Gawd, Jedi was one cringe after another for me.

The worst two by far were 'boba fett? where???' and 'can you tell Luke? Is that who you can tell?' but there was plenty of awful in that movie.

And that last one is a major reason why I wasn't too quick to pick up the Complete Saga box set, and still haven't. Waiting to see what, if anything, is announced this year first. If by the end of the year it still looks like the '11 versions are going to remain the only ones available on Blu-ray for the foreseeable future, well, I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet.

"Run away, far away!" is another corker. But there's plenty of goofy dialogue in the original Star Wars so I can tolerate it in Jedi and I always have, it's the changes made for the Blu-ray that I just cannae take, captain!

Ok, i have a question...possibly a dumb one but here goes...since Fox has distribution rights for episode 4, would that still stand if Disney either "remade" or released a newer special edition? Or would Disney be able to do as they wish with a version created by them?

They also seem to be going all-in with these like they have with Marvel. If they make these movies half as good as the Marvel ones, then they can do whatever the hell they want with the intro to the Star Wars films absent inserting Mickey Mouse into them.
Han shooting first is the original, the change is him shooting second.

Does that make you cringe as much or more than Padmé dying of a broken heart, Anakin's turn to the dark side being handled in the silliest and sloppiest way possible, Ewan McGregor's acting when he reacts to the recording of Anakin killing Jedi, and so on?

In my opinion, Return of the Jedi is still a really good movie, especially at the beginning and then the end. It's a bit meandering in the middle on Endor with the Ewoks, and you can see the seeds of what the prequels would be in it, but nothing in it IMO is as bad as the actual writing and acting in most of the prequel trilogy. The Phantom Menace was like Lucas took the very few worst parts of Return of the Jedi and ran with it.

It's hard to say.

On a relative scale I can say without reservation the cringe-worthy moments in Jedi were far more disappointing (following as they did Star Wars and Empire) than were the cringe-worthy moments in Sith.

But was turning Padme in some sappy Harlequin Romance character any lamer on some absolute scale than turning Han Solo into a Gilmore Girl?

I dunno.

I would say overall Sith is probably the better movie but they both have some pretty terrible moments.

While I disagree, I can see where you're coming from. I can see how Jedi could perhaps be more disappointing since it was a step down from the two excellent movies it followed, while Sith was an improvement over its predecessors, so that might make it more of a pleasant surprise than a letdown.

The original trilogy was too big a part of my childhood not to pick up first even with the changes. The prequels, well that's a different story. While I enjoyed moments from each film, I didn't love them enough to fill compelled to spend a butt load of money on the Saga when first released. I just recently picked up the Saga at my local pawn shop brand new for 30 bucks. After revisiting the prequels this past week, I must say that I rather enjoyed Phantom Menace and thought Revenge of the Sith was quite good actually. Hayden Christensen's acting was terrible in Attack of the Clones but the film itself was decent. Are they as good as the original trilogy? NO! But fun and better than I remembered them being. Plus, I enjoyed watching the 3 special features discs.

That IS a very good question! And I wish I had an answer, because that's too tangled a web for me to get my head around.

You forgot adding Hyden as Anakin's ghost. My biggest issue with the changes.

I seriously doubt Disney would make any further changes besides restoring the UOT, but as long as it's still mainly the original 1977 film Fox would own the rights. If it's a remake or reboot, Disney would own that but it still doesn't affect the original Ep IV. Bottom line: The only way Disney will ever fully own the original movie is if they make Fox an offer they can't refuse.

What if Disney digitally changes Luke into Mickey Mouse and Han Solo into Goofey, and Leia can be Daisy Duck?

Also, Obi-wan is now a floating Pluto head.

Considering Disney made the entire EU non-canon, it would not surprise me if they remade episodes 4 through 6 all over again with updated digital effects so that they match with episodes 1 through 3. I highly doubt Fox will ever sell the rights for any amount of money Disney could offer. They are in a unique position in that as long as they own the distribution rights, they get to reap the rewards as long as Disney keeps pushing Star Wars. People who are new to the saga will always want to go back and see the one that started it all. I bet that gets under Disney's skin like a rash that won't go away. :P

In theory that could happen; there's actually some merchandising out there depicting Mickey as Luke. In reality? Not a chance; making that canon would make Greedo shooting first, "Nooooooooo", and replacing Anakin look good.

That's a matter of opinion, but IMO Fox might be more inclined to sell once 2020 rolls around. For now they get all theatrical, BD & DVD revenue from the OT & PT, plus a share of TV & EST revenue via Ep IV. After 2020, they're limited to a narrow share from what will be by then a 9-film series (not counting spinoffs), probably derived mostly from licensing and/or coordinated distribution deals tied to Disney bundles; a buyout would look much better then.

What was changed with Artoo's bunker freak out?

Perhaps Disney could re-make I, II & III and make them match the original theatrical trilogy in special effects, story, etc. Then, just do VII, VIII & IV. Stop after IV. Then, we could have Lucas`s versions (of I, II & III) as extras on the end-all SW ultimate jumbo fan extravaganza edition that will get vaulted 6 months after its initial release; only to be re-released in a new improved version 10 years later.
