Right, because it is confirmed by Marvel AND it is set in stone that when filming starts they will still be up to do it or Marvel changes their minds. Things can change so don't act dickish about it.

I would be happy with both of them directing Infinity War 1 and 2 but I would like to see Whedon finish up The Avengers films.

The contracts being signed and everything being announced make it a pretty remote chance they would switch back. Especially since obviously Whedon wanted to move on anyway, or else new directors wouldn't have been sought in the first place.

As anticipation and excitement build to a fever pitch for Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the blockbuster sequel to the third-largest movie of all time, Marvel is proud to announce Joe and Anthony Russo will join the franchise as the directors of Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” and “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2.”

The Russo brothers first entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” one of the top-grossing film’s from 2014, and are currently preparing to shoot Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War.” The third film in the Captain America franchise will bring the classic storyline from the comics to life pitting Cap (Chris Evans) against Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as introducing Black Panther to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with actor Chadwick Boseman ahead of his own film later in Phase 3.

Before stepping behind the camera for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Civil War,” the Russo brothers served as Executive Producers and directors for many TV series, including “Community" and “Happy Endings." Joe and Anthony earned a Primetime Emmy award for their work directing the pilot episode of the cult-hit “Arrested Development” series. Their film debut was “Welcome to Collinwood", produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney.

Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely Confirmed As AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Writers

Just like they first reported that Joe and Anthony Russo had officially signed on to direct Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 and 2, Badass Digest now reckon its a done deal and the brothers will be taking their Captain America: TWS scribes along for the ride.

And the CBM news just keeps coming! Before Marvel officially announced that Joe and Anthony Russo would replace Joss Whedon on the next two Avengers movies, Badass Digest got the jump on the news by a good week or so. Well now they're at it again, confirming that the brothers will re-team with Captain America: The Winter Soldier scribes Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely on the Infinity War flicks. These guys are veterans of the MCU writing game at this stage (having also worked on Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World and Agent Carter) and have proven that with the Russo Bros. they are a force to be reckoned with.


They'll first re-team for Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016, and then Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4, 2018, followed by Part 2 on May 3, 2019.

Joss Whedon Doesn't Rule Out Some Contribution to the Infinity War Movies

Joss Whedon might not be in the director's chair when Earth's Mightiest Heroes re-assemble against the mad titan Thanos in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, but the Age of Ultron writer-director tells Vulture that Marvel Studios initially approached him to pen the script(s). “They came to me about the movie, and what I said was, 'I'm tapped out'” Whedon explained. “And I think they knew that even if I could give them something, it wasn't going to be anytime soon.” However, the filmmaker admits that he does not rule out some sort of writing contribution to the Phase 3 event. “I love this place and these guys, and I can't imagine not sitting down and talking about the movies with them, but whether or not that's an official thing, I don't know,” he said.

With Joss Whedon out, Marvel Studios has recruited the creative team behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier -- directors Anthony & Joe Russo and screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely-- to tackle Avengers: Infinity War.
