I am in agreement with you. I really start to dislike it the more I see it. It makes Attack of the Clones look like fn Citizen Kane....

I look at the Phantom Menace and cannot help but to ask questions like:

"If Obi Wan and Qui Gon can run at warp speed to escape the Destoryer Droids in the beginning of the movie, why can't Obi Wan run at that same speed at the end to get past those laser walls at the end? Wore the wrong shoes that day?"

"Did Lucas really write the words "Yippie!" and "Poo-Doo!" on the script page?"

"Did they really just copy the ending of Independence Day? Did that just happen? Only things missing were Jeff Goldblum to chew some space bubble gum and his trusty Apple Laptop..." (Ship flies into hanger of the control ship, awe gee shucks, we fire a missle that blows up mothership rendering the invasion fleet helpless on the planet below...)

"Why do the battle droid have to talk? They are turned on wirelessly from space, and you would think since they are operated from a centeral HUB that they would get their orders that way (sorta like the Terminators). But, um, your under arrest!"

"Darth Maul. Cut in half and unable to defend himself against the slowest overhead back flip this side of Crouching Tiger... I mean seriously, Maul is starring RIGHT at him and Obi Wan is a good ten feet below him. You are telling me Maul was fast enough to defend himself against two attacking Jedi, but maybe he has eyes like a T-Rex and if you are slow enough it can't see you..."

Anyway, I could go on and on, but I don't want to annoy anyone who is big fan. Its a fun movie, but the more I see it, the more I cannot turn my brain off.

I love The Phantom Menace I really do. But I started watching it last night and Jar Jar stepped in the Bantha crap and it made a loud unrealistic squelching noise.... like you could hear him step in crap from outerspace unrealistic. And that was that. Game Over Man, Game Over. Sometimes in my mind I rewrite TPM as I try to go to sleep.... And Jar Jar stepping in crap doesn't happen.

Line of the day right there!

Hopefully someone copies that and uses it as a sig.

All can be answered by the following: Lazy writing.

Lucas spent 99.99999% of his time on the technical aspects of Ep. 1 - 3, and 0.00001% of his time writing the scripts or directing the actors. Everything is on the screen because it was ill-conceived by a lazy business man with no regard for the quality of storytelling, so there are hundreds of lazy plot devices and moronic decisions made in each film. Thus, the prequel trilogy being complete non-sensical garbage that I will never consider canon.

It is certainly interesting how some of the plot points in the OT are undermined by the PT, including Leia's remembering her mother, Ben telling Luke that his father wanted him to have the lightsaber but Owen wouldn't allow it, etc. Lucas could've very easily made those non-issues by having the twins be kids, and not born, in ROTS.

I also can't stand how shiny, new, and advanced everything is in the PT, then it's old and clunky 20 years later. That's more of an aesthetic complaint, though, I know.

If you watch Return of the Jedi, Jabba also says "Poo-Doo" when he tells Han "You may have been a good smuggler, but now you're bantha fodder."

And, ironically, Jabba's a much better actor than Jake Lloyd.

So Jar Jar steps off the plane and becomes fluent in Huttese? When the slug says it, its cool.

including Leia's remembering her mother
Princess Leia: Luke, what's wrong?
Luke: Leia, do you remember your mother? Your real mother?
Princess Leia: Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.
Luke: What do you remember?
Princess Leia: Just... images really. Feelings.
Luke: Tell me.
Princess Leia: She was... very beautiful. Kind, but sad. Why are you asking me this?
Luke: I have no memory of my mother. I never knew her.

Yoda: Through the force, things you will see. Other places. The future, the past, old friends long gone.

Also note that Leia's eyes are wide open when she's born. And she's very alert when shown to Padme. Where as Luke's eyes are closed and he's not alert. Also, Leia certainly seemed to have a natural affinity for the force... such as being able to resist the mind probes during her torture.

Well, wouldn't Anakin want to pass such a thing onto his son.... if Obi-Wan's "Certain Point Of View" facts actually accurate. And is your main complaint that we didn't see Owen not wanting Luke to have the Saber? Why is that even important. We've already seen Owen's feelings about Obi-Wan and the worry that Luke is much like his father. Plus in the prequels, we see why Owen might have issues with the Jedi.

It's not an issue regardless. Not when you have established canon that explains it.

But it makes since in the Universe, given the fact that more pride and artistry were put into things back in the day. And once the Empire takes power, everything becomes industrialized and things are just churned out without any thought given the beauty of the design. Happened in real life also. Look at the art deco period, where even coffee pots had a flowing arty design. Or even cars, how they went from elaborate and artistic designs to designs that look like a metal box that's nothing more than stamped out on an assembly line with no love.

Jar Jar does speak Basic, not just Gunganese. So Poo-Doo may just have become a standard term.

I thought Bantha Fodder was the Basic translation?

I'm not sure if this has been posted before but its great fun and Armstrong's voice is sometimes uncanny.

The Solo Adventures

And thank you O V N for the kind words regarding my post. Much appreciated!

I like TPM more than AOTC. I think it has a better story.

You're considered fluent when you know a swear word or two? I'm "fluent" in a bunch of languages.

Eh, that was the English subtitle. Very different, especially if you want that PG rating.

I gotta agree with that one.

Bad plot over site right after the Falcon's hyperdrive not working (3PO- "It's impossible to go to light speed") but somehow is still capable of interstellar space travel.

And, it takes a fleet of SD's to try and catch one Falcon...imagine if the Rebellion had a fleet of Falcons. Just dumb!

Good points there, but regarding the SDs getting creamed by the asteriods, I just chalked that up to them being hit several other times by them already while recklessly chasing the Falcon into the field due to their Captain's fear of Vader's acceptance of apologies.

Yea, I remember getting very board while watching the 'pod race' in the theater, and just wishing that it would finally end. And that theater had a fantastic A/V setup.

Man...when I was watching that over the weekend, I was thinking- Why the hell Maul was just standing there staring at him? Swing at him you FREAK of nature!!!!!

Yea, I do not really consider the PQs canon either, but I when ahead and ordered 'The Complete Saga' anyway hoping that the BD HD will change my mind somewhat, so we will see.

I remember back during opening day when those goofy lines in Jabba's palace started showing up at the beginning of the film that we were in VERY BIG trouble.

My four year old saw it in a theater the week it was released and hated the bike chases and really hated the 'hey, I know! this time we'll run through trenches inside the Death Star! nonsense...

He thought they were trite and derivative.

And whatever you do, don't get him started on Ewoks.

He's a sweet kid but he's got a real mean streak sometimes.
