Funny; and you are both cowboys too.

First time poster, long time reader.

I think I agree with the majority of frustrated fans in liking ():

Lucas cleaned up the special effects

And disliking ():

Lucas put in crappy jaba cgi in ANH
All updated cgi in the OT (jawas falling off big creatues, etc)
Greedo shoots first
Boba Fett's Australian voice
Hayden's ghost

However, while these changes are disappointing they don't really ruin the movies for me; especially when we all know the originals and it's not like we're going to forget what was changed or anything. It actually is fun to discuss and none of this would be going on without the controversial changes. I'll be buying the complete saga.

If there is anyone here reading this that fits that description please post. I am curious.
I think what you are looking for is an argument with a fanboy. You know, the type whom claims his childhood was raped by Lucas. I don't think you will find that person here. Yes, a lot of us would love to see the UOT, but it is what it is.

On a side note, while I do not like all the additions to the films I find some of them to be just fine. They do not change half the films or even 1% of it. Basically they are 'visual enhancments' that really have zero impact on the plot of the OT. Last I checked the Death Star still blew up, Vader was still Luke and Liea's Dad, Han gets the girl and the Emperor was still a prick. Hayden appearing at the end of Jedi doesn't change any of that. Was it necessary? No. Did I still enjoy Return of the Jedi? Hell yes I did. Do I prefer the OT/UOT to the PT, all you need to do is look at my avatar for the answer to that one.

I agree with you. Some of the effects "freshening" is welcomed and some of the scenes give a similar look and feel that the Prequels do. This is critical because the OT takes place AFTER the PT so it would make sense for them to have the same technologies and look/feel.

I realize that we dont have a lot else to discuss until these films come out but ultimately, most of it sounds nitpicky/trivial to me. Those that must have the UOT will just have to wait until they get their seperate releases or cling to your Laserdisc versions. I dont know what else to tell ya....

I am not looking for an argument or fight with anyone, as I said I have never talked to or met anyone that likes the OT (with PT inserts) that didn't like the PT itself. Not sure why that would cause a fight to hear a persons reasons for liking one and not the other. I stated that I thought it was strange for Lucas to issue them separately if the current (and from rumors we have heard) that he is going to tie them even more together in this release. Personally I don't care what version he releases as I love Star Wars and will buy them all.

I have no axe to grind with anyone as I own everything that has been released officially and unofficially (HD edits etc). As for myself I will buy the box set but I do think its a shame that "Empire of Dreams" is not included in the Complete Saga.

No reason to cling to Laser Versions of the UOT. There are other means available that look pretty darn good in HD, if one is so inclined to search that is.

Welcome to the site

One thing though: Temuera Morrison is from New Zealand. Kiwis have very different accents from us (Aussies). Plus, generally they don't like being told they're Aussies.

I think they went in a new direction. Last I heard they were going to use "This is how we do it" by Montell Jordan.

The Original is the Yub-Nub. The new version is much more fitting the grand events of the conclusion of the Saga.

This star wars blu-ray box set is going to be great. The films themeselfs all 6 are going look great in beautiful 1080p HD hd resolution and DTS HD Master Audio 6.1 sound and I think all of the errors from the 2004 OT DVD's of the Special Editions will be addressed and fixed for the blu-ray release. And for those fans complaining about the original cuts of the original trilogy and why they are not on the blu-ray release take a look at the anatomy of a dewback documentary on star wars.com and that will be on the blu-ray box set in the documentary GL explains why the films where change and restorted for the speical editions because the negatives for the original cuts of the OT had degraded.

Sure thing - the "cling to the laserdisc versions" tend to be the "joke" reply when this comes up so I threw it in there for some humor. Thats all.

There are DVD versions out there but they are non-anamorphic with pretty crappy sound.

It's been confirmed that it'll now feature "I See You" at the end of ROTJ!

Because Mr. Lucas is surely aware that hardcore SW fans will buy all three. And there are lots and lots of hardcore SW fans.

I know it's pretty chilly for May (at least where I am), but I wasn't aware hell had frozen over.

If there is anyone here reading this that fits that description please post. I am curious.
I was arguing earlier about something similar to this-- some of the "prequel inserts" as you call them are inconsequential-- if you didn't know what Boba Fett sounded like originally, his new voice ain't gonna matter.

But what I found to be an extremely crucial change was adding Hayden in at the finale of RotJ. Dramatically, this brings the story full circle with the events of the prequels. Without the prequels, this ending doesn't really work, so you can't keep the OT isolated away from the prequels with this alteration.

So essentially I agree with your statement-- if you actively like the 2004 enhancements, you likely enjoy the prequels. That being said, I am sure there are plenty of people that don't like the prequels that can live with these additions, and care more about having the films in HD than anything else.

But I'm not one of them. I couldn't watch the 2004 versions by themselves, so I'm either going to buy the Complete Saga or skip the release altogether. I haven't made up my mind yet.

I would consider myself a casual star wars fan. They are not my favorite movies of all time and im not extremely knowledgeable in star wars "lore"

that being said i have significant memories of watching these movies as a child and my feelings are mixed on the changes he has made. Im ALL for the alterations with making things look better, like fixing the shadow under the hovership, adding details to the sarlacc pit, etc etc

I dont care about the "greedo shoots first" thing either. You have to practically be playing the movie in slo-mo to notice the difference, and it doesnt affect the story at all. yeah it seems weird that it was even changed but i definitely dont understand the controversy. I refuse to believe that just because greedo now fires off a shot a split second faster that somehow it makes Han Solo less badass... just stop with that one

The only changes that really threw me off were the ones to add in Jabba the hutt, and hands down the worst offender was the addition of those cgi animals and the horrible dance/song stuff added to the beginning of Return Of the Jedi

so i sit somewhere in the middle, im not a fan of the changes, but MOST dont outright ruin the films. Ill admit i used to enjoy ROTJ more than a new hope and even empire strikes back, but with the changes its probably only my second fave now
