is all but dead to them. Catalog titles in particular. They are somewhat encouraged by UHD, but they are basically releasing the “core” titles and best sellers from their catalogs. I do not think they see the format as the wave of the future.

The titles Twilight Time licenses from them are basically those geared to collector’s and film enthusiasts. They are not seen as cash cow titles, and licensing them out to another label and making some pocket change at the same time seems fine to them. Labels like TT, Shout, Kino, Olive and Criterion will be the primary source for catalog titles as long as consumers want them. But the main focus for the studios is now digital and streaming.

Question: Disney buying fox does that mean they will continue to use Twilight Time to releases Classics on blu ray or is this gonna stop now that Disney bought Fox? This was one of the issues I had with the whole deal.

Just asked the same question. It might since Disney doesn’t like releasing classics on blu Ray to a wide release. Disney’s classic stuff is on blu ray only thru Disney movie club. I have a feeling all the fox movies might go into disney’s Streaming service when it comes out and we might never get these classics on blu Ray.

To put it this way does Disney let 3rd party company’s release their movies? No they do it them self thru Disney movie club. That right there should kind of let you know Twilight Time’s future with fox

The short answer: we won't know until after the deal is finalized. It still needs approval from regulators, and these type of huge mergers often take over a year, so we're still a long way away from having a concrete answer.

According to what I have read, it is business as usual at Fox for the next 2 years. The 2018 and 2019 film slate will remain intact. There will be structural changes within the studio, lay-offs and reorganization. But honestly, I think everyone is over reacting to how this will effect licensing. The studios could care less about Blu-ray and DVD. They are all about digital and basically the films TT releases are not big cash cows for them, which is why they license them out.

Disney does license. But like the other studios it is usually not the big "A" ticket titles. The films that Twilight Time releases are classics but would never see the light of day on disc without being licensed. Honestly, do you really think Disney is going to release BD discs of My Cousin Rachel and The Incident? They will for digital but they have gone beyond caring about physical media. The licensing is nice pocket change for them and relieves them of any obligation to replicate and distribute.

For those unaware, this 1952 movie stars Olivia de Havilland (who turned 101 years old this year) and Richard Burton.

Everything will be speculation until more details about Disney's new business model for incorporating Fox's assets are released. Personally I doubt Disney wanted Fox for their classic movies. I'd tend to doubt anything changes in the near future unless dealing with smaller labels like TT, Criterion becomes a distraction.

With all the change that's been happening with ESPN I think that's where Disney has been getting ready for big changes with Fox. So I think streaming content and sports is where they'll be putting emphasis. I doubt they'll make many changes in the near future with how they handle companies like TT and others. I think they have bigger plans in other areas so I'm not going to worry they're going to put the squeeze to TT, Criterion unless there's an issue with streaming content.

You're ignoring that Fox has had an excellent restoration effort going on for many years now, 4K remasters of many of the "not big cash cow" titles you might be referring to. This work should go on and hopefully Disney isn't going to end it.

If future streaming services is important to Disney, then let them know that the restoration of classic films is equally important.

Yes, I am concerned about the restoration factor. Fox has been amazing in the dedication of 4k restorations and the preservation of all films. Based on how "iffy" the Kino releases of the ABC titles have been, it is clearly evident that Disney is not concerned about preservation of everything they own.

Thanks for this info. It eases my mind.

I read somewhere that the Fox sports channels wouldn't be affected at all by the Disney deal. I can't remember where I read it though. I don't want Disney messing up Atlanta Braves coverage.

The FOX Regional sports channels will be bought by Disney. Big Ten Network, Fox Sports, FS1, and FS2 will stay with Fox.
