Penton, I have a question that is in no way related to Blu-Ray or even home video, <SNIP> Moderator removed as it's not related - NOT RELEVENT <SNIP> You seem to be a man with some years behind your belt in Hollywood, so I figured you might have some fun stuff to share.

Be careful - they are watching!

I think Penton can tell the difference between established (re: thousands of year old) religions and Hollywood vogue started in the 1950's by a 2nd rate sci-fi author.

Penton,
Could you please pass on a message to some of the suits at Universal and Paramount? They will never get a dime of my money for HD DVD. It really makes me angry to read articles like this.

Universal EVP Ken Graffeo; "I'll go back to what we've said over and over: the set-top player is the primary movie device. If you look at the attach rate of how many movies are bought for dedicated HD DVD players versus how many movies were sold for the PS3 and the Blu-ray set-top players combined, it's a 4 to 1 gap. Which says that people who own game machines are not buying at the same rate as someone who owns a set-top. And on the DVD side, your primary player is a set-top."

Seriously, where does this guy get his information?

Sorry, you do know that we’re not allowed to talk about no “religion” on this forum……..exceptin dead ancient religions like HD DVD or Egyptian mythology.
Come to think of it, wasn’t there a god in Egyptian mythology called Red-Antum or some such thing ?

Later.......... as it’s pouring outside and when it is pouring rain in SoCal, the drivers react like it twer a game of bumper cars.

Just a followup in case Penton-Man gets to talk to Ken Graffeo or suggest to any other reporters who might interview KG that they should do more than just throw softball questions at him. Given the above, I would like to see KG tell us why his side has to play the trick of not counting those PS3s at all if he says they have 25% of the attach rate of standalones. His side could count 25% of the total PS3s based on his 4:1 claim, but they don't, they either count zero when talking about players or count all of them when talking about attach rates. I realize KG is doing his job, but I seriously hope both KG and Craig Kornblau actually have more business sense than some of their comments would seem to indicate.

Couple more questions I would like to ask KG: "How long is Universal willing to basically give up the HDM market in Japan by only releasing on the format with a miniscule percentage of the market there? You said before that Universal would release on whichever format consumers chose. Does that apply to Japan too?"

This might not be the right thread for this, but I would like to see if PM has any comments on these issues. And if there is anything else he can share about strategies to get an even bigger chunk of the PS3 owners hooked on Blu-ray movies.

Hello Penton
Sorry if this was asked or posted before I searched and couldn't find it. I was wondering why Warner extended HD-DVD support 3 weeks longer? The only reason given was that they wanted to be able to release more of its upcoming titles on both formats LINK
Is it just a money thing for them?

They pushed HD DVD Release by 3 weeks so they'll release less stuff, all HD DVD release are affected by this

The last HD DVD will be Twister witch come out may 5 on BluRay and may 27 on HD DVD.. after May 31 it's over

Yeah, I think the original release actually said that support for HDDVD technically would end on June 1. It was just that the last thing they announced was being released in May, thats all.

Yeah, he's second in line to Anubis. Anubis being the Egyptian God of the Dead, and Red-Antum being the God of the Dead (But We Just Don't Know It Yet.)

(And sorry for posting in the Insider's Thread.... I couldn't help myself.)

I find myself between shaking with laughter and shaking my head in disgust every time I read this little bit of red foolishness. I own a PS3 and am now just shy of 85 Blu-Ray movies, of course there is not much more I could use it for with blind accessible video games not being a really big market right now. But every other PS3 owner I know is buying Blu-Rays. When both my brother and an old college roomate got their PS3s, the first thing they did was fill out the form to get their 5 free BDs. Both of them are big gamers, so there goes the gamers don't care about movies theory.

I know this bit of FUD isn't any more of a real issue than any other Penton, but it is really hard to not get annoyed at Mr. Graffio and the others who trumpet this line when it is directed at marginalizing those of us whith PS3s as primary player.

Personally, I cool the surge of anger by reminding myself that the studios whose movies make up my nearly 90 strong stack of BDs know very well how foolish this little bit of propaganda is. Most particularly WB, who know very well what the PS3 did for their 300 numbers on Blu.

Chris

Default Insiders from Warner and Disney?

Dear Penton,

since you seem to have a lot of connections in Hollywood, would it be possible to find some representative of Warner and Disney for Insider status here? I am sure that many here have questions and suggestions for those studios.

Hartwig
