FWIW, I'm so happy I'm not the kind of person who passes on movies I love due to box art, packaging, cardboard, disc art, or other silly things I don't have time to worry about.
People aren't necessarily going to pass on the release because of the packaging. But it doesn't mean that they can't be disapointed by it and express their opinions on the matter. If you don't like those posts, then skip over them.

We absolutely can, and hopefully we can do it in the appropriate thread about the Star Wars movies in general.

He specifically said he's passing on the BD because of the packaging. As you know, it's hard to skip over them since they're reproducing like rabbits in here.

My point is: if you hate the BDs for whatever reason and aren't buying but still want to discuss Star Wars, there's a perfect thread for it.

i agree - just replying to a post already in this thread. anyone know if the movies are hitting theatres again around the time bluray get released? i am not thinking a huge re-release but i know when the prequels were released, a lot of places were showing the old ones again(i think the original trilogy were shown here in the IMAX for a day or two when Revenge of the Sith came out).

I doubt that will happen in advance of the 3D release of Phantom Menace.

Its not until return of the Jedi that luke fixes his lightsaber and finds an old green crystal that he tries to reuse. Lightsaber crystals are like one in a million during the OT..they are a dead and outdated weapon.

It fits the story perfectly...hope this explains it.

Actually it doesn´t... I guess you weren´t serious in this post anyway, but I think we can all agree that the sabers should look exactly the same in all of the Episodes.

It would really be a shame if they didn´t fix the sabers in the original Trilogy to match the ones from the Prequels.

I agree they should look like light and, be more flashier when they connect with other sabers.
Wonder if they will do that for the blu-ray versions.

Seems like there's a few people on this forum who are a little "funny in the head". Like moreso than you would expect.

For the upcoming blu ray release maybe they should revert the light sabers in the OT back to the way they were originally. They can explain in the opening scrolling text that in the PT the lasers have pointed edges due to the Jedi constantly sharpening them. By the time 20+ years pass and we get to the OT, the practice of sharpening them was discovered to be pointless (no pun intended) since they are lasers anyway and why would they have to be sharp? So nobody sharpens them any more and they are rounded, which looks better too.

His Saber in TPM did. He just never ignited it. He got a different saber in AotC with the purple crystal.

The various books and merchandise that came out that tied into TPM showcased the saber lit.

Fun Fact: There's an explaination for the different sabers in TPM and AOTCs in one of the comics.

Starwars.com:

Q. I recently saw the picture of Mace Windu and his new lightsaber in the Insider. Why is it different from the blue lightsaber he had for Episode I? And what's the story about his lightsaber changing?

A. This is the third lightsaber Mace Windu has been seen bearing since the introduction of his character. His latest blade can easily be explained by the amount of time which passes in between episodes -- surely in the ten years that pass between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, an event occurred which necessitated a change in weaponry. That event has yet to be told.

A less fantastic explanation exists for the first two lightsabers that Mace Windu wore for The Phantom Menace. When it came time for actor Samuel L. Jackson to pose for a publicity shot, the lightsaber he specifically requested was not available. When that image was republished, the correct lightsaber was composited onto Mace Windu's belt.

In the Star Wars ongoing comic series, this discrepancy is explained by Mace and fellow Jedi Master Eeth Koth participating in a Jedi tradition called the Concordance of Fealty. "Master Eeth Koth, I have something to return to you," says Windu. "It is a product of your own hands which you once entrusted to mine. In returning this lightsaber, I return your trust." So the weapon that Windu is seen carrying in that publicity still is actually Eeth Koth's.

This is kickass..it actually looks like a painting on the top...the darth vader head. see the whites and the blues? the lines and the brush strokes? its just an impression of darth vader..he doesnt have to look like a photo realistic darth vader for us to know who he is...now look at his eyes? do you see? his eyes are imagined and deep. you can't get this from a photo-painting.

Now I yet to see if this is a real painting..it looks like a painted head of vader maybe on a canvas...scanned into the computer and they the characters placed in different location inside the painting...Obi wan and Luke there on the side are actual pictures superimposed into the painting most likely..its kinda cheating, but I like the impressionist painting look of the covers.

Why did the toy of Mace for TPM ( released before the film came out ) have a purple saber then?

Part of the dicussion here is the artwork for the bluray covers isn't it? it has to do with art... I get you all LOVE Struzan, and wanted him to do this set...I for one am glad he didn't do it.

But I think its radical and impressive to start using art like this on covers...Thank god we have George Lucas!!!

I like the seprate trilogy covers, but am not a huge fan of the Complete Saga cover. I'm not sure who Struzan is, but I wish the art for this release was more in line with the OT Theatrical Posters. Those posters have more of a "saturday morning serial" feel to them. I always thought Star Wars posters should have kinda that Flash Gordan look to them. However that is just my opinion.
