Honestly don't know why Fox didn't release this themselves years ago. It's clearly as popular a general catalog title as something like Working Girl which they did see fit to self release. The thought that this is soon going to be unavailable for at least three more years is ...head shaking and sigh inducing. |

While I didn't think it was a bad film, I really struggled to understand the enormous amount of love and affection for it. I'll give it another shot in a few years. Maybe it will click with me then. Wouldn't be the first time something I dismissed on first viewing played substantially different on a second years down the line. |

I've been planning on getting 9 to 5, but I had wanted to wait until the next signed promo to put in an order. I already bit earlier than I wanted to when Song of Bernadette and High Time were about to sell out and with the imminent loss of rights to American Buffalo. Suddenly there's all this urgency and stress and it doesn't help that they're releasing all these runaway train movies.

As suspected, TT's Runaway Train doesn't have a patch on Arrow's loaded edition. Will go that route if I ever decide I want to upgrade my DVD.
Fantastic film though for those who are considering it. |

To prepare myself on the last day of decision, I loaned a copy of American Buffalo from the library. Even at $10 + shipping, I wasn't gonna blind buy so easily until I know for sure it's a film I'll gladly own beyond its inherent value.
For the first 30 minutes, I was certain it wasn't, but afterwards, I'm not sure. Once the dialogue gets into the nitty-gritty, relatively speaking, with the sole three characters exchanging wordplay that exhibits personal philosophy and bile frankness through impeccable use of repetition, somehow this little film got me glued in. That's the Mamet Magic, I suppose. |
