It is not a major night and day thing. Foam only costs a few dollars and the there are no risks.

Yes, I like the results alot better I also moved it away from the wall a little more. So far the wife hasn't said anything since the chair is a little further out as well I will have to run setup again since it's been moved.

As soon as I have a chance to run setup again. Maybe tomorrow morning if I get a chance.

A few questions...

Where do you buy the foam and is there a specific kind I'm looking for?

My kids have practically destroyed one of my Tempurpedic pillows and I was going to throw it out but I'm considering taking a segment of that and using it.

Also, I think I have the same carpet that erict has... it's a thin, black, outdoor carpet with ridges. But it seems terribly thick and hard to properly wrap my MDF with.

Where do you buy that carpet that I see in car trunks, or covering car audio subwoofers? Or is there a better carpet to use?

Sorry for all the questions--I think I just need help with the terminology when I go into places like Lowe's or Home Depot. I ask for carpet and they show me Berber.

I bought my carpet at Lowe's off the big rolls. They had some stuff on 3' wide rolls but I liked the smooth look the big rolls had (no ridges) . It's outdoor carpet with a rubber back.

You can buy carpet & foam from Reliable Hardware, The Foam Factory, or Parts Express.. Parts Express also sells Acoustic Foam.

OK, I popped in Transformers and I can tell a difference in the SVS performance and I think I can contribute that to moving it away from the wall further. I have to do further testing and pull out my SPL meter since I am just using my ears as a judgment. I still haven't run setup and need to do that as well but wanted to see if I heard a difference and I do. I like this little riser better then the other one I had there because it can handle the heavier weight of this sub better and is rock solid on a stability standpoint. I like the fact that I can also now change the height by simply changing out the legs. One thing I can't get rid of is all the stuff my wife has on the mantle which is 18' long and full of pictures and knick knacks that equals rattles on heavy bass scenes

I started a riser this past weekend. I have some nice pine sheets that I want to put a light stain on and inset behind the legs, to hide the foam. If I had some type of router, I'd just cut a track inside each leg and slide the sheets in.... maybe I'll figure something out.

I'm thinking a rubber mat on top instead of carpet. Acoustically speaking...... is there any reason why rubber wouldn't work as well as carpet?
