Where is there reshuffled editing in AOTC? Do you mean there are certain shots that get repeated?

No place to put it. No use for it. So I gave it to my in-laws (my father in law is in bad, bad shape, he's thrilled by it, the family thinks I'm a hero when the truth is I had no use for it, so I'm kinda a half-hero)...anyway. I told my in-laws about the blinking Ewoks. They thought I was bluffing. Put Jedi on via Vudu. Play the speeder bike Endor chase (or as I call it, "sucks to be you!" *Boom!*). Giant 60" Ewok appears. In-Laws start calling me out saying there's no blinking...and then....well. You know.

And then there's silence. Followed by, "Why?"

I think that's the question everyone's been asking about the tinkering since 1997. "Why?" Of all the things Lucas *could* have done to address technical aspects of the films...blinking Wicket?

Could be worse...I have it on good authority that Mr. Lucas seriously considered re-animating Yoda in Empire, but after the outrage from the fan base over other alterations, and the nose-dive Spielberg's E.T. took in 2002, he just stepped away and left that alone....but...he was thinking about it. Said there was 35% of Empire Strikes Back that he'd like to go back and "fix".

Yeah...that almost happened.

For me, my in-laws mystified reaction to blinking Wicket encapsulates what so many of us feel.

Why?
If Lucas had changed puppet Yoda to a CGI Yoda in Empire, that would have been the absolute worst change ever by far (imo).

Knowing Lucas he would have CGI Yoda do a song and dance number in Empire.

Well, can't say I didn't try to explain what happened. No need to be jerky about it.

Call it a scan, I was on your side and not out to prove anyone wrong, and my first comment on scans vs capture wasn't even referring to you, but rather the two different approaches.

However, you really should look at how it was done because a taped up camera was used to capture each frame as opposed to the conventional means of using a flat bed feeder (I forget what it is called).

*update* oops wrong poster. I thought you were someone else.

Though Mortoto, your complaints about a CAPTURE (not scan, big diffference) being brown is a fundamental misunderstanding of the issues that came with Kodachrome.

The magenta color was from the degradation of the dyes. So to reverse this, unfortunately it doesn't look perfect. However as someone that saw it in the theater and drive in, there was a not pure black look because of the fact that it was being projected.

Anyone with basic knowlege of this principal would get the limitations...kind if like LCD vs Plasma black.

Of course I am posting to someone that hates the grain and will just play deaf and calitalize a word to act childish so this whole post is likely on deaf ears. Again, can't say I didn't try.

Just gotta disagree about that mutant puppet in Episode I

However before people get my view confused again (common theme). I adore the Yoda on Empire and feel that puppet should be preserved forever.

As for AOTC and blinking Ewoks, I don't see the issue of the design. It wasn't a big deal to me, esoecially if he wanted blinking before, and he was modeling Yida after Empire (which was obvious).

Now break dancing Yoda, that sucked.

It isn't the fact that he tinkered with them. The issue is that he didn't fix the other errors first/at all.

Well he did kinda get lambasted no matter what he did. Sorry, one man can only do so much.

I think his movies are for the most part fantastic. To each his own.

ILM is more than just one man.
Second, I love 7 or the 8 movies.

It almost happened. Then ET 2.0 showed up and tanked at the box office, and Mr. Lucas said if he had known how angry his fans would be by the simple change to the Han v. Greedo scene, he never would have done it.

Then why didn't Lucas revert the scene back to having only Han shoot for the Blu-ray? It's hard for me to believe Lucas would feel regretful about a change due to fan outrage. Maybe he just changed his mind again and felt adding Greedo shooting was stupid, but didn't want to admit it. But if he is influenced by fan outrage all he had to do was release the original versions and nobody would care what changes he made to his special editions.

ILM works for Lucas. He directs that work force as founder of the company. There is no ifs ands or buts about who makes the creative decisions.

ILM has janitors I am sure...should I ponder what George has told them to do through indirect delegation?

Xxxxx

Ernest Rider ,

I am not doubting you read this or he said it, but I would like a source over this alleged regret about the Greedo scene.

Xxxxxx

Bobbyh64,

While I have been cussed at, called names and flat out ignored because of the theories, I think the Han shoots second fits better with the full saga (a reaction against a warning shot from Greedo), vs the ONLY Han shoots in the original Star Wars which serves the run and only fight when cornered (pre change of heart Solo at end) character which I feel is less heroic.

Lucas has said such and simply does not want to change that scene enough...if at all.

The facts are that he didn't revert it back because he was A. Happy enough...or B. Happy completely.

It is like "why he didn't film it that way before" summations...because he changed his mind and he likes playing with digital tools.

While there are crazy fans that want to believe it is George out to get them, I just cannot take those thoughts seriously. By the way, I a not saying you are one of these people. I truly respect your thoughts.

The blurays have their faults (either carried over from S.E. or stand alone), and I hate the Jango Fett Empire add in, way more than the Han shoots second, but to just keep complaining for the sake of it? Hell it isn't even worth me editing which I could easily do on all counts.

George may not ever have alowed the changes to be undone. Why not actually talk about the film and how the story can be served, or even talk about the old way they were?

Isn't life too short to try to curse the sky over what the creator of the series decided? I think it is.

I'm not buying that one iota. He has never shown remorse for anything he has ever done. If he felt that way he would have released the UOT to the fans. All he ever did was give us the middle finger with the wearing of the Han T Shirt.

If I had 'fans' who had treated me the way you treated Lucas i'm pretty sure i'd be showing you the middle finger every day. The ultimate middle finger was, of course, selling the franchise to Disney to make endless garbage sequels. If 'The Force Awakens' is the sequel you always wanted from Lucas all I can really do is point and laugh at the sheer idiocy.
