Mysterious Island Encore did go on sale before selling out. I remember vividly that the sale happened, I was partially interested, the sale was over but then shortly after they released notice of how low the QTY was after that, I then resorted to full Price before it sold out. I may not have gone on sale at TT, but it was on sale as SAE. (SAE Sold out then the remaining copies were at TT where I had to buy it).

So in terms of the last year, nothing has sold out without first going on sale at some point from what I'm reading.
I could have sworn the encore of Journey got discounted near the end which is why I didn't consider it, it lasted for almost a year and sales started to become frequent at that time. I wasn't paying much attention to it though since I pre-ordered that sucker the day it became available. If it didn't go on sale though, then that would be the last non-discounted title to sell out and just a smidge over a year ago so pretty darn close to the original inquiry.

Knew First Men and Mysterious was discounted near the end so they didn't make the cut. Also two titles I didn't mess around with and pre-ordered the day they became available.

Oh how times have changed with the sales, a couple years ago I would have immediately pre-ordered The 3 Worlds of Gulliver, now I'm not concerned that it'll sell out before a sale happens. Not worried about Moby Dick either since only Twilight Time's stock seems to be low, not SAE's.

Pulled the trigger today on Moby Dick and Inherit The Wind. Surprised also that Moby Dick is likely to sell out very soon given the picture issues that seem to have bothered more than a few people.

It is one I predicted would sell out far faster than the usual titles.

The reason for this is the broad appeal of the film / subject. While the PQ isn't fantastic, it is the only HD presentation of the film that is even close to what it should look like and the other is a foreign release which a smaller percent of the market would be interested in importing.

I am surprised they dropped it down to $20 though given that is was a pretty good seller even out of the gate and hasn't been that long since it was released.

I am surprised they haven't had low QTY alerts for the Train Encore Edition and have offered it up for a seriously great price for the sale.

God, I hope so! I added Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf as soon as Warner Archive put them on sale. Suddenly, Last Summer now sits at the top of my announced release want list, right alongside Criterion's Jeanne Dielman.

"Miss Taylor, could I get you a towel?"

She was a great actress..and she was just stupid beautiful.

Well I went ahead and picked up Moby Dick and added Barefoot Contessa as well. Wasn't really planning on spending any more, but I didn't want Moby Dick to sell out and I hate to pay shipping on just one movie.

It's a good thing that people are picking up Moby Dick. It may not last the weekend.

Its lowered price point and imminent sell-out were enough to move the needle for me.

Couple things:

- I still wish Houston himself had played Ahab. Peck wasn't terrible but Houston I feel had a really good grasp of the material and would have handled the character's lunacy better.

- You can't expect much in the way of effects for a mid-50s film, but I wonder if Harryhausen's name came up at all when it came to handling the SFX. You have to think that his friendship with Bradbury would have helped a little there, and it would have been fascinating to see Ray's talents put to work in an A-picture.

All in all though, this is an admirable adaptation of a literary opus and I look forward to re-watching it in hi-def.

Ach, I can't decide if I should bite the bullet. Sometime I get a little "almost sell out crazy". I think my connection with the novel may be the barrier between me and certainly grabbing it.

I was tempted too but the trailer made me realize it's not an "own it" for me.

Kind of a win-win scenario to purchase Moby Dick. If it turns out to be better than you thought you keep it. If it's not and sells out there will be many procrastinators who missed out and will take it off your hands giving you a nice profit. You won't have any regrets

That's a fair point. My rebuttal there is that I'm not even sure when I'll end up putting it in.

I have a couple of questions about Twilight Time:

How long before release do titles become available for preorder?
Does Twilight ship to international customers?

I'm in Australia and want to nab The Bridge at Remagen which has been a favourite of mine for many years (and I've been waiting this on Blu-ray for a while!)

DVDBeaver finally has some screencaps up of Peyton Place- and I'm thrilled to see the T&O grading is nowhere near as oppressive as I was expecting it to be- especially after recent comments on HTF.

The caps looks glorious to me, with a satisfyingly broad range of colors.

Been waiting for this one since the dawn of the format 11 years ago and I so happy to see it's a winner.

Looks like I'll be getting an order off this month after all.

They do look nice but I see a heck of a lot of blue tint in some of the shots, I'm pretty sure Color By Deluxe was not meant to look like that

Huston originally wanted to shoot Moby Dick with his father, Walter, as Ahab.

I'm aware. I don't see that working, though. Still think Huston should have just stepped in and did it.

Personally, I think Sterling Hayden would have made a perfect Ahab. He would have brought the puritanical, maniacal fervor that the role demanded, plus he actually was an experienced sea captain. I'm guessing Huston needed a name star to get financing, and given that constraint, Peck was a fine choice.
