Does anyone know if the 2015 version of the Complete Saga fix any of these freezing/visual glitch issues?

I finally got The Complete Saga 2011 release a few weeks ago. The artwork and everything looks great. Excited to watch the bonus content.

Based on his post history, my guess is that it was "bad news" to him since George Lucas wasn't going to write/direct it.

The thing is that both JJ Abrams and George Lucas have directed the exact same number of good Star Wars movies (i.e. one each). The primary statistical difference is that Abrams is batting 1.000, while Lucas is batting .250 currently.

Best news I have ever heard. JJ was the best thing to happen to the franchise in 33 years.

I'd rather see a terrible but adventurous Lucas film than a solid but safe Abrams one

We need more self-aware discs that can skip their own bad scenes.

Yes, what counts as a "good movie" is purely subjective - but I can't say that I'm thrilled by this development. E7 was hands down the worst Star Wars movie of the lot, and that's including the Holiday Special and the two Ewok movies. I'll go see it because Star Wars is baked into my very DNA, but I'm far more interested in the side movies at this point.

I thought it was a boring, poorly fleshed out, remix Greatest Hits story. While E1-E3 had issues, at least it was trying something new and pushing the story forward. E7 seemed to smell of desperation, felt like "Remember the Star Wars you liked as a kid? This is more of that! Please like us again!"

Plus, I don't like Abrams as a director. I thought the Star Trek movies were dull to bad, thought Mission Impossible was a very weak movie, and I didnt like what I saw of Lost. The man is just not a good writer/director.

So yeah, this news has severely put a damper on my enthusiasm for E9 (and I suppose, by the nature of being stuck in-between, E8). I'll still go see them, but . . . .yeah. Not really pumped at the moment.

Oh, what's so great about adventurous? Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running...and screaming.

It was desperation. They made a cheap copy of what's been done before in order to please the vocal crowd. It's like fast food. Pleasure, not joy. With George, there was a story to tell. His story, wether people like it or not. With these new movies, the premiss is: "What do they want?" It's fans making their own licensed fan fiction.

It's not a movie sold as a product. It's a product sold as a movie.

There's a great quote from Gene Roddenberry on this very issue:

"I’ve never let Trekkers run Star Trek. Because Star Trek is an artistic endeavour that is best run by the professionals in. I will listen to Trekkers and Trekkies. I will listen to the guard at the gate and get many good ideas those ways. But I will never make a change in Star Trek because I think it will please the Trekkers. In that way lies prostitution. And you cannot be a good producer, writer or anything if the first thing you ask is ‘what do they want?’. That’s what prostitutes do. I write what I think they should have and what I think they’ll enjoy. And thank God I’ve been right ocasionally."

Emphasis mine.

By definition, it's not fanfiction, because it's an official part of the Star Wars saga. Fanfics can't do that.

Where is the line crossed in order for something to be "fanfiction"? Is every Star Trek tv show and movie made after Gene Roddenberry died fanfiction? Is every Muppet production made after Jim Henson died fanfiction? Are they exempt because they’re made by studios who hire professional writers who know how to spell check? Who is the real keyholder to what is canon and what isn’t? Are all reboots, sequels, remakes and comic book adaptations just fanfiction on a big budget?

I can think of a good example of the above actually in practice - the eighties era Doctor Who. For a while there, the show became more insular, catering to the hardcore fans over the general viewing public - and the show suffered for it. There were many other factors in play during that turbulent time (most notably the then head of the BBC out to kill the program stone dead), but it certainly didnt help any.

You can have inmates running the asylum - RTD and Steven Moffat were both huge fans back in the 70's - so it is possible to have fans make a show they love without running into problems. But you have to put the story first over what fan desires like to see. Star Wars didnt dodge that bullet.

And with George, he straight up knew that the back half of the saga was where the exciting bits of the story was. I remember magazine articles back in 79 or so, back when the 'Episode IV' first appeared in the scroll-up, when everyone asked him "Wait - where are episodes 1, 2 and 3?" - his response had always been that section of the saga was more political and expositional set-up, that if he had started with that end of the story, the movie would have been killed stone dead. So he picked the story up in the middle and went from there.
