Yeah no doubt about that but I find hilarious the push for 4K resolution at home while the theatrical standard on much BIGGER screens is still 2K

The operative term here is "standard". The standard at home (Blu-ray) is less than 2K. Meanwhile, UHD, like the 4K found in premium theatrical presentations, is not the standard, but something better.

Don't use the 4k masters thread as a sole guide. There are 2k upscales that look better than most on that list.

Search for the thread that lists people's top 5 PQ.

I used it as a guide and then read individual reviews. PQ, for me, is just one aspect when deciding to buy a movie or not. If the movie completely sucks spending anything over $5 makes no sense to me.

[edit] That said, there should really be something next to the Mockingjays as they were shot anamorphic on 2.8K Alexa for a 4K finish. Goofy, it's over to you
Any thoughts on this please HD?

I am talking about movies here not standards: most movies are still finished in 2K resolution TODAY

This is true. Sadly, Sony was the only studio to start scanning films at 4K on a regular basis years ago.

That has a very dingy, very dark looking vibe. It's also not the greatest movie either. I'd strike that one from the list.

The Martian: Extended Cut
The Peanuts Movie
Sicario
The Revenant
Extreme Nature IMAX 3-pack
Extreme Adventure IMAX 3-pack
Pretty much any other IMAX film
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
The Shallows
Etc. Etc.

As for the player, I would probably go with the Oppo UDP-203 universal model when that gets released later this year.

Not only does Oppo make solid units, it is very possible this player may get upgraded to Dolby Vision HDR support. No other current player is capable of harboring such a possibility... not even the upcoming Sony.
