They are all successful franchises but can´t match the creative impact Star Wars has. Besides, LOTR isn´t even an original movie trilogy but an adaption which isn´t as good as the books it is based on .
Way to totally miss the point.....

Because they are sequels set in an earlier time period and that's what the word prequel means.

No. George Lucas did not start this story in 1999 and then continue it in 1977.

He's good but he's not that good.

Knowing him, I'm sure if he could figure out a way to do it, he would've.

Really, Palpatine was still in power, Vader was still Vader, and Luke was grown up. Sounds like a sequel to me.

Back before 1977 he wrote the whole script from I-VI. there was no Palpatine in 77 and no yoda it was just vader luke and a princess.

I'm kinda glad it wasn't just about Vader, Luke, and a princess.

Sorry but you are partially wrong there. He only had a short back story but no scripts for eps 1, 2 & 3. Palpatine was there in 1977. In the prologue in the 1977 novel ( titled "The Journal of the Whills") states:

Quote:
Aided and abetted by restless, power-hungry individuals within the government, and the massive organs of commerce, the ambitious Senator Palpatine caused himself to be elected President of the Republic. He promised to reunite the disaffected among the people and to restore the remembered glory of the Republic.
Once secure in office he declared himself Emperor, shutting himself away from the populace. Soon he was controlled by the very assistants and boot-lickers he had appointed to high office, and the cries of the people for justice did not reach his ears.
Yoda was only created for Empire because George had killed off Ben in episode 4 and he needed someone to continue in the "teacher" role. His original name was Minch

vader and Anakin were two different people and he didn't decide to join them as one character until Empire.

It does make me laugh when i see, so many times, people claiming that George had everything planned out from the start, when the evidence proves that he just made it all up as he went along.

Even though it looks like we're going to get a decent amount of deleted scenes by those running times you can probably bet that you could halve the the true amount because they will probably have all the introductions included in those times.

The star wars saga on blu-ray is going to be the biggest selling box set in the history of the blu-ray format since it launched in 2006. A lot of people are waiting to buy a blu-ray player just for this blu-ray box set of the saga. And the box set willl sell a lot of copy's desbite what the complainers say. And the transfer for the films as far as the picture and sound goes will look good. I know when it comes out I will be enjoying the box set and so will other star wars fans.

Yes I agree it will be the best the OT and PT has ever looked. Now if we can just get him to release the UOT in HD then the rest of us would be happy and we could all celebrate.

Lucasfilm should have ported over the bonus features from the 2004 DVD Boxset of the Trilogy. That is a loss, the Empire of Dreams documentary is excellent.

Still disappointing that the Original Versions will not be restored in HD and included on the Blu-Ray set.

I know...I love the UOT so much I would pay 300 dollars for that set if they would have included those.
