3PO's annoying because he's supposed to be fussy and prissy, while Jar Jar is annoying because he's supposed to pander to children.

C3P0 is not annoying. Can you imagine the first 20 min of Star Wars if you replaced him with Jar Jar? Now that would be annoying.

He starts getting a little annoying in Jedi. But really, who doesn't.

And he's out and out terrible in Clones. But really, who isn't.

They shut down C3PO multiple times in Empire because of how annoying he is. He does nothing but comment and complain while on Chewbacca's back at the end of Empire.

Annoying other characters is fine. Annoying the audience is the no no.

I just got the first issue of the new Princess Leia comic today and it takes place during the medal ceremony at the end of the Star Wars (A New Hope doesn't exist) and Chewbacca still gets screwed over. Even the rebels are speciesists.

Team Adywan's Revisited fixes this...
As a kid, I was always bothered by the fact that Chewie never got one...

I actually would like to see a fan edit of that, but I'm kind of a masochist in that sense.

First of all, in a perfect world, all films would be upgraded to Blu-Ray (or be in the process of being upgraded to it), and to all future better formats, resolutions, etc.

There are many films that I'm waiting to see released on Blu-Ray, in some cases unsure of when/if they will be.

The problem is when the issues of culture and copyright conflict with each other.

...(excessive obfuscation of simple point redacted)...

He no longer owns SW (thank goodness), so hopefully we'll see some of these things rectified in the not too distant future. If it happens, it will be like waking up from a bad dream that so far has lasted almost two decades.

You could've saved yourself several hours and just said "because Star Wars is so much more popular than those movies", and still be making the exact same inadequate excuse for the completely unhinged mass-hysteria that is Chronic Obsessive Lucas Hatred Syndrome.

EDIT: Regarding the C3PO conversation: If they were making Star Wars for the first time right now, that character would not even get the greenlight, it would get shot down as a politically incorrect stereotype.

I wrote all of that to also make a larger point about my general feelings on films being preserved and made available in general. And as it apparently went over your head, I was agreeing with you to the extent that IMO all of the films that you listed, as well as many others should get released on Blu-Ray, and it's frustrating that the aren't. Congrats on completely missing that point.

And nothing was inadequate about the so-called "excuse," or more accurately, well thought out, on point reasoning.

Lucas did a lot of things (many of then unecessary) that upset a lot of people, and they reacted. It's like the saying goes, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

And really, the true extremists are few and far between (i.e. the people who say he 'raped' their childhood and actually seriously mean it, and aren't just saying it as a joke). Most who are angry have more of a love/hate relationship in how they feel about him rather than just full on hatred. They recognize that he gave us SW in the first place and his contributions to film in general, but they are upset about these other things as well. And since the supression of the OOT has yet to be rectified and is the easiest thing to correct (not much can be done about the prequels now - he had some good ideas, but they could have been executed A LOT better), it's still a sticking point and a source of frustration for many. And as such, it's the thing that still sticks out the most for many people when they hear his name.

Like it or not, it is what it is. At the end of the day, he put all of this into motion. It was a jag-off move on his part. You can say that it was his right as the creator of SW to make such a move, but regardless of what is or isn't his right, if he is going to do things that make him look like a jag-off, people will react accordingly. Maybe it doesn't bother you as much, and that's fine. But it bothers a lot of other people, and understandably so.

Could you argue the same thing about Jar-Jar also being a politically incorrect stereotype if The Phantom Meance were made for the first time right now too?

I didn't realize the depiction of English butlers was considered so offensive these days.

You guys are kidding, right?

People have been making 3P0 "gay robot" jokes for decades now. Hell, it's in the first season of Will & Grace:

Jack: Anyways, I'm collecting data to put on the Internet. I want the world to know the truth about C-3PO!
Will: Jack, C-3PO is not gay, he's British!
Jack: Oh, Artoo! Come back here! My circuits burn for you!
Grace: You need to find a better hobby than outing robots.

There is no Disney anymore. Harrison Ford crashed his plane into their headquarters and it is just a hole in the ground now.

Now that's taking killing off your character just a bit too far!
