Well an explanation I read for the whole armor thing I read once was that the Empire got cheap on it´s normal arsenal and used their budget primarily for the larger weapons(Stormtroopers and cheaply built Tie Fighters meant they were expendable but a large budget for Star Destroyers and a Death Star). You could argue that this is also why the Death Star's defense was aimed against a large frontal attack by capital ships and didn't really provide a good defense against small and fast starfighters.
I like your explanation about the Empire going a bit cheaper and there for skipping on the camo details. Good call! I also agree seeing the Empire taking over planets at the end of ROTS would have been a GREAT contrast to the new ending of Jedi.

The Republic would never negotiate with terrorists. It's a shame they didn't show Grievous to his full Clone Wars potential. He took out a half dozen Jedi with ease.

Perhaps the battle at Naboo was all at full Force Speed thats why Obi couldn't run through the shield he was already at top speed. Lucas slowed the film down for normal viewers to enjoy. In reality the entire fight took about 3.12 seconds....

Yeah, but how different will 1440p from 1080p when you're sitting 8 feet or more away from your television?

This is why I find it fascinating on what the industry will come up next to sell their films to consumers once again in the near future.

It can't be Ultra HD because I just don't think it's going to be that much of a difference to people from 1080p to 1440p.

The enthusiasts will be able to tell but are people really going to buy certain films in their library now that are on Blu-Ray (after they've upgraded from DVD) on a whole new format in the near future just for a little bit more resolution?

Can't speak for everyone, but my answer is "Hell" to the "No".

On topic, another month is about to roll off the calendar..I would think by June/July word is going to start leaking out about this release. Hopefully there is a presentation at Comic-Con as well.

I am in no way endorsing 1440p, just was saying that the human eye can process more information that 1080p is all. I won't be buying movies on another format after blu ray to be honest. For me, I don't think the difference is going to be worth it (of course I am certain some will call that crazy, but whatever).

You have said this before, and was shown evidence then that yes the human eye can perceive beyond 1080p. On a 32" screen you wouldn't be able to, but on a 100" screen front projector screen you would. Now you may never own a 100" screen, but that doesn't make the technology irrelevant so at some point a higher resolution format will be released.

Right, but successful technology depends on the demand, and your average person sure as hell isn't going to have a 100 inch screen any time soon. However, with the rise of HDTVs, Blu-ray was a logical and inevitable progression.

Bottom line, Star Wars will (hopefully) look amazing, and I don't give a damn about anything over 1080p.

To each is own, but if the technology is there and we get a higher resolution format at the right price I will continue to upgrade. Home Video is what, 40 years old at most? Who knows where home video could prgress. In 20 years 1080p HD could be an antiquated idea. Especially when you factor in the rate at which technology advances year to year. Each year technology doubles in power, and decreases in size by half. 1080p won't be the end of the line for me.

I have never even gone above 720p and I'm happy... But I've been planning on upgrading to 1080p by the time SW is released.

It's hard to say where technology will be as far as resolution goes, but the average consumer's TV screen seems to be growing larger especially with the rise of the flat panel. I can't imagine wanting more than HD 1080p unless the picture looks even more detailed than before. If PQ and AQ isn't improved I would consider it a waste of money.

I have a 1080p 3D DLP 60-inch screen from mitsubishi and it looks great. And I got it for blu-rays and I wanted a better tv. The star wars films will look good in 1080p I know the older films where shot on older film stock that is for sure and the prequels at least the last episodes 2 and 3 where shot in 1080p. I have heard some people say the films won't look good on blu-ray even in 1080p . I disagree with that the films will look good on blu-ray. We can't judge the blu-ray box set until the final product is released. The Star Wars Saga will be the best blu-ray box set ever and it will look and sound great.

The films have the ability to look better than the HD shot Episodes II and III, it just depends on where they source them from, if they come from the DVD masters (which by some accounts is the only available versions they have or are willing to use) then they should look equally as good as the 2K prequels. So as far as Star Wars goes the Blu-rays will be the best they will ever look. My only concern is if they use the 2004 masters then we may have lost some detail in the blacks etc which can't be replaced unless they re-master the whole trilogy over again which by some accounts they can't or aren't willing to do so.

They should look and sound amazing no doubts about it.

That would be incredibly stupid not to make copies for history's sake.

I hope he just said to get people to lay off the SE's.

Logic would suggest that they would have restored the originals then scanned them, not restored them, add the SE extras and then scanned them.

Spock don't live on the Skywalker Ranch though....

I don't know if yuour referring to outside this thread, but no one in this thread has said that. If they have then they are delusional. I am sure some will complain if these have the same problems as the 2004 set, though. Such as lightsabers, crushed blacks, saturation problems, and reversed rear audio on ANH. I, myself, will be upset if these problems aren't addressed, but I'm still gonna own them. They will still be gorgeous to look at.

i agree completely that technology is always advancing and technology gets replaced faster than anything else in the world, but just because technology advances from year to year doesn't mean our vision and what we can see does as well.

and actually as the years go by ...it gets worse!

My $300 blu-ray player does a great job of upconverting 480i to 1080p, so although it sucks that E.II & III were filmed at 1080p, I would think that there is some ultra high quality equipment that could upconvert them at a much better quality than what most of us would think.
I know, it sucks to have to do something like that, I'm just saying, if GL busted out his fat wallet, I'm sure that there's something that could be done.
