The poll also says an Ultimate Box set that has SE and unaltered. Most people want a complete set. I enjoy MOST the changes to the trilogy. I accept that the 2004 versions are the "final cuts". I enjoy the PT. I also fell in love with Star Wars because of the Theatrical Cuts, I was super excited in 97 to see the changes in the Special Editions, and even excited about some of the changes in the DVD release. So in my opinion most people want an Ultimate box set with the theatrical, Special Edition, and "final cut" of the OT and all the special fetures.

Just another couple of thing...

Amazon.com has updated their products pages for these Blu-rays (in the form of a table) The Complete Saga now has a '16 page booklet', but the PT and OT still only have 3-discs.

Also... One reviewer made posted on the OT set with the following:

"This is straight from the PR folks at Lucasfilm:

The Blu-ray discs will feature the 1997, 2000, and 2003 versions of the film, with additional edits made by the filmmaker. There is now one definitive version of the films thanks to technological advances, which have made it possible to achieve the visual effects the filmmaker originally intended. This will be the version released on Blu-ray
"

If this is true, it means a branching facility is being placed on the discs so that the appropriate edits can be viewed depending on the version. Personally, I think this is 'some' great news as it means we some kind of choice. If I had to pick between the 1997 and 2003/4 edits, then obviously i'd go for 1997. No more Hayden for me!

On the downside, it means that if they're sticking to the 2003 version of the film as being the most up to date, then we'll equally have the same awful colour timing.
My understanding of that statement is there is only going to be one version released on the blu rays. I think the reference to 1997, 2000, 2003 versions is that the new blu rays will be a mish mash of all the changes in those versions PLUS more additional tinkering.

Otherwise the comment about: "There is now one definitive version of the films thanks to technological advances, which have made it possible to achieve the visual effects the filmmaker originally intended. This will be the version released on Blu-ray." makes absolutely no sense and is contradictory.

I can't wait for the release. My issue with the SE's was Luke's lightsaber in Episode IV and then changing Anakin at the end of RotJ. If they fix those, I'll be happy (yes, I miss the original Sy Snootles and Ewok songs). My favorite change in the series was adding the 'new' Emperor scene in ESB. I like it better than the original and it connects better to the other movies. I was always confused as to why they changed him so much from ESB to RoTJ.

The 2004 versions are NOT the final cuts. In fact until the dude is dead I am thinking there will be no final cut! There will only be the current cut.

Thats why I put quotes (ie. "final cut"), but I agree the current cut is a more accurate descreption

Not so sure about that. I believe that was the last time they spliced into the original negative. All subsequent tinkering has been in the digital realm, and there has been no subsequent theatrical re-releases on film to require doing any more film-outs.

I think you probably could seamlessly branch the three Special Editions, which is what they were talking about ('97, '04, and '11). Or maybe not, I don't know the exact alterations of every scene in each film.

But it's a moot point anyway, because I think that P.R. line was misunderstood. Like whaleman and shelldweller, I took it to mean that this Blu-Ray version encompasses alterations that began in '97 and ends with the present.

Since there was a bit of a debate about digital Yoda, I recalled an article in the Official Film guide of Episode 2. It mentions that Rob Coleman wanted it to resemble the puppet. When they first saw him in action, they noticed that he was too perfect. Yoda talked correct, but that's not what the audience was used to. Quote: "We realised that a Yoda, which was capable of perfect articulation, simply wasn't Yoda anymore".

Frank Oz then mentioned that this had so much potential and it could do things Frank Oz could only dream of, to which Coleman had replied that that was never his intention. He wanted the audience to still see the puppet, so that everyone would see the same Yoda in both the PT films (2 + 3) as Episode V.

Of course it is not an 100% guarantee though it does make it unlikely that they are going to replace the puppet in Ep. V + VI.

Nah, I doubt and wouldn't like it, if they replaced the puppet Yoda in the OT. Ep. 1, fine, just for consistency.

I doubt that anyone is going to miss the puppet of Yoda in Ep.1, it doesn't resemble either the digital version or the original puppet version.

Hopefully all the digital Yoda's will be of the Episode 3 quality (or better of course )

So true. The OT Yoda even looked much better than the puppet one in TPM.

sorry - i didn't mean physically but i meant in the "public release" sense. you will never see it out on dvd, bluray, etc since the 2004 version is the upgrade to it but yes, it is the still the film they are using for all future alterations (film cells from it available on ebay but not from me, i am not attempting to sell anything here)

Thank you, mods, for cleaning out all that garbage.

It's clear George Lucas does not consider the pre-1997 versions of the OT his "vision" but I do believe that he has a soft spot and may eventually give in. Hell, he could already be planning another release after they do the 3D versions of the films.

The blu-rays will probably sell very well, since those of us who look at specs/video transfers/etc. represent a small fraction of consumers who equally investigate such releases before spending their money.

Speaking of that, have their been any official sales figures for pre-orders? The saga box set is currently in the top 10 for amazon blu ray sales, but that can fluctuate hour by hour.

The OT Yoda was in a condition in which it couldn't be used for filming and then they tried to recreate I recall. Instead we got his scary nephew :P

I apologize if this has been said already, but I'm not interested in reading through this gigantic thread trying to find it. Do we know what I would be missing if I bought the trilogies separately and didn't buy the complete saga box set? I'm not a big fan of the packaging on the complete saga and would rather buy the separate box sets if I am not missing much. I know the complete saga has 9 discs while the separate sets have 4 in each but that is all I know.

Here you'll get a detailed description of Disc 9. The content is pretty underwhelming but I'm buying the Complete Box-Set anyway...
