I guess it's just because preserving a films Original Aspect Ratio, whatever it may be for any particular film, is pretty much agiven these days after years of films having been brutally cropped to bits to fit a TV. If you don't want to make people angry, just check the aspect ratio on IMDb. If its 1.78:1 or 1.85:1 it'll basically fill up the screen, if its 1.33:1 it'll have black bars on the sides, if its 2.35:1 or thereabouts (which MANY major hollywood films are, including SW) it'll have black bars at the top and bottom. Adjust your expectations accordingly and consider the fact that films are made to be projected, not fit a standard TV size.

Also you might want to stop calling it 'Full screen' as that historically has referred to films in 4:3 (ie the roughly square shape of old TVs). If you mean fitting a widescreen TV you should probably refer to it as 16:9 or 1.78:1.

You are probably right, and even then, it won't be too much more than we already know. I do think they will have SOMETHING to report as to what sound (5.1 or otherwise) that will be present on the discs. Probably save most of the big stuff (i.e. special features) for a Comic Convention or something.

However, I really don't think they will directly address the color issues of the OT nor will they say much about the HORRIBLE job they did on TPM. They might do so indirectly by showing screen caps of before and after but will claim the cleaned up picture/color is because of the blu ray tech and nothing to do with shoddy previous work.

Either way, should be an interesting read but anything from that magazine is kinda suspect because its just a promotional item.

This thread is to discuss the Blu-Ray releases. For discussion of the films, use the proper thread in the Movies section....

They never said they wouldn't, but I think it is unlikely. I don't think we will be seeing a ton of exclusives attached to any of the Star Wars sets to be honest. IF they do steelbooks it will probably be for the individual releases a bit farther down the road.

With the Realization that Star Wars is in 2:35:1 ratio, I finally see the reason why one should buy one of those Philips 21:9 TV's (yes the only Trilogy I owned was the Special Edition Fullscreen DVD Boxset! ) in those days I owned a 4:3 TV so it was logical to me to get as much Star Wars as possible, thus Fullscreen!

They still zoom the picture though, the Blu-ray's will be in 16:9 Anamorphic with 2.35:1 letterboxing unless they start making 2.35:1 BD's overnight! So no matter what you do there's some technical-jiggery-pokery going on!

I don't think it ever needed confirming but thank you for the link. Unless it's on the Star Wars site first it's a fan mock-up. As someone said it would be odd not to have have images from both trilogies on the box. Plus I expect it to mention each film on the spine like the other boxsets and I expect a big '1st time on Blu-ray' banner in there for good measure.

Although that box art is cool, it looks too empty and yeah, definitely needs pictures from both trilogies.

The wait for new info is killing me, I can hardly wait!

Well that's the way this thread goes and will go until we get the official details and box art, empty empty discussions.

Jiggery-pokery yes, but it's virtually imperceptible. A well-mastered Blu-ray is nothing short of stunning on my 21:9 set.

Out of curiosity, in regards to a 21:9 set, do you ever get any problems with black bar image retention on the sides? I just figure (depending on how much TV you watch on it, etc) since many movies and most TV broadcasts are 16:9 these days, and many movies are also roughly around that ratio as well, that you would probably be watching more content with that ratio than the 21:9 ratio, which would mean that you would have black bars on the sides of the screen more often than not.

I never thought, even for only one moment, that it was.
It's simply a placeholder.

I doubt anyone would actually wish for the blu-rays to be fullscreen, which is highly unlikely anyway.

On the other hand... people wish for the Theatrical Editions (UOT) while there are Special Editions of the movies. So now Iīm confused.
It's.....IMPOSSIBLE!!!

They will be in their OAR for sure. No doubt. That's the last thing we need to worry about.
