Their TVs are crap. I went through a nightmare for several years in a row dealing with exchanges. Light bleed, flashlighting, clouding. And horrible customer service.

A lot of their TVs are. Mine isn't. It all depends.

2016 OLEDs had HDR issues and I wasn't up for paying twice as much for a bit better local-dimming, so I got what I got. In a couple years I'll be looking for something else, and the cycle continues on and on and on...

Bear in mind that Rtings review is based on the 1.0 system they had. About a year ago there were some closeout/clearance and open-box stock options in Australia for the 2016 KS8000 and KS9000 models. I nearly pulled the trigger but neither have DV, obviously.

Not saying they're not still impressive outliers at the time for the pricepoint, just that unless they used the 1.2 system to get the data you linked, hard to quantify.

I have no idea what the 1.0 vs. 1.2 thing you're talking about is, but I'm just focusing on the specs and not their ratings really. 1500 nits, good color volume, accurate as hell out of the box and high contrast ratio. Throw in what everyone agrees is good tone-mapping and you've got one hell of an LED in 2016 for $1200.

Today I am sure there are better options. I hope to find out in a year or two.

Its certainly a viable choice for most people that want premium PQ. For heavy gamers or all-day-long single channel watchers, Id skip OLED. Otherwise, Its Da Bomb.

My two concerns are: continued Dolby Vision issues like flickering, and every once in a great while I like to hook my PC up to my TV for some couch gaming, which I'd be scared to do. Also marathons of old 4:3 TV shows like Deep Space Nine.

I'm definitely considering it though. We'll see where the market and specs are in 2020 probably. Wife wants new walls downstairs.

I was also concerned about that as well. I’ve only seen flickering once in DV and it was Halloween but only the very beginning where little Myers has his clown mask. Grey bars are also gone now after the update. I game quite a bit (Battlefront 2) and don’t have burn in. If I have a long session I’ll run the refresher. My recommendation is buy your panel from Costco. They have an insane return policy and best warranty.

I wouldn’t be in a rush though, you have an excellent panel but if you do trust me and get an OLED. It’s the only display I’ve truly been 100% satisfied with.

There’s no flickering or any other problems with 2018 OLEDs. Be ready for a spiritual experience.

Walls.. Each to their own. I'd live in a rundown shack if it had an attached home theatre room... Air conditioned, with my computer desk at the rear of it.

Shack cost: 75,000. Home theatre cost: 75,000. That's how it should be! Throw in some premo crayons on the UHD shelf lit up with cool blue LED's and I'm sold.

Where do I give my OLED tithe? I need to be cleansed of my LCD sins, father.

If I were single I'd honestly be fine with a one bedroom apartment. I've never been about space, and the wife had to really push me to get me to go in on a 4-bedroom house. Especially since we don't have kids, it's crazy overkill.

"Happy wife, happy life" and all that.

We actually have Ds9 in one of my players right now and are running through it on worknights when we don't have enough time except for an episode. We go through 4:3 content all the time otherwise as well. 3 years later no real issues. I don't think video games are an issue if you're a responsible adult with no kids and don't go to a friends house whilst the tv screen is on and the game paused

4:3 would be as much an issue as Scope movies, as both occupy 3/4ths of the screen.

How's the near black with the vertical bars/banding from 1-5% on yours? I'm very sensitive to uniformity issues with real content. Watching in a dark environment, I am afraid to run into those.

I need to get that on DVD seeing as it will probably never hit Blu-ray. I'm currently running through The X-Files. Though I'm stalled on the 2nd season. This run through has been a lot slower than the last run through was. At this rate, it will take me 2 and 1/2 years to finish.

DS9 looks a good bit better upscaled off the DVD than the streaming versions do. I compared. I do hope it gets an HD remaster someday though.
