I have a first-class package that took 8 days to move from the post office in Phoenix, AZ to the post office in Seattle, WA. Pretty damn slow.

Mysterious Island knocked my socks off with the picture quality. Features are nice too. Wrote more in the specific thread, but it's a great disc.

You never know, stranger things have happened. It may be on a private jet ready to be hand delivered this evening by Dolph Lundgren in his Santa costume.

Just in time for Christmas, Mysterious Island arrived in a box about 500 times loo large ! The size of the box was even too big for the current blu ray box sets such as The Mummy, Underworld and even that Classic Media Godzilla DVD set
The box was perfect for the Hellraiser set from Arrow Video however

Will see how long it takes for "shipped" to turn into "delivered". But thanks SAE.
Posted the above Tuesday morning, it was delivered today, two days later. Kind of a record I think. Truly an Xmas miracle.

Now I just need to go get it, which I'll probably do in a few minutes. (It's a 20 minute drive round trip.)

Sony has really hit it out of the park with their transfers of Harryhausen movies. I can't wait to see what they'll provide TT for (hopefully soon) The 3 Worlds of Gulliver.

I just finished watching my Twilight Time Blu-ray of First Men in the Moon.

Ray Harryhausen might not have liked the anamorphic format here, but the source material certainly makes for a beautiful-looking Blu-ray. The transfer sports a brilliantly detailed filmic look, and the audio comes across amazingly well. The improvement in presentation over my previous DVD cannot be overstated.

This is a charming old-school adventure tale done right in its adaptation from the H.G. Wells story to the screen. The addition of Kate Callender, played by Martha Hyer (Cry Vengeance, Sabrina, The House of 1,000 Dolls, The Night of the Grizzly) and the use of Harryhausen's trademark special effects elevate an already fun story to a true visual treat.

It's tough to describe the plot developments of this film without spoiling the surprises for all, so my recommendation is simply for everyone to dive in.

I just finished watching my Twilight Time Blu-ray of the 2015 re-release of Mysterious Island.

This is one of my favorite films featuring the work of Ray Harryhausen, because I was a big fan of the Jules Verne source novel during my childhood, and because I love how the more advanced special effects techniques blend seamlessly with what is essentially a wilderness adventure story. The characters are also brilliantly established through the Civil War prison breakout and ensuing balloon flight to the extent that I could have easily watched another hour of footage with the men in the ballon. My only criticism of the film is that the opening credits sequence contains a rather notable spoiler for those who are unfamiliar with the story. Of course, the story drops the information much faster than the source novel does, so this minor criticism is almost immaterial.

This Blu-ray, just like the Blu-ray for First Men in the Moon that I watched earlier today, is a huge step up from my old DVD in every way. The picture looks beautifully filmic.

Speaking of FIRST MEN ON THE MOON, Martha Hyer wrote the script for ROOSTER COGBURN using the alias of Martin Julien. Her husband, Hal B. Wallis, was the producer of ROOSTER COGBURN.

Yes, it was a Christmas miracle. My order of Mysterious Island and First Men in the Moon was sent out on 12/21 and got here (Hawaii) on the 24th. Thanks SAE!

Just an FYI -

I am traveling over the new year beginning tomorrow afternoon and will be back Jan 4. Unless there is something I can easily update from my iPhone, all updates to the first post will have to wait until I return (and I will be checking this site maybe only a few times while I am gone). The only thing I can think of we are expecting soon is a low quantity update from the SAE sale.

Happy New Year

I'm looking forward to the low quantity update when TT releases it. I've been on the fence about a few movies.

What email address do I contact for a missing booklet? As my copy of John Carpenter's Vampires didn't come with one. Do I go to Screen Archives with that or Twilight Time?
