Cage is just the best. The guy is just batshit crazy.

His performance in "Deadfall" is made more fascinating in the context of the film. The first 15-20 minutes are a fairly standard neo-noir and he and his performance just sends it completely careening into insanity.

Default October 2018 Twilight Time Release Schedule

Here are the Twilight Time release announcements for October 2018, courtesy of the Home Theater Forum. As always, out of respect for HTF's exclusive announcement window, I will not be updating the first post of this thread until TT makes an official announcement later today.

SWORD OF SHERWOOD FOREST (1960) BLU-RAY - October 16th

THE ADVENTURES OF HAJJI BABA (1954) BLU-RAY - October 16th

BLACK WIDOW (1954) BLU-RAY - October 16th

SHORT NIGHT OF THE GLASS DOLLS (1971) BLU-RAY - October 16th

For those who may be unfamiliar with these titles, here's a sampler.....Gene Tierney, Peter Cushing, Ginger Rogers, Van Heflin, Barbara Bach, and an early career appearance from Oliver Reed, plus some music by Ennio Morricone and Leigh Harline, a Hammer Film, a giallo, a murder mystery, some old-school action adventure, and glorious CinemaScope.

I'm thrilled that Black Widow (1954) is coming to blu-ray, and that Twilight Time will be the label to release it. The star-studded cast notwithstanding, the film itself is a ponderous and fairly obvious murder mystery, but Leigh Harline's score is a neglected gem (Intrada released it on CD a couple of years back), and it deserves one of Twilight Time's patented Isolated Score Tracks.

The film that I keep hoping Twilight Time will revisit is another film starring Gene Tierney, The Left Hand of God, which teams her with Humphrey Bogart. This was one of the company's first releases, but it was issued on DVD only. Like Black Widow, it too features an incredible score. In this instance the composer is Victor Young, a 24-time Oscar nominee whose credits include For Whom the Bell Tolls, My Foolish Heart, The Quiet Man, and Around the World in Eighty Days. He should have received a nomination for The Left Hand of God: the main title theme is absolutely beautiful, and the love theme is hauntingly exquisite, one of the best from the Golden Age of Hollywood. There was a CD release from Varese Sarabande, which was produced by Nick Redman, but this film deserves a blu-ray release, and Twilight Time is the only label that could do it justice. Here's hoping they're listening!

I also want to point out that Sword of Sherwood Forest is a Hammer production for anyone who collects their films.

Nice! I'm probably in for all of them, but especially Black Widow and Short Night of the Glass Dolls.

Short Night of the Glass Dolls is an intriguing giallo with a killer premise and a great Morricone score that's a mixture of the beautiful and the jaggedly unsettling:

For those who love the hard sell approach to movie marketing, the trailer for Genghis Khan (included in much better quality on TT's BD) doesn't stint on the hyperbole - why, it's the greatest performance every distinguished member of its cast has ever given and no expense was spared: "Where the story was set, so went the cameras!" - which must place the Great Wall of China somewhere in Yugoslavia...

Curiously that trailer is the only place Sharif gets top billing: on the film he isn't just billed last, he's billed last after the title and after such luminaries as Kenneth Cope (top billing goes to Stephen Boyd's scenery-chewing villain), and on the poster he's got last postion 'and/as' billing.

The Blu is a pretty decent transfer of a film that was very obviously shot in less than optimum conditions: the studio shot stuff looks great but, like most films shot in Yugoslavia to save money, when it comes to the exteriors there's not much the cinematographer (in this case the talented Geoffrey Unsworth) can do about the wildly shifting weather, much of it pretty overcast with the odd sunny day, but aside from the a couple of shots where there were minor neg issues (in one around 15 minutes in it looks like some early stage water damage has been digitally covered up but not quite well enough to hide what's been done) it's probably the best it can look.

I will blind-buy THE ADVENTURES OF HAJJI BABA. I've never seen it, but it's a sword-and-sandal picture in the original CinemaScope ratio of 2:55-1, and has a score by Dimitri Tiomkin. Those are reasons enough for me.

They had me at Eli Wallach. Even better is that this movie has "scenes of unequaled beauty and spectacle unparalleled in any motion picture!" Who doesn't want to see unparalleled spectacle? I love those old trailers.

October is going to be a great month for Twilight Time!

Hopefully, they get the Cinema Obscura master rather than the 88 Films master.

I don't come to these forums anywhere near as much as I used to, but once I saw Gene Tierney's name mentioned amongst the releases, I kind of figured a post from you would have been in here somewhere.

I'll be getting Black Widow as well as she's become one of my go to classic actresses for purchases now, so any of her movies getting a release is a big deal for me. One reason, like another of my favorite classic actresses (Marilyn Monroe), would be because so few of them are on Blu-ray.

Aww, he called me a friend. *gets all teary eyed*

Seriously though, I still have to watch my copy of Leave Her to Heaven that I paid $70 for early this year. I better like it obviously, but if I don't, I guess that'll be the last time you ever call me friend.

Every month, after Twilight Time announcements...

“I’ve never heard of this movie, I’m not that familiar with the cast, and the plot synopsis doesn’t really make it seem like my cup of tea. I guess I’ll be skipping this one.”

*The Great Owl skims farther down the movie description.*

Oh, wait... This was filmed in CinemaScope. Day one purchase!”
