Default Packaging rant

I'm sick of receiving a movie, brand new which has atleast 3 sticky pieces of plastic to rip off the top, bottom and side plus 2 securty tags, plus you have the shrinkwrap which is covering the entire thing to start with anyway.

Not only does it take forever to open the damn case but it also ruins the case too!

I have just payed for a new Blu-Ray case because this one is now ruined after leaving so much sticky residue on the case edges, trying to remove it just made things worse so I have bought a case from ebay!

The only slightly good thing that has come from this is I have bought a Europe case as to the US case which was smaller, which is all besides the point.

I wasn't too sure of where to post this so it's going in the Blu-ray Movies and Releases section for now.

Sometimes I feel like I'm beatin' a dead horse
And I don't know why you'd be bringin' me down
I'd like to think that our love's worth a tad more
It may sound funny but you'd think by now I'd be smilin'
I guess some things never change

I actually never have had an issue with taking off any packing on my Blu-Rays. They all seem to come right off.

Though my only complaint has to be the 5 pieces of packaging to remove.
Shrink Wrap - 1
Stickys - 3
Security Tag - 1

Though there have been some DVDs that I actually had to dig my fingernails into the packaging to peel them off. Now that really upset me.

So far I've been impressed with how easy it is to peel off the stickys for Blu-Rays.

Label residue can easily be removed with goo gone. Most of the time I have no trouble but once in a while they don't come off very well. As long as people steal stuff there will be a need to take such drastic measures.

Just don't try to remove that security thing on the back of the WB coffee book blu-rays. Tried it yesterday on Natural Born Killers, and it took off some of the cardboard case that the blu is packaged in.

I feel your pain.

I might also add this perticular Blu-Ray seemed to have a couple of smears on it, even though it was factory sealed, I just don't understand, they did look like finger smears too.

I don't really want to bother trying to clean them off, it would probably only make things worse.

Well, I suggest just using ebay, it's cheap enough.

Search for Blu-Ray Case under Lowest Price First, Buy it Now.

A small investment of a couple of dollars on a box of razor blades will solve all your problems. All you have to do is cut along the top and side seams of the case, and shrink wrap comes right off, the security labels come off easier. As for the security tags, just leave them on. I mean, you're only going to see them for the 1 second it takes to take the BD out of the case or put it back in.

I wouldn't mind the security tags or the shrink wrap so much if the stickys hadn't been included, but they've ruined what was a nice looking Blu-Ray.

Agreed, leaving some kind of dent or mark on the box isn't very nice.

I wished I had the same experiance, I can only guess it got hot through the weather, maybe the heat got to it.

I don't think that stuff is available here, I actually googled an answer before I tried lighter fluid, which worked to an extent, but not good enough.

Four easy steps to effortless, gooless, and clutter-free BD storage:
1) Cut into case as violently as required without care to the state of the case. Violence to the case is therapy for having to get through security stickers that dare to presume you, an honest customer, a thief.
2) Remove BD(s) carefully.
3) Insert BD(s) into disc binder.
4) Throw tattered BD case (and inserts) in the trash.

If you have completed these steps, you have neither worry of goo nor the wrath of your spouse as you displace yet another living room plant with an unsightly disc case tower.

(For those who think I'm kidding, I'm absolutely not. Remember your 'collectible' VHS tapes? What are they worth to you at this point? How about your 'collectible' DVDs several years from now? And then eventually your Blus? It's all in the disc, not the case, and even your discs will eventually be replaced and tossed as valueless. Get past that and you can live clutter-free without fear of goo. And it's so much easier to pick through discs in a binder than hundreds of cases.)

Oh.. and, um.. how is this thread still going strong?

At least until your cat decides that your binder is a litter box and takes a leak on it. I still haven't been able to listen to over 100 CDs because I refuse to go near that thing! I learned my lesson to keep them seperately in a case now. Also all that going in and out of the binder scratched up my CDs, and even with the protective coating on the BD, I'm still worried I'll tear them up like that.

Default Men in Black Blu-ray Sticker Residue Problems

I received an order yesterday of some movie that I ordered including Men in Black on Blu-Ray.

As many of your are probably aware, it comes with a cardboard slip cover, which has a big obnoxious sticker advertising the e-cash or whatever for Hancock.

I want to remove this sticker, and I slowly began to peal it back, but all of the sticky gunk continued to stay on the cardboard slip cover.

Does anyone know how I can get that stuff off of there without damaging the cover?

Unhappy Same here and probably for everyone

If you like to keep the slipcover (like me) you're just SOL.

It stinks the way we're supposed to ruin the packaging to get these promotions, rebates, etc. I also hate cutting the UPC proof-of-purchase out because it ruins the look of the case.

I think they do it on purpose to keep the redemption rates lower.

That stuff won't damage the card board cover? I don't want the ink on the front of the box to come off or something along with the sticky-goo from the sticker.

I hated taking that thing off. Why didnt they just give us a small sticker with a paper ticket inside.. instead of some big sticker and then struggling to read the code on the back.

I have this same problem...I always get gunk stuff on the slipcase cover..I just use Goo Gone. You squirt a little bit on a paper towl and then just rub it off. Works great. [And no, no damage to the slipcase at all.]

Because it takes manual labor to stick the paper ticket inside, whereas the sticker can be applied via machine easily.
