They'd have to reboot the prequels too, because films directed by Spielberg, Jackson, and Cameron would make the prequels directed by Lucas look really bad.

I still remember viewing Harrison Ford's arm in the principal scene in awe! I never knew until that box set that he shot a scene for that.

But of course make sure that the originals are available.

.
EPIC FAIL! The originals are classic, no need for remake.

Sure they are classic, but would it hurt? They would be absolutely profitable.

The only rot-prone sets were from the first two pressings, both of which had the "rolling noise bars" problem. Image quietly fixed that problem on later pressings, and the discs without the noise bars were pressed at Mitsubishi after they got their shit together.

BTW, the "second" pressing happened almost immediately after the first, and was not a pressing based on demand, but rather because Empire was missing footage on side 3 in the first pressing.

My Pioneer LD-S9 is still running fine

Apparently you can still get them serviced in Japan.

One day I'll probably spent the real big bucks and get the most advanced player ever made...

There were dozens of non-Elite players with auto-turn, and there were even more Elite players without it. It's hardly a feature unique to, or even more common on Elite versus standard Pioneer players.

Would never happen because Star Wars probably has the most expansive Extended Universe outside of all combined Marvel/DC universes.

Where's our Indiana Jones?

Anyway, that's good news. With Lucas behind this, you know Star Wars just might end up being reference material. I can't wait to watch the battle scenes in HD! Particularly the Hoth battle and the fight between Luke and Vader.

Lightbulb The Ultimate Reference Edition?

I think these original Star Wars movies are too old to become blu-ray reference material. Soundtrack should be re-recorded and so on.
How about re-shoot and re-name original three movies? The Ultimate Reference Edition...?!!
IV (The New Hope Of Reference), V (Reference material Strikes Back) and IV (Return Of Reference Material).
Made with computer graphics like Avatar.

Really!?!...I thought that was common knowledge.

Ford was already such a major star by 1982 (with Raiders and Star Wars under his belt) that it received quite a bit of attention when the movie came out.

I think so too. Especially the sound is pretty dated. Maybe if reviewers approached it like a Criterion release where ancient Mono soundtracks can still get 5 for sound, and flickering picture still 4-4,5 for PQ.

The PT should be capable of delivering an awesome experience though!!

I don't think the magic of the OT can be recaptured again, so while I wouldn't mind them do a different take on the OT, with the same essence of story but more vast like the PT, but only if they were directed by George Lucas himself.

I don't like Peter Jackson, or the incredibly arrogant James Cameron, or the sappy Steven Spielberg touch any of these movies as suggested.

You have LOTR, Avatar, and E.T (I love E.T)for that.

If that's the way the movie looked and sounded when it came out, why shouldn't those releases be getting high ratings for it?

Don't bother, from what has been written in this thread I'd say these are the kind of people that would tear down historical landmarks and build skyscrapers. Completely bonkers, the whole lot.

Seriously, I hope this set contains the un-tampered original versions along with the "edited" versions from 1997.... so it can make ALL the SW fans happy.

You guys doubting these will be reference material are crazy, straight up crazy! I'm guessing you haven't seen these in HD then on tv? I have and they look amazing. I mean good grief, the freakin dvd's upconverted look great and the sound is awesome. There is NO doubt these will be reference pq and aq.

For God's sake, where did most of you come from, and what the hell are you taking about?

I wouldn't say I'm an 'Old-Timer', no not just yet; having been only 9 when the first films came out but they are classics! They are never going to be reference material, not in the same way that something filmed this year, could look. They will look how we remember them, if you didn't have them you wouldn't have half of the films you have now. Christ, the Spielberg, Cameron references: what are you talking about? Do you really think that those guys would even dare touch the material... just cus most of you would start comparing it to the original stuff, it's a no win situation!

Most of you need to learn to love movies for what they were/are and stop jerking yourselves off over super sharp transfers of films that WILL NOT STAND THE TEST OF TIME!

I was 6 when E.T. came out, so I don't remember the media attention as I was not watching a lot of news stuff like P.M. Magazine type shows.

Wow! That's a positive attitude.

I love old-fashioned stuff, also classic movies and music, but I think it's a different point of view when you give a film like Casablana a 5/5 for PQ and AQ (Highdefdigest.com), or a film like Iron Man.

From a certain point of view, yes, Casablanca has never looked or sounded better, but is it a reference BD? Surely not.

Btw., I have Casablanca on BD, because I love the film!

That's all I was trying to say.

I am more than willing to accept the OT the way it is, I am just saying that it won't be reference V/A like Sunshine, simply because it is so much older, the sound is very dated, but still quite good.....

Overall, I think it's going to be wonderful, and clearly the best presentation we will ever have seen at home, but I do hope that they do everything they can to create flawless HD masters, because the article I read sounds kind of scary.
