I recently saw Radio Days, previously released by Twilight Time.
Falling in roughly the middle of Woody Allen's extraordinary 80s run, I thought this was an extremely beautiful movie that is aware of the nostalgia it is depicting and disarms it with the genuine affection for the era that it is depicting and the bittersweet nature of the vignette like memories being shown. It probably also helps that the family through which the different vignettes are centered seems like a genuine lived in family and not just merely a collection of family 'types'. Also of note, and both IMHO are aspects for which Woody Allen's best films do not necessarily get enough credit, is the look of the film and also its magnificent production design. This looks like a far more expensive movie than it probably was and yet it looks extremely authentic in its period detail. I saw it off Arrow's blu which uses the same old MGM master from an IP that was also used on Twilight Time's blu. Although that master looks a little dated, it still does justice to said production design and cinematography. |

Any idea when they'll announce the next batch of titles? It'll be two months since the first one next week.

I'd love a Blu-ray of A PERFECT COUPLE, which is my favorite Altman film (and I like most of his films).

So...I wasn't especially interested in either of the first two releases by Twilight Time 2.0.
But I just recently discovered -- via an interview with Russell Boyd on Umbrella' new-ish "Sunburnt Screens" release of The Last Wave -- that Boyd did the cinematography for The Man from Hong Kong. In fact, it was his second feature film as cinematographer. So now I'm interested. The question, though, is that given it's early work by Boyd, is it worth getting the TT2.0 release just for his cinematography? |

I loved the new Venom (1971) Blu-ray. I had only seen a pan and scan VHS of this, so the Twilight Time version gave me a total new appreciation of the film.

Huh. I don't care enough to check, but I could have sworn some of the titles in this "sale" were previously sold out. Also, these were all cheaper at previous points, so this really isn't much of a sale.
If you're interested in any of these titles, check Hamiltonbook.com first. They have many Twilight Time titles on sale for $7.95 each, and their shipping cost is a flat $4 no matter how much you buy. That's a lot better than the highway robbery SAE charges for shipping, which I see is now up to $6.40 for a single title. |
