I hate that. The original visage of Anakin looked proud and happy for his son. Hayden looks like he's plotting to slip a knife in the kid's back the second Luke turns around.

The shots of Hayden were actually just test shots before prduction began on Episode III; so if anything, those shots of him weren't even made for the 2004 DVD of Return of the Jedi.

All the more reason it should never have been put in there.

Personally, I don't mind Hayden being there, but I can understand why people don't like Sebastian Shaw being replaced with him.

Anakin seems to be a cursed role. Neither Jake Lloyd or Hayden Christensen could make him a viable protagonist that the audience would root for. And then feel betrayed by when he fell to the darkside of the force.

Unless...

Perhaps Lucas intentionally picked two actors that fans would hate so that when he fell we would cheer the good and jeer the dark. Now when you watch all six films you end up hating every scene with the Empire because of how much of an emo wuss Darth Vader really is.

Bravo Lucas. You made us truly hate cinemas greatest villain.

Except it didn't work on me, I don't hate any of the actors who have been Darth Vader or Anakin Skywalker.

I actually thought Hayden gave a very good performance in Episode III, compared with Episode II, but I would guess that's because he had much more to do, and so it was easier for him as an actor. In Episode II, he seemed to be in a very uncomportable role because although he could give signs of him heading towards the Dark Side, he wasn't able to give it the full performance.

There's no fighting the rose-collared goggles of nostalgia.

Coure, I saw the original trilogy as a kid (remember being lined around the building for both TESB and RotJ) and don't see them as substantively superior to the prequels. It's all rather cheesy popcorn schtick that purposely emulates the serials Lucas loved as a kid.

Only the original 3 films and only if they are the originals not the upgraded special effect bullshit.

Phantom Menace ruled, all you haters should just learn to live with it. Every story has to have a beginning. The political subtext of the ongoing coup, IMO is some of the best writing in the saga. But then that's my opinion, obviously some of you don't like it.

But everyone should be able to agree that Darth Maul ruled, only complaint I have is he should of had more screen time. I would of liked to see him dominate some more Jedi.

Unfortunately most of the Jedi have been wiped out by the time Episode I starts, besides he lost to a Padawan learner, doubt he would've dominated a powerful Master like Yoda or Windu.

His death negates whatever "awesome points" he earned during his brief time in the Saga.

I'll never get the people who get upset when a character they like doesn't win a fight, doesn't do it more effeciently etc. In literally every case where you see this hilarious fanboy whining the structure of the story (in this case, the climax) pretty much requires these things to happen. You see it a lot with Alien vs. Predator nerds too, they just don't realize that those movies would be even worse if the Predators just ran around shooting Aliens without breaking a sweat.

Darth Maul is a fictional character and it doesn't matter how awesome or cool you think he is, he's going to die at the end of the movie regardless.

I don't care that he died as a result of the purpose of the story. It is the way he is killed that makes him a character that doesn't deserve the fanboy love he gets.

Neither do I. I feel so sorry for Jake Loyd. He has had to hear the crap from those morons for over 10 years now. Poor kid indeed!
I think he did great! His innocence was lovely, but there was a touch of anger in him, which worked brilliantly for me.

I thought he was excellent in both. Episode II is supposed to feel a awkward.

Bring on the Blu-rays already!!!!

I definitely would have rather Obi-wan let himself drop (homage to "let go, Luke") and Maul survived all 3 Prequels. Maul would have largely replaced Dooku in AOTC and ROTS.
