And I wonder if the OT will include ALL versions, like how other films include multiple versions in collection sets. I hate the blu-ray changes to ANH and ROTJ, so for me I actually prefer the 2004 DVD cut.

On a side note, would be cool if for the PT they inserted some of the deleted scenes to make extended versions. Some of those deleted scenes were actually pretty good.
If I was a betting man, I'd put all my money on the 4K releases being the exact same versions as they are on the Blu-Ray set. Honestly the most interesting reissue for me is Episode I, because they mucked up the Blu-Ray transfer, and I think some of those extended scenes are SD only, meaning they may just do remaster of the original 1999 theatrical cut.

I'm also interested just out of curiosity to see how they handle Episode II. It's my understanding that not only is it a slightly-below 1080p final master, but it wouldn't benefit much from an HDR grade either because of the way it was shot. Still, if they go back to do a new transfer from the source, without the re-edits and teal regrading, it might still be a nice upgrade.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I predict that Disney's commitment to Home Video will be limited to new releases only once Disney+ is up and running. There will come a time when every Disney film, except Song of the South, will be on D+. Currently, their plan appears to be keep the newer material off of the streaming service for a particular window of time, likely tied to home video releases. Will it kill physical media? Probably not, but it will likely cause their home video strategy to morph into a niche market service. In that respect, there may be a future release of the OUT on 4K or 8K or hologram, but at a premium price. But, of course, I could be wrong.

So I got Episode 1-6 from Target with their B2G1 for around $80 mostly for the digital copies since I already have the 2011 set. I feel kind of stupid doing this. Anyone else who owned the previous set double dipped on these individual releases?

I didn't bite on that deal even though I really wanted these for the slip covers. I also have the previous set and a few years ago got the digital set via VUDU for $40 during one of their Holiday bundle deals. Figure it was best to wait until the UHD issued discs come out next year if that holds together.....

Default Question

Are the releases the special editions repackaged with new looking packaging while the disc is the same as the 2011 release?

I've thought about buying them for the digital copies and then selling the discs, but haven't actually done it. Since I plan to get Disney+, it seems kinda pointless to have the digital copies of the movies. Do I remember correctly, though, that there are additional extras that aren't in the Complete Saga set? And, if so, are they worth double-dipping for (or in my case, more like quadruple-dipping, as many times as I've re-bought these movies over the years)?

I’d really just wait and see what comes out on 4K next year...

I probably should wait as well since the UHD release will most likely include digital copies. I can still return them since the items haven’t arrived yet. However, in addition to the digital copies the other reason I got it was for individual box for each movie that the set just had the discs tucked inside sleeves. For around $13 each for digital and physical copy per disc I had a hard time resisting.

Wrong. The discs are the same just with new art. The logos are still there.

The discs are the same. I do believe that the digital versions that will be on Disney+ will remove the 20th Century Fox fanfare.

All we actually know is that the digital versions that have been for sale the last few years don't have the Fox logo, which makes sense since Fox didn't have digital distribution rights except for '77. Now that Disney owns 20th c. Fox, no one really knows what logos we'll see on future digital or disc versions of SW.

Exactly, save for the 2019 re-releases which do have the Fox logos intact (since they are the 2011 discs).

I would say the best way to do the future releases is to take out the 20th Century Fox Logos and Fanfare and just start off the movies in silence, kind of like The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Silence at the beginning of films is also an old way of film making too.

Question for those who bought the new individual releases, do you guys already have the 2011 set? If so, what was your reason to purchase the discs again?
