No,really, after all this Star Wars talk on here the last few days, I've been watching all the dvd's in order(about to watch ROTJ), and they really don't look that bad upconverted. I think they would almost have to try to make this turn out bad! I've heard that they have been working on the HD SW for four or five years.
The films (I, IV, V, VI) were shot on 35mm, I think it's overkill to scan to 8k resolution. 4k should be sufficient enough.

That seems to make sense: 70mm@8k, 35mm@4K.
I know that II & III were shot digitally; do you know the resolution on those?

Sweet. It's already at the top of the lists... Hopefully it stays there for a long time.

I'm relieved by the announcement of this release. So many people saying how not to expect Star Wars for years and years because Lucas is a jerk/hack/stubborn/etc.

What would be cool is the documentary that came with the trilogy on DVD included in the BD sets.

I have a feeling that every extra on DVD will be on BD+a documentary about the BD process. If not, just hold onto your DVD's for the xtras

With 3 bonus blu-rays in the complete saga, there should be an absolute glut of extras!

I would rather watch the prequels any day of the weeks then a lot of other crap movies Hollywood as been making the last 10 years.

Most of those who hate the prequels just built up too much, way too much expectation in their minds about them. They probably spend all of their time from 1997 to 1999 going "THESE WILL BE THE GREATEST MOVIES OF ALL TIMES LUCAS IS A GOD !!!" and dream of them 24/7 none stop. They quickly put up these movies to a level that they just could never achieved. In the end they were disapointed and decide to hate Lucas. Then the other part of it is many of them also hate the Special Editions and from that moment on hate everything about Lucas. For those people no matter how incredible the prequels would have been, they would have hated them in any case.
Agreed 100%!

I don't hate the prequals, but I did pop in Phantom Menace today and turned it off about 70% in... Pretty boring and not a lot of replay value. However, I can watch episodes III-VI anytime (over and over)!

IMO it will be interesting to see how well HDTV's and Blu-ray Players sell when the saga is out. there could be a lot of "newbies" here at the forum.

Now do we as star wars fans wish the original theatrical cuts where in the blu-ray set yes their a part of film history. But no matter which version of the films special edition or both the special editions and the original theatrical cuts I think everyone will enjoy this blu-ray box set. And I hope some of the the color issues that where on the 2004 OT dvd's and the sound problems that where on the 2004 dvd release of Episode 4 A New Hope are addressed for the blu-ray release.

It's been a long time since I checked the Statistics page... Can't believe TDK is STILL #1 title! When I joined up here, everyone couldn't stop talking about it. But for it to still be at the top today is remarkable. It's one of the best Blu-rays, imo.

But TDK doesn't stand a chance when SW comes out.

TDK is not #1, Avatar is, just combine the CE statistics with the normal release statistics and TDK gets smoked rather badly.

Well the Ep1 scenes of Yoda were redone as CGI years ago, after the DVD release, so thats got to surface sometime?

That was a test. It wasn't "officially" done.

The test was to see if they could do a CG Yoda for Episode II. If they want to really do it right they'll use the CG model they made for Episode III.

They were re-released on 70mm (the OT).

Sort of a non-sequitur to your point, I know (so I apologize in advance)... but if George really wanted to "do it right," he should have cut out all the unnecessary Jar Jar/Gungan stuff at the script stage (including the boring land battle at the end) and used C-3PO in place of Jar Jar from Tatooine onward. In my opinion, that would have resulted in a cleaner, less cringe-inducing script. Also, he should have let Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz (or Kasdan if he was available) have a crack at the dialogue.

It would have brought the film up to, say, Episode II quality... which admittedly, isn't saying much.

I've watched a bit of the prequels lately and it amazes me how slow some of the characters enter a scene, or how undynamic some of the cinematography is when there aren't all CGI creations on the screen.

Two of my favourite pieces of filmmaking are in The Terminator and Back to the Future. The first from The Terminator is when Kyle explains the plot and his origins to Sarah during a hectic carchase it gives the story such vibrancy. The second is when Marty goes over to the Doc's house in the beginning of BttF we learn all about the terrorists, the plutonium and Doc's histroy through the radio and items scattered about, without someone sitting there and explaining it to us.

The OT has such an energy and emergency to the whole thing, it was Guerrilla Filmaking at it's finest something Lucas was a master of. The PT while shot quickly doesn't quite have that.

No it wasn't. Guerilla Filmaking is usually when something is shot on Location very quickly, without permission and without warning (the first Terminator has a number of shots filmed like this).

How can the OT be described as Guerilla Filmaking (at it's finest)?

Actually the CGI Yoda from TPM that appears on the ROTS extras was done as a test for ROTS. The test they did for AOTC were scenes taken from TESB.
Maybe I miss-read it, but I thought Rob Coleman confirmed that the puppet from TPM is now completely gone....
