Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate the prequel movies. In fact, I think people hate on them because it is the cool thing to do. Yes, they are inferior to the OT, and yes, TPM is not a particulary great movie, but I would rather watch one of the prequels again over 80% of the movies out there.
Watching dog$hit with so much potential is ultimately MUCH more disturbing than watching crap that never had any potential at all.

Huh, not following this at all.

If it has potential that doesn't make it dog$hit.

I don't understand any of the hate for Jake Lloyd. He wasn't bad, and even if he was, who cares? It's not like like the movie was that great anyway. Not saying if the movie was spectacular there'd be reason to criticize him, but what's the point in complaining about spoiled milk in a bowl of rat turd cereal?

She had absolutely no interest in him at the beginning of the movie but is then suddenly in love with him in the second half. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. He used his powers to make her fall in love with him.

I don't think the Force can do that.

It's called "character development."

She became attracted to him because:

1. He's young, handsome and she finds him physically attractive

2. He's dangerous (powerful and headstrong)

3. She senses his deep connection to the Force

4. She respects that he's devoted his life to helping others.

5. Her relationship with him represents a form of rebellion that she's never encountered before (forbidden love)

So far, it looks like Star Wars 40th anniversary is about as disappointing as Star Trek's 50th.

Why do we keep doing this to ourselves.

"I have no interest in you, sorry."

*Spends time with character, grows to learn more of them, likes spending time with said character, even talks about how they can't be together mainly due to their duties*

Nah, force raped her into liking him. Lolok

Oh...and i'd like to add, I'll take a lovesick, awkward, and prideful Anakin over the annoyingly brash "I can fly-fight-and do anything-Rey. Or Finn "I'll run away then stay then run away then stay then run away" 2187. No complaints about Poe/BB8, outside of I'd rather the movies focus on them instead.

His name is Anakin. He's a real person!

Say what? Guess you missed the whole courting thing, with the beast thing and the rolling around frolic.

If I was going to "force" rape I know that is what I would do. Weird cow things are the roofie of a long time ago...

Lest ye all forget...
That dress she wore to dinner! or was it only after dinner...
She was manipulating Anakin the whole time.
She wore practically nothing in the night-time scenes.
She wore provocative clothing.
She did nothing but lead him on.
Eventually, she failed at her own game. She grew to love him by constantly flirting with him.

Or maybe she always loved him and just gave in to her feelings.

The taboo of getting with a jedi when he is supposed to be protecting you is something that I think stopped her.

That said, like you pointed out, she was also not exactly innocent with her participation. Anakin did not tricks. The moment he did, well you see how she had a mind of her own. Hell, even at the end of Attack of the Clones she did whatever she wanted by jumping out of the air vehicle and Anakin wanting to follow her.

She constantly put duty first, so I don't see how she was "forced" to do anything she didn't want to.

Which was an absolutely disastrous decision as it robbed the character of the sort of vitality and energy that he should've had. Someone just chided me for "wanting a different movie" but I don't give a shit, as the tragedy of Anakin would've played SO much better had he actually been a sympathetic character to begin with instead of a psycho-in-waiting. This is a key complaint about, say, Jack Nicholson's performance in The Shining - that he's unhinged already - but hell, Nicholson has more charisma in his little finger than Christensen has in his entire body so he pulls it off spectacularly. Point being, had Hayden not used that style of monotonous languor then even with the exact same lines it could've made for a more entertaining and involving portrayal of Anakin in the crucial middle film. I actually like him in Sith, he's loosened up a bit more although he's still guilty of lapsing into that dreary style from time to time.

Call it "chiding" (not following this example at all), but the facts are you want the movie to be what you want instead of accepting what the creator wants.

Even in the case of the Shining which is a classic and IMHO far better than the book, you have Kubrick who understands the book inside and out and brings his interpretation in.

Actually you make an excellent comparison. You see Jack's character in the movie has all the makings of a psycho much like Hayden's interpretation is textbook sociopath. Does that mean he is not sympathetic because he doesn't fit your ideals of what he should be?

I think he did his character well down to the backward way he cries over sand being irritating. Anakin as the murdering SOB to me would have seeds planted long before and yes from childhood he wouldn't just "ease" into evil.

His anger over the loss of his mother says it all to me and that change is brilliant. Does he show glimmer of crazy, absolutely which is pretty much what he was in his teenage years. I akin him to the Columbine boys. Lots of potential, but ultimately dangerous without proper monitoring.

Screw "sympathy", these kind of characters don't need such Hollywood BS. Darth Vader is a dark character, that is what he is bringing.

We look for an answer to why Anakin is bad, and the facts are that with lots of serial killers, there are early signs. Someone that slaughters children isn't going to ease into it...hell slaughtering sand people is about as much "ease" as you are going to get. Also, this answer BS is like the Halloween prequels. Nothing compared to the original, and in some ways it is better left untold.

Again, call it "chiding", but just like the Shining, you are seeing what you want instead of what the Director wanted. In the case of Kubrick and the cry babies that go after Nicholson starting out crazy...boo hoo hoo...just like with Carrie being an inferior book than the movie (WAAYYY INFERIOR) thank goodness we have what we have now because Jack just rocks. I actually take glee at his sarcasm in a disturbing kind of way. Unhinged from the beginning, absolutely, and Haydn backward and just plain cringe worthy in his unfitting character in the normal world...hell I like it more and more every time I see it and it reminds me that great art can and does get better with repeated viewing/listening.

Haydn is a fine actor (Life as a House anyone?) and what he brought at least I appreciate.

What I think is just plain cool is how I actually see him underneath the mask in Return of the Jedi and when Darth makes his decision, it is still from a sociopath kind of way. Not to help the rebels, but to help his son. The rest of the world...eh they can burn in his eyes (except "tell your sister...).

By the way, sorry if my candor offends the. I get that a lot. I can live with it, but know it isn't personal.

Which is why the Greedo beat down scene should have stayed IN The Phantom Menace!

Yes indeed, plug great advice there about tolerating opinions. I feel I learned something today in a Jerry Springer kinda way.
