No problem, my man, I always enjoy talking film with you. One of the big problems with this film is the title. "Comes a Horseman" is a horrible title for a really great film. The films I compared it with, "The Hired Hand" and "McCabe and Mrs. Miller", have badass titles. When I was first getting into Altman films as a teen, I checked out "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" because it sounded like some cool 70s rock group. "Comes a Horseman" sounds like a title for a bad porno, but man it's a great film.

Much like Waking Up in Reno sounds like a bad French gay porno...

I have to admit, Horseman really didn't work for me when I first saw it, but your review has got me planning to give it another spin to see if it was just one of those times when I wasn't in the right mood for a certain film.

I'm thinking that I'll grab Comes a Horseman during the next go-around when I place a Twilight Time order for the four (yes, all four) leggy women movies that go up for pre-order next week.

I have a lot of still-unwatched westerns in my Blu-ray queue, including a lot of key Twilight Time releases (Gun Fury, etc.), so I'm probably going to dedicate the month of July exclusively to movies in that genre like I did two years ago to good result.

The summer days are long in July, and, as such, it's a great time to watch a lot of westerns, because those movies primarily take place in daylight.

(I don't like watching dark nighttime movies in broad daylight, because I can sometimes see the glare from my living room window blinds on the television screen when the screen is dark. Moving my television is not an option, since my entire townhouse is always bathed in natural light...one of the reasons why I bought this townhouse in the first place, because the only time that I need to turn on any lights during the day is when I go to the bathroom.)

I have exactly the same problem, especially since the main room in my apartment has two really big windows facing the sun taking up much of the wall (even with the film noir blinds down the room is still bright), and have been similarly binge watching a lot of Westerns lately.

I'm 4.5m from my TV, which is right next to a window covering an entire wall, in a massive room that opens up directly to the entire rest of the house. Right/left front/rear speakers form a trapezoid with the long edge to my left. The right rear speaker is almost in front of me.

It's possibly the worst imaginable home theater setup.

Fewer than 30 copies of “Emperor of the North” remain along with less than 100 of “Mississippi Mermaid”. ALL “Going Fast” titles on sale until May 30th.

We have at least one more at this time (silent films that is.)
I wonder if it could be The Iron Horse?

Fingers crossed - though it may be another title where only one of the two versions is in HD.

I'm surprised that these two titles haven't sold out already, especially at those prices. I'm glad that I already bought them.

Yeah, come on guys. Mississippi Mermaid, a cool mystery-drama set on the beautiful island of Reunion... Catherine Deneuve topless and in stockings! Buy it!

Yeah, Mississippi Mermaid is pretty good, I mean it isn't top level Truffaut but still is a nice little gem and well there's Catherine Deneuve. But then even second level Truffaut is better than many works. I was glad I blind bought it during one of the $9.99 sales.

Yeah, especially Emperor of the North, which is a 4K resto & much improved upon the JP Blu-ray I used to own. I wonder if the European releases also utilized this resto, though. If not, the TT should definitely not be missed.

That's a bit superficial, RC. For those serious cineastes among us it's an intriguing adaptation of a novel by film noir legend Cornell Woolrich about deadly romantic obsession that goes off in unexpected directions directed by Francois Truffaut at the height of his powers with Jean-Paul Belmondo at the height of his fame and the great Michel Bouquet. And Catherine Deneuve topless and in stockings.

I wasn't planning on getting anything, but I just went ahead and ordered Mississippi Mermaid and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? (both of which are blind-buys).

I wonder how Nick Redman is doing. His health has been troubled. I hope he's feeling better.
