Watched Cutter's Way last night. Loved it. Is there anything else in that vein available?

"Devil in a Blue Dress" is another TT title to check out. A terrific neo-noir. |

"The Parallax View" is another one to check out, although it's obviously more political than "Cutter's Way" or "Night Moves". Unfortunately, Paramount continues to hold it hostage.

Watched the BD of "Auto Focus", first time I've seen it in quite a few years. This is a fantastic film, although, fair warning, certainly not for everyone. It of course chronicles the escalating sex addiction of "Hogan's Heroes" star Bob Crane and his eventual downfall.
This is one of those films that, I have to admit, makes me laugh at times when it probably shouldn't. Crane (Greg Kinnear) and his best buddy John Carpenter (Willem Dafoe) have such pervasive sexual addictions that it borders on gallows humor. Literally every waking moment for these two is spent thinking about sex and, as with any addiction, it's all-consuming. There are scenes where Crane and "Carpy" watch homemade porn together while pleasuring themselves. Some of Kinnear's lines include, "I've got a hard on the size of Florida." Then, he sees his son's girlfriend and tells the kid, "Wow, she's built." You shouldn't be laughing, but you can't help it at times. The last half of the film is incredibly sleazy and, ultimately, sad. Kinnear and Dafoe are both extraordinary in the film. Kinnear is the absolute perfect choice to play this role. He projects an aw-shucks demeanor while secretly participating in orgies and captures Crane's devolution from pious family man to sex-crazed egomaniac. Dafoe, sporting a ridiculous bowl cut in the second half of the film, finds the core of Carpenter, which is a deeply insecure man who uses Crane to feed his own ego, but completely enables Crane's demise. Carpenter's sickness and dependence on Crane becomes more and more apparent as the film goes on. Maria Bello and Ron Leibman are excellent in supporting roles as Crane's second wife and agent respectively. Directed by the great Paul Schrader, the material is right in his wheelhouse. He does his best when he tackles stories of wounded men in denial. Schrader is also at his best when he can deal with material that can be lurid and alienating for some, but he always handles it with bluntness that makes his work stand out. TT's BD looks and sounds great and has a pretty comprehensive supplemental package. Last edited by mja345; 01-16-2019 at 06:27 AM. |

I read your comment over there. Shame they pixilated that shot on the TV screen, as it seems an absurd bit of censorship. I noticed it when I was watching the film and thought it was strange, but didn't have anything to compare it to. It had been 7-8 years since I'd seen the film.

TT hasn't been releasing a lot of films post the early 1970's recently. Not saying the movie choices aren't good choices, it's just that more modern films have a chance to sell better. Not sure why not, but they are working with Fox and Fox has a TON of great films that need a release from the post 70's. Not sure what's going on, but hoping TT finds a way to stay relevant.

I'm sure that's the case with the Universal titles, but as far as I know, TT is the only company that currently has a deal with Fox for catalogue titles right? Could be wrong, but that well is huge of potential titles.
