It's been so long since they last released the UOT I honestly don't think they will ever release them again. Maybe when certain people eventually pass away we might see something, but who knows.

It's been "maybe next year" for the past decade or more now, and with the 40th anniversary this year I would have thought if they were ever going to do it then this year would have been perfect.

Maybe they are waiting to release it with a 4K set? Maybe they will just be the old LD transfers like we had on the DVDs

I'm done holding my breath now anyway. If it comes then great, if not then it's £££ they are losing out on not me

I have a question in regards to A New Hope, when Han said he made the "castle run" in so many parsecs...what is that? I wonder if that will be part of the new movie.

It's the Kessel Run. According to Wookieepedia it's a hyperspace route used by smugglers. The name comes from a planet called Kessel that hosted spice mines. At the beginning of the movie when the Empire boarded the Tantive IV, C-3PO laments that he and R2D2 will be sent to the spice mines of Kessel.

Why did Jake Lloyd have to become the poster boy for bad child actors?

I didn't mind Jake Lloyd to be honest.

All things considered, I didn't mind Jake Lloyd. He was a much better child actor than Hayden Christensen was (good god, ever see that Goosebumps episode? Yeesh!), let alone Hayden as an adult

Keeping this civilized, I am just trying to understand. I liked Haydn in Life as a House, and I think he us truly haunting as a backward sociopathic kid that has difficulty with social interactions.

I guess in short...the sand scene and many of his mannerisms are misinterpreted as bad acting....at least as I see it.

For me, I can never see anyone else as Annakin....other than Jake Loyd. Call me nutty, but I liked the kid.

To be fair, I liked TPM but not much a fan of the other two prequels..and Hayden is a big reason for that. He just didn't cut it for me as an actor, but I didn't mind Jar Jar Binks..go figure

He was nominated for a golden globe and screen actors guild and it got a 7.5 on IMDB. Not bad at least. The other actors are good too.

P.S. I forgot about him in the Virgin Suicides. I remember liking him in that too.

He's good in Shattered Glass. Poor fellow gets a bad rap. Some actors need a director, he might be one of them.

Because his highest-profile role (by far) was directed by George Lucas, who is widely known for not being able to direct adult actors adequately let alone children? To wit:

That quote has been considered taken out of context. Lucas has diabetes and had a grandfather that died from it. He would be miserable and would often be sick sitting in a director's chair during long hours.

But gee for such a bad director, he kinda was responsible for one of the greatest and the most succcessful films of all time.

Of course lets consider for a moment that other than the 4 Star Wars movies, he did THX1138, and American Graffiti. And we are going to say from this he is a "bad" director???

Of course when he did some assisted directing on the Godfather that wasn't exactly nothing either.

The friendship between Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas goes back decades, to when they were both relatively unknown filmmakers in Northern California. Coppola served as executive producer on THX 1138, Lucas’ first film, and the year after it was finished, Lucas worked as an assistant on The Godfather. Lucas shot the footage of newspaper inserts that show major events during the scenes where the families go to the mattresses as well as the one above, which reveals to Michael the shooting of his father. But perhaps his biggest contribution to the film was a small suggestion he made to Coppola. After filming the scene in which Michael fends off would-be assassins while the don is in the hospital, Coppola realized he didn’t have extra shots to feature the sound of footsteps in the hallways. So Lucas suggested that he use the leftover shots of empty hallways just after the actors had left the frame. Lucas helped Coppola scour his original footage for those precious few seconds, which Coppola used in the film, greatly adding to the tension of an already white-knuckle scene.

A director's job is to delegate. Director's often have trouble with children. For a lot of movies, Jake is hardly anywhere near the worst of them. Matter of fact, considering the pressure and scope of anticipation, I think he did alright.

I think far too many director's get involved in what an actor or actress does, and if he has to tell them how to act then something is wrong. While people can put Lucas down for not feeling comfortable about over explaining...like how Harrison ford called his dialogue "shit", if you look at the final draft, again, the actor's job is to interpret, not be spoon fed.

On a side note, I don't exactly take Harrison Ford testimonials seriously considering he was drunk for most of American Graffiti, and Carrie Fisher's set drug use were pretty legendary.

Hamill deficiencies as an actor showed more in Empire to me. Facts are facts, you can talk all the crap you want on Lucas, but the man was a very successful director given that he truly didn't have much practice.

And what have any of us done that would come close??
