My idea of the perfect box-set.
I like your style.

And it is my understanding that there's more film elements available then just the original negative. Google Robert A. Harris and Star Wars.
What will I not know?

The bonus DVD.

I make a point of telling the students that it is a rare opportunity for them to see the original theatrical cut.

Last semester 3/4 students in the class had never seen Star Wars.

This semester I am teaching World War I in my World History class and I tried to compare the concept of imperialism to the Empire in Star Wars and half of the class had no idea what I was talking about

I like your style. Reminds me of my film class. Star Wars is great cinematic history. Empire Strikes Back is interesting, but I feel redundent to the first for a historical point of view.

Well what you think and what the actual reasons why are different things.

Directing Episode IV almost gave him a heart attack from stress. For Empire & Jedi he paid out of pocket and pulled the strings like an executive producer/showrunner on a TV series.

For the prequels he did ask around but you can't find many people willing to work without union blessing.

Well he did drop out of the director's guild after the whole Empire Strikes Back credits fiasco and I'm sure that was still very fresh with the DGA in 99.

He did ask Ron Howard at one point. And he was like naww man. Willow was fun but Star Wars is you.

I've heard all that. What Lucas says and the actual reasons are different things.

So, you see how all of this is nonsense? Ron Howard directed Willow before 99, and I'm pretty sure he's a member of the DGA (like most of the directors Lucas has hired to do his work for him).

Star Wars

I don't remember how the credits were listed on Willow but apparently their biggest gripe were no credits at the begging of the movie.

What do you mean? By the time they made Willow, it didn't matter to the DGA how the credits appeared. What PeterTHX is saying is that Lucas just couldn't hire someone from the DGA, which is simply not true.

I was saying that the whole DGA drop out happened during the Making of Empire with the credits despute. And I haven't seen Willow in YEARS so I don't know how it opens. And maybe Ron couldn't get the DGAs blessing. Or just didn't want to make it. Who knows.

Well, I, as a director, simply can't fathom how you can ask somebody else to direct for you. My conclusion is that Lucas is a hack, plain and simple.

Your conclusion lacks maturity. Not everyone is the same or has the same interests. Get a group of directors together and you'll have a variety of approaches, ideas on what's most important, how they compartmentalize the work, how they delegate work, etc. If Lucas preferred the producer role more that hardly makes him a hack. Was Selznick a hack?

Did you know that when Howard the Duck flopped Lucas said they should've done the Ninja Turtles instead?

Say, what's more important than the basic grammar of the picture?

I think Lucas had left the STAR WARS universe too long. Perhaps if the prequels were filmed in the late 80's/early 90's instead - with the same behind-the-scenes talent involved, they may have been more successful?

Yeah, what cheapens them the most is the use of CGI and digital video.

The fact they have Yub Nub and Lepti Nek is a sign.

The recently released CD soundtracks of the OT are the same ones that came out in 1997, which is kind of stupid. But as you say, the original versions are on vinyl and iTunes so maybe it's a sign the original versions of the films might be released. I sure hope so!
