the 77, 80 and 83 could be released soon or in 20 years. whatever will make more money. either way, kids today don't care about jedi and sith, just generic marvel movie crap. your average Ironman movie will make more than Star Wars. older fans will never like a new Star Wars movie, even if its good. Star Wars is just another generic big budget action movie these days. after the next 3 the franchise is dead and in 20 years no one will even remember or care about the Star Wars movies |

And just a sidenote: I think they like the Marvel movies because as a whole, they're good movies... My opinion of course. ![]() |

Better yet, include them on actual videotape. With the old style clamshell case! |

You know...thinking about it, I think even having just the first no would have been alright. Just him deciding to do what he does, saying no just once, and then grabbing the Emperor would have been perfectly fine. There was no need to put the second NOOOOOO in there.

Yeah, I don't mind the low growl of the first Noooooo, but Vader sounds like he's going full retard with that second one, it's just too goofy. Add to that the rest of the utterly pointless 2011 additions to the film and that weird bit about halfway through on the BD where the horizontal resolution drops noticeably for a few minutes and I'd rather watch the DVD. Yes, really.

But I hate that Darth Vader "NOOOO" thing so much. The original version was so great-- there's no dialog and he's wearing a mask, and you can still see that the gears are twisting in his head over what he's seeing. And the moment where he grabs Palpatine is so emotional and epic. Adding the dialog completely ruins the moment. IMO, it ruined the entire finale of the entire saga. So I didn't buy it. I bought the prequel trilogy standalone set instead, because aside from the lackluster transfer for Episode I, is a good set for the prequel films. One a side note, I almost can't believe this, but I would rebuy Episode I AGAIN if they did a good film-like remaster of the original '99 cut of the movie. |

For the non-anamorphic DVDs ported from the Definitive edition LDs, they should have used the pre-THX clean up masters without the DVNR/smearing instead. The Japanese 1986 Special Collection edition Laserdiscs have them, and they look better in terms of colour depth and texture IMO, despite the print imperfections.
Here is a comparsen. TOP is Special Collection edition. BOTTOM is Definitive edition (which was used for the non-anamorphic DVDs as we know them). However it's best to download the actual comparsen clip since the YouTube version doesn't show off the comparsen as strongly due to compression. Scroll down and download the clip above in better quality from here - http://thestarwarstrilogy.com/starwa...ive-Collection Last edited by Blu-21; 11-23-2014 at 02:14 AM. |

While I agree George made a lot of bad decisions and I'll criticize the failings of his films as much as anyone, I can also see why he became so frustrated with the fans - this is a perfect example of complaining where there is virtually nothing to be complaining about. I don't necessarily believe they are going to release the OT, but if they do, I guarantee you that there will still be tons of complaints, just as the poster above who said that he wanted the special editions because that's what he saw growing up. Even though the OTs haven't been seen theatrically for well over 30 years, there will be people who will claim that some shots are different, or the color is different, or the optical are sloppy or whatever. And everyone will be both correct and incorrect because even the original 70mm version varied slightly from the 35mm version and so different people saw different things when they saw the OT (but how anyone can really remember what they saw is beyond me - unless they were someone who went to see the film 100 times in the original release). |

Very few Star Wars fans (even the really hardcore ones) are THAT anal about it. Basically, if Disney were to release the same versions that appeared as non-anamorphic bonus extras on the last DVD release (but in restored quality of course), that's what most people are looking for. |

![]() Many of the changes are revisionist and altering things that actually go against what his intention was at the time. Reading Rinzler's books on the making of the three films are fascinating because they go draft by draft of each film, and his intentions varied so wildly. These are official Lucasfilm books, based on the Lucasfilm archives, and the whole "grand story vision" that was maintained for years as fact is completely blown out of the water. Vader and Anakin were two different characters, well into the development of ESB, for example. That's one reason folks have a problem with all the changes, because Lucas kept changing his mind. For example, there was no technical nor money reason why Han shot first - it was a story choice. Years later, he re-thought that choice and changed it (multiple times now). Very little of the SE's are simple technical enhancements. One of the few examples is things like the windows on Cloud City. You'll find quite a few of us are pretty soft on those, I personally think they work and I like them (it never made sense that they'd have this beautiful city in the clouds and then all the inside space had a generic white corporate headquarters look). If that's all the SE's had been, there would have never been the kind of controversy that has been going on for nearly 20 years over them. It's the revisionism that is the problem folks have. Lucas was painstaking with these films, nothing appeared without his original approval, it's just that he continually changed his mind over the years, to such an extent that if you really look at various interviews from different periods over the last 30 years, he contradicts himself quite consistently to the extent of even changing what the films were "about". |
