Looks like the sale is live now. All of the titles on my wish list have dropped in price. All of the $14.95 titles I want are now $11.95.

I knew this was coming but I am still sad. As long as there was no official announcement I could tell myself there was still hope.

Well, it looks like I complained too soon. All ten of the titles I ordered are indeed in the $11.95 bracket, so I did come out ahead.

I just went in for 9 more. This will be it for this month. If they have some left I may get one more order in before they close up shop. Latest order:

Anyway it appears to be a straight price change -- 4.95 now 3.95, 8.95 now 6.95, 14.95 now 11.95

I guess that pretty much kills SAE sales other than those 35-40 titles (and increasing) no longer at TTM

The 10/115 is either updating or they've changed the list again. I'm not sure what's up with it right now -- I'm now seeing 48 titles instead of 112 this morning but several that were excluded are now included. Maybe they are still updating the the New New Sale

Even better several that were in teh sale this morning are no longer part of it -- it's appears they dropped about 60-65 titles that off the eligible list and added 5-6 that were excluded. Just bizarre that it appears one part of TTM had no idea what the other was planning

I ordered 14 titles from Twilight Time, plus three more at SAE that were not available at TT. Those were still at $14.95 but I don't care at this point. I have now thoroughly cleaned out all of my wants. If August or September rolls around and they are practically giving away what's left at SAE, I may pick up something else. (Someone make note of this post a month from now when I've posted that I've put in an order for a dozen more titles).

Even while I knew this was coming, I can't still help but feel sad and want to think Twilight Time for making so many films available that I never would've seen or been able to own if not for them. I made an order today using a coupon I had from Twilight Time for the following:

Seeing as the sale and service at TT will end on June 30, I ought to be able to maybe place another order next month if any of the other Fox titles I want are still there.

It looks like they are adding titles back to the 10/115 sale. Almost back to 112.

Edit: It looks like Lawman is the "censored" American cut.

Picked up the following at the new price-points:

And added one ClassicFlix title as it was $9.95:

I suppose that's it for me. Including today's order, I've purchased about 55 titles since becoming aware of the label. Very grateful for everything Nick & Co. did for the community in releasing such a great slate of films. I wish everyone at TT well.

Some very good deals and I hope all those who were constantly whining about wanting more discounts are finally happy, but somehow I doubt it. Anyway, a bittersweet sale with the news that Twilight Time is choosing to call it quits. I may have had issues with some of the ways they chose to do business, but I still supported them over the years and always appreciated that they were there. Losing a specialty label like them isn't good for any of us.

It looks like there isn't much left I need, even with the newer price drop today, but I'm sure they still need all the business they can get. Does anyone have any opinions on:

THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM
RETURN OF FRANK JAMES
TRUE STORY OF JESSE JAMES
SAYONARA

Those four kind of stood out for me, but they would all be blind buys and reviews I checked weren't overly enthusiastic. Well, does anyone have any quick thoughts to share about those titles?

Very sad day, although I'd been dreading this since reading that Julie Kirgo has "left the company."

I'm extremely thankful for the many fine releases, particularly major studio titles that were long gone from the limelight.

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite TT titles:

HARDCORE
INSERTS
THE INCIDENT
MYSTERIOUS ISLAND
EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS ON MAN-IN-THE-MOON MARIGOLDS
GIDGET
BANANAS
THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS
CINDERELLA LIBERTY
BLACK WIDOW (1987)
THE CRIMSON KIMONO
BLUE DENIM
CHILLY SCENES OF WINTER
HUSH...HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE

For those who haven't seen it:

IT’S TWILIGHT TIME FOR US!

After nine years of successful operations in which 380 motion pictures from the 1930s to the 2010s have been released on DVD and Blu-ray disc, the home video label Twilight Time founded by veteran Hollywood studio executives and filmmakers Brian Jamieson and the late, dearly celebrated Nick Redman, will not release any further titles and we will be winding down operations this summer. A changing market, the rising costs of title acquisitions and the passing of longtime partner and company spokesman Nick Redman, are key reasons for the closure.

As part of our winding down process, there will be a one-time reduction in prices to $3.95,$6.95 and $11.95 as of Monday, May 11th at https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/. Cinemagistics/TwilightTimeMovies.com will continue to sell titles while available through June 30th, at which time they and Twilight Time will cease operations.

Remaining inventory will be acquired and distributed exclusively by Screen Archives – effective July 1st 2020.

When launched in 2011, Twilight Time pioneered the concept of bringing rare and distinctive films of all genres to the marketplace in 3,000-unit Limited Editions, exclusively available at two website destinations: Screen Archives Entertainment and later Twilight Time Movies. This allowed devoted movie fans to obtain physical copies of highly desired titles which did not command shelf space at local brick and mortar stores. Nick aptly named the venture Twilight Time, because eventually the concept of film as physical goods would have a ‘sell-by date’ possibly sooner rather than later. Nick once said, “At the onset we never envisaged we would be around for nearly a decade before it was time for the sun to set on the company.”

During that time, the Twilight Time catalog has included fabled films from the libraries of Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures, MGM/United Artists, Universal Studios, Film 4, Protagonist Pictures, Toei Company and other entities, and showcased many Academy Award®- and international prize-winning titles. Thanks to Nick Redman’s 30+ years as an award-winning film music historian and preservationist, most releases have included synchronized Isolated Music or Music-and-Effects Tracks that provided a rare platform for the lauded and unsung composers so vital to the filmmaking process. Many offerings also provided informative Audio Commentary tracks involving co-founder Redman and a host of internationally noted film historians that expertly contextualized and enhanced the viewing experience.

From the beginning, the core Twilight Time players – essayist and commentary contributor Julie Kirgo, packaging designer Louis Falzarano, soundtrack editor/music historian Mike Matessino, disc authoring supervisor Jeff Jewett, and our project coordinator Mike Finnegan – have played essential and “best in class” roles in this unique venture. We also want to recognize the extraordinary help of our Distribution and Marketing partners at Screen Archives and Twilight Time Movies. Most importantly, from the bottom of our hearts we thank you, the appreciative film collector. You have supported us throughout this marvelous journey and will hopefully continue to do so while these “one of a kind” limited-run titles are still accessible to you.

We couldn’t have done it without you – our loyal customers!

They were over expensive and their discs came out elsewhere normally cheaper and some times better.
It's sad but the business model was obviously not sustainable.

Sad, if expected, news. Been buying TT titles since they first launched. Feels like a lifetime ago.

Thinking about grabbing a last few titles in this sale but the timing really sucks with the Vinegar Syndrome sale only two weeks away.

Anyone have thoughts on any of the titles below? I'm undecided.

Angel (aka Danny Boy)
Gilda Crane
Hell and High Water
The Keys of the Kingdom
Untamed

Very sad but also fairly expected news given the state of things. Looks like another order will have to happen soon despite already exceeding my monthly blu budget.

Consider myself quite fortunate to have acquired the majority of my most wanted TT titles before they sold out. Others I've been incredibly lucky to find secondhand at Amoeba Records (who are currently in the process of moving) in Hollywood through my dearly missed weekly hunts.

Still, every month I'm discovering new gems and bona-fide classics that have no HD (often including streaming!) release outside of a TT disc that I just wasn't aware of at the initial time of release. Sadly, I will probably never be able to acquire every single title I want from them as these discoveries will undoubtedly continue for years. Though that's not going to stop me from trying.

Indeed, I'm very very happy to have supported this company (with its depressingly prophetic name) quite regularly. Additionally, they've been the defacto distributor of almost all classic Fox titles released stateside for about half a decade now outside of the occasional Criterion. TT's official closure combined with Disney allowing the existing pre-70s catalog (and more) to go out of print is a huge death knell IMO unless the licensing situation changes. Thank goodness we received all that we did. Thank goodness for the significant enrichment many of our personal archives/libraries/collections have received due to their willingness to take risk.

So long Twilight Time. This classic movie addict will be forever thankful.

3000 units or bust!<3
