EON Productions was able to afford remastering the twenty James Bond films five years ago, but poor LucasFilm can't remaster three films because it's "too expensive"? Bullshit. The negatives were already thoroughly cleaned up back in the mid-90s before they mastered the Special Editions so they already have a head start to remaster the original theatrical versions. I was considering getting the blu-ray but now that quote from him has been laid out, no thanks. I'm sure the deleted scenes are nifty, but I'll pass.

With other blu-ray entries like Blade Runner, the Alien films and Apocalypse Now ALL featuring theatrical and special editions on the format, Lucas comes off like a chump. Come on George, just cough it.

I can't think of a good reason to buy this set. I don't like the prequels or the altered versions.

HD can really enhance the experience of watching a movie of course, but ultimately it's the best version that counts. Therefore, I will stick with my crappy non-anamorphic versions of the original trilogy.

My issues with the altered versions is that the added/altered material sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, the color really undermines what made Star Wars great in the first place. The re-coloring makes everything look like an oversaturated wonderland. It forsakes the soft natural look of the originals.

Does Lucas really expect us to believe that restoring the originals would just be too expensive? ... We're talking about Star Wars, right? The biggest franchise ever?

what's he going to do put Jar Jar into them MORE?
They are for sure changing the dreadful yoda puppet in TPM with a cgi one to match the one in AOTC and ROTS. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes other changes as well.

If Lucas released anamorphic transfers that looked semi-decent, I would be happy.

I think Lucas is afraid that if he releases both versions in equal quality, the altered versions could become the definitive versions for many people.

no unaltered OT = no buy. 100% serious. I'll continue to watch the Laserdisc versions whenever I feel the urge to watch the OT. I'm sure the Blu's will look and sound like reference material. Don't care. I want what I want. No compromises.

Then how do you account for the repeat-viewer ticket sales, DVD sales, and continued success on cable television?

Sorry, but there are in fact many millions of people who enjoy new Star Wars.

I'm watching episode IV, will watch as much of V as I can before bed and record VI to watch after work tomorrow. I may watch Spaceballs in the near future as well.

I've been debating this as well. Part of me just wants to get the entire collection for the sake of having the entire collection and then part of me only wants to get Episodes 3,4,5. I mean I already have them on DVD so I don't feel as obligated to get all of the on blu.

I do hope that they release them seperately soon after... saving up for a boxed-set could be a little cost-prohibitive for me, I'd rather buy them one-at-a-time, as I can afford them. They have to release them separately, the cost of a six-film set is bound to stifle the market and hurt sales.

That's why it's coming out around Christmas next year, blu-rays will be a bit less by then plus retailers will compete to have the best price. $100 is not out of the question, really.

$100 is still a lot to spend on movies in one day, for many people. That's a whole month's movie-budget for me, in a good month, and I prefer to get something each weekend. I will definitely have to plan around it to make it work.

It's a lot of money for me too but they are 6 of my favourite movies of all-time so about $17 a movie works for me.

All 6 for me and I honestly love the prequels and could care less what some "fans" think of them. I am hoping though for special editions of the prequels and for some missing scenes from Episodes 1-3 to be in this box set. I am also really hoping for some OT deleted scenes. This is going to be a day one purchase for me, Star Wars coming on blu-ray might finally be the KO punch needed to knock DVD out and have blu ray be the standard for the people when watching movies at home I think DVD will be a distant second now!

I don't think it's enough. It will take more than the best possible catalog release ever to dislodge the more popular format. We have a lot of really good catalogs coming out this year and next, that should get blu-ray up to 40%. I actually think at some point studios will have to do what they did with VHS, or at least to some degree, phase out DVD.

Honestly, I've NEVER seen any of the movies but I always played the games on N64 which I loved. So I'll probably end up blind buying all 6.

Day...1...purchase. I can't wait to add all 6 to my collection. Also, I think Revenge of the Sith is one of the best in the series. I just think it's stained by Episodes I and II. I don't mind II as well.

My ranking order:

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

You won't be disappointed.

Well with 2 of the 6 for sure (Hope/Empire).

I enjoy all six to varying degrees.
