this is 100% correct. i was working for a site at the time, and when a reviewer's disc came in and he covered it, it was still available for 2 or 3 more days. he didn't get a screener, so it went out same as everyone else's, and then still had to be covered and posted, which added a few days. it was their first sell out, and that's what led to the ridiculous price hike (see criterion's first OOP DVD, Salo, and their first OOP BD, The Third Man, for examples of how said titles set the market).

Sound silly but select the money order option. Then just mail it off on the weekend. It doesn't ship until Jan 20 anyway.

After a long time of resisting buying any TT titles because of their prices, I finally caved in this evening and bought four titles (Fright Night, The Bride Wore Black, Judgment at Nuremberg, Inherit the Wind). I still can't believe that I spent $120 on four BDs. But, after regretting not buying some other TT titles before they sold out (Alfredo Garcia, Wild at Heart, Body Double, The Big Heat), I decided to finally take the plunge. There are four other TT titles (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, The Driver, Rapture, Experiment in Terror) that I am seriously considering buying. But, I figured that the four I already placed an order for have a greater chance of selling out sooner than the four still on my wish list.

Got my copy of Fright Night and Equus (for the wife). She has to have her eye candy although Jenny Agutter is pretty sweet in her own right

Look forward to receiving Breaking Away. Also ordered Fright Night although I have the European release - seem to be some nice extras on the new TT edition.

You might want to consider ordering The Driver soon. It's been on the last couple or so "low quantity alerts". Though it's not selling that quickly, I believe it's now down under 350 copies left.

Placed my order for Fright Night (replacing my original TT edition), Radio Days, The Purple Rose Of Cairo, The Killer Elite & Breaking Away.

I hope to do a couple orders soon to grab a few titles I haven't ordered yet (The Man From Laramie, Salvador, Birdman Of Alcatraz, The Blue Max, Man Hunt, maybe a few others) and then there are multiple upcoming titles I also want including the updated Journey To The Center Of The Earth (replacing my original edition).

Isn't the European edition that has an extra scene that was deleted in TT's version? he might want to check this matter to decide what verion he wants..

What are peoples' thoughts on The Bounty? I'm a Gibson and Hopkins fan and I tend to love 80's movies, but a period piece is a whole other matter. IMDB ratings are pretty high.

Anyone have the time it took for each movie to sellout?

I saw it when first released and thought it a huge bore and thoroughly unconvincing. Dull cinematography as well. From my recall it did badly at the box office. Give me the Marlon Brando version any day!

I think it is a very good movie and has two great performances from both Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins. It's the most historically accurate of the three Bounty movies and the one I like the best. It's a day one buy for me.

The Clark Gable version will always be my favorite of the 3 main Bounty movies. But IIRC, I thought the Mel Gibson one was about on par with the Marlon Brando one. Nothing spectacular, but still a good movie with solid performances. It's been years since I've watched it though.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll probably make my second order soon then.

I figured that breaking up my order into 2 separate $120 transactions (instead of 1 $240 transaction) would take the sting out of the high prices a bit. Plus, the titles in the second batch are ones that I want a little bit less than the titles in my first batch. (I wouldn't be completely heartbroken if I missed out on any of the titles in the second batch.)

If you're going to order 4 movies, then I would wait a few weeks until they have another signed freebie promo. They generally announce them a few days in advance and occur at 1:00 pm Pacific time on a Wednesday. The last 2 months they had 2 of them each month. I seriously doubt it will sell out by then, but you can always do the 'cart trick' to see if there are more than 50 left (if there are less than 50, then it will still take a day or two to sell out).

I think it's a wonderful version of the story. The cinematography is anything but dull, the locations are fantastic and lush, the acting is superb - Hopkins is amazing as Bligh. The music is by Vangelis and I think it sets the mood perfectly. The scenes of the Bounty crossing Cape Horn are intense and thrilling. Plus it was made in the 80s so there's more bare breasts on display than the earlier films (I'm talking about females that is, though if seeing Gibson, Neeson et. al. shirtless is your thing there's a lot of that too).

First date (in blue) is the date the title went up for pre-order, the second (in red) is the date it was declared sold out. Titles in green have been reissued by Twilight Time. It's worth noting that Christine had been announced by TT for reissue, but the reissue was cancelled when Sony decided to release it themselves.

I've decided not to make notes of titles that have gone OOP, but then some copies become available because of orders being cancelled, or something along that line. It's happened enough that it's hard to keep track of. So, the sell-out dates noted are for when the title is first declared sold out.

American Buffalo 2015 04 29 2016 09 12

This title did not sell out, but went out of print on the date noted because the licensor, MGM, lost their rights to it. As of 2016 10 18, copies were again available from both TT and SAE. Presumably, TT worked out something with the new rights holder to sell off the remaining stock.

Terrific film. I still prefer the Gable version, but like this one better than the Brando version.
