Probably already mentioned but the scream that Ben uses to drive away the Tusken Raiders is a newly recorded one. Small I know but it is one change that I know of.

Here´s the quote of Matt Wood talking about the new sound at Obi Wan´s appearance scaring the Tusken:

"And, to be honest, that sound effect has been changed again. So at some point the audiences will be hearing that scene again with the new sound effect.

...

[We] decided it should sound even more human. And the human it does sound like… yeah, we’ll talk about that another time."

For those that might want to read something even older than "Splinter of the Minds Eye" this book came out in the fall of 1977. It is a good read and discusses the "Force" as we knew it to be back then. The basic views in this book were widely accpeted as to what we "thought" the force was at that time. It is long out of print but for a Star Wars fan/collector it is a must have.

This might also at least provide some insight to why some older fans were, well confused when TPM came out in 1999 as it changed the entire perception of the force as we knew it at the time.

It is long out of print but you can pick it up pretty cheap on the net for a few bucks...

Well, there would be more "on topic" discussion going on here if more info was known about this release. For the most part the specifics of what all is included on 2 of the bonus discs is still largely unknown.

For that announcement a while back in which "all" was supposed to be revealed, a lot was left out. There's still a hell of a lot that we don't know.

I'd be curious on the verbiage or a citation, if you had one. Would be interesting.

In fact I dont think he had the prequels completely figured out when he started with Phantom Menace.[/QUOTE]

Would have certainly made writing the screenplays easier and avoided many of the last minute changes (Anakin's role in the Jedi Masters vs Darth Sidious, in particular).

The new transfer of TPM was shown in the TV documentary ILM:Creating the Impossible. I did post some screenshots a while back but i can't seem to find it now so here they are again:

Holy smokes, that was supposed to be a scream??? This whole time I honestly thought it was the score. Interesting.

The new transfer of TPM looks good. It looks like from that image that they fixed the DNR issue from the dvd release and brighten up the image a bit.

I wouldn´t rule the possibility out completely... maybe he really does shoot first on Blu-Ray. The main change in that scene was that you see anyone shoot at all, anyway. It doesn´t make much difference.

If I am assuming correctly: The pink tint of Episode 1 was due to inexperience with video encoding for DVD or something to that effect, whilst the green tint of LOTR appears to be an error. So they both don't comply with the director's vision (I am almost afraid to use those 2 words in combination in this thread after all the bickering it causes each time)

I really dont hate that scene on principal (though most do) I hate it for the way it looks. It looks just so unbelievably fake!!

A 25 disc Star Wars set would cost too much money. Your average consumer would find it overkill. Most people aren't aware of the subtle tweaks the films have undergone over the years. Most people simply want six movies and most people don't watch extras on their discs. With that in mind, I think the set they've created is pretty good for fans and standard consumers. I would have done it differently if they were only selling it to me, but as a set for everyone, they've done a pretty good job.

Course he didn't. He even chucked Obi-Wan's timeline out of the window just so he could hire Liam Neeson. Qui-Gon was supposed to have been the younger Jedi and Obi-Wan the older one in Phantom Menace, which would fit the 'old man' of the OT perfectly. Instead he's supposed to be barely into his fifties by the time of the original film. Nice one George.

Still, Lucas has been winging it since the very beginning, never mind the prequels. The Vader-as-father and Leia-as-sister reveals are testament to that.

I get the feeling that the OT-PT continuity wasn't ever really important to him. Lucas had all these ideas of what he wanted to do with his shiny new CG technology, and if he provided the bare minimum of backstory then he could fill the screen with whatever useless crap he wanted. That's why I regard the prequels more as loose remakes rather than direct antecedents of the OT.
