Yes, it has.....
http://www.framecompare.com/screensh...rison/DYLWWNNX Seems like Lucasfilm has confirmed that these are indeed the 2012 4K Lowry/Reliance Masters for the planned 3D Release supervised by Lucas. There are more screenshots out there now. Colors look very, very close to the 1997 SE. Couldnt be happier about that! I watched the Greedo scene a couple of times now, i still prefer the original cut but it works for me and is miles better than anything before IMO. |

About an hour into ANH and looks pretty good in regards to the color grading, gone is that weird color cast, and contrast seems improved as well. Some of the tweaks are good, although not wholly sold on the Han and Greedo shootout changes but it does coverup that crap Han dodge shot.
I do not have an Atmos setup so no comments there and currently only have a 1080P display so no idea how good the 4K looks. The 1080p stream is pretty good, I have 1 gig internet connection, may attempt the download option later if it works for PCs. I maybe misremembering but the various laser bolts look much better than the 04-11 transfers with possibly more detail than before such as with the Death Star destroying Alderaan. Highlights look good, whereas some of the fan GOUTs over do the contrast and blowout the highlights. So the image is not nearly as bright as some might prefer but it looks good. ESB supposedly has some tweaks and improvements, haven't seen it yet. After finishing ANH, I'll check out ESB for a bit then The Mandalorian if it is available. Also severed MonkeySack guy's arm is bloody. Luke's lightsaber has been corrected in the Falcon training scene. There is a shot where Vader approaches the camera in a Death Star hallway which is intercut with Obi-wan sneaking around and the "fixed" parts of Vader's suit stands out more; the chest plate replacement does not track correctly. In the Prison Block shootout two blaster bolt shots are still trimmed but one shows the poor guy take one to the chest. Can't remember if that has been the case for a while or not. The Battle of Yavin looks great, blaster bolts look well defined and explosions are rendered beautifully. If they did additional VFX tweaks to matte lines then job well done. Obi-wan's and Vader's DS lightsaber dual has fixed some of the lightsaber inconsistencies. Interestingly in this scene and throughout the film certain shots seem to lack just a little saturation. With the DS dual the sabers can look a little desaturated. Pretty sure ANH is based on the 2011 remix, which is a good thing. Just watched a bit of ESB and I maybe wrong but it sounds a little more dynamic, the top end is not as overly aggressive as past mixes, which in my opinion is a good thing. Still an aggressive mix but not as harsh. When I saw a live performance of ESB with an orchestra the movie playback was weird, kind of like just the LR channels were playing or such, and loud, top end sounded harsh. It did have the Fox Studio logo at the beginning and the color grading was like the DVD or BR. Color grading of ESB appears to, like ANH, have removed some of the odd choices in the prior transfers, Hoth is less overtly blue and the Luke and Wampa cave scene has more subtle blue hues and gradation which looks nice. The subtitles have magically disappeared so that's nice. Watching some of Episode IV-VI and I just don't know about these new transfers. They seem so dim and they don't really pop. Colors seem kind of lifeless and drab, almost like they're trying to make them look like modern MCU movies. I think the Episode I transfer looks the best of these new transfers. Might just take some getting used to for Episode IV-VI, but right now I prefer the 2011 transfers after comparing them. The 2011 Blu-ray's just look how they always have looked. The contrast and very warm color timing just feel off. Also, lossless audio absolutely spanks the DD+.. I'm watching these on a calibrated plasma too, for reference.
Mandalorian was pretty freaking sweet too! Last edited by CreasyBear; 11-12-2019 at 05:16 PM. |

All the films are Dolby Vision and HDR10 - depending on what device you're playing back on.
