Default Security Labels

Sorry guys, but I just have to vent. I am so sick and tired of these annoying security labels they put over each side of the BD case.

I just opened Apocalypto, and this case had 3 of those sticky suckers. When peeling/pulling them off, they left an enormous amount of sticky residue on the plastic cover that was a ***** to get off.

With trial and error I have found that using normal scotch tape is the best way to get it off. Thus take a strip of scotch tape, put it over the sticky residue, and yank it off. Obviously you will have to do this several times ... (In my case like a hundred times) ... but at least it will get it off nice and clean. Don't mess with nailpolish remover etc. etc. because it will only make things worse.

Nonetheless, I am so tired of this crap and I honestly don't see the use in it. I don't think anyone with the intention of steeling is actually going to peel off the plastic. If anything, they would probably slice it open with a knife.

So why put those damn things on it in the first place? ARRGHHHHH .... This is one of the few things that really pushes my buttons!

Yup, hate 'em too! I noticed the new ones have a small cut in them, so you can't get them off in one swipe unless your real careful. I don't mind the stickers themselves, as I hate how sticky they are!

I did not have a problem with my copy of Apocalypto. However...it did have the huge (2x2) sensor sticker on the inside of the case, which covers the scene selection. Removed it, but man did it leave a huge goo on the inside! The POTC had the same sensors but stuck on a white insert. Seeing that both are Disney/BVHE films, I guess there is no uniform procedure on this at the studio.

They put those there because people in countries like China will make fakes, or replace the real disks with fakes, then sell them as original BR.

That's my guess.

These things are horrible. I had the exact same experience getting the stupid things off when I got my copy of Apocalypto. On a better note, they came right off of both Pirates movies. That's kind of strange being they are all Disney titles with the same release date. Maybe Disney went the extra millimeter in making Pirates the perfect experience

Seriously though, as a general rule I end up with a ton of glue on my BD cases from the security stickers. It's way worse than getting them off of DVDs. I'm making a guess here that the stickers are not different, but the clear plastic on the blu-ray case might be different and bonds with the stickers more tightly.

Wouldn't ONE seal be enough just at the top where there is only the hard plastic? The rest is just a plain pain.

what disc had stickers on it? So far the only one that i purchased with stickers on the case was ABBA the movie (import) and it cam in a slightly thicker blu ray case... hard to replace those.

Unhappy Cleaning Blu-ray cases?

I have a question that isn't really related to blu-ray, but does anyone know how to get the glue off of cases from those stickers they put on them. I've tried water and soap and they don't do a very good job. Anyone know a better way?

There is stuff called "Goo Gone" that works well, but if you have WD-40, that will work great too... it will just leave a oily mess you have to clean up afterwards (make sure you remove the sleeve before trying this).

You can also use a very adhesive piece of tape. Stick the tape where the residue is, and then pull it off fast. Keep doing this (it may take a while) until all the residue is gone.

I just use clear tape. Stick it on and off a few times and it worked wonders for me.

3M adhesive remover. works well on dvd's or blu-ray cases. I always take the cover out first so it doesn't get on the paper.

Default Sticky stuff on BD case, after taking off those security seals

Today I got a few BD titles in. I opened one title (Donnie Brasco), it had 3 of those 'security seals'.

When I got rid of those seals, 2 of them went good. But the last one, on the bottom of the disc, it left some of it's sticky stuff on the BD disc. And that is annoying as hell.

Do you guys also have this problem with new BD cases?
And how can you get that sticky stuff off of it?

I'd say about 20% of my blu-ray cases are stuck together. So yes I've had the same problem, but obviously I never did anything about it.

Use a product called "Goo Gone" - it will remove the leftover glue.

I swear some of these companies must be working in factories with 150* temperatures. The stickers are practically melting to the cases. It sucks. Some of mine are great, but other times (Deja VU), it's horrible!

I hate when that happens. I now just cut the seals with a razorblade. You can try a little rubbing alcohol to remove the glue. Just remember to remove the inserts and disc so that they are not damaged.

3M has an adhesive remover that works well. Jsut make sure to remove the insert and blu-ray first. I think there is a thread on this for dvds/blu-ray somewhere as this has been asked many times.
