I know it comes down to semantics, but I really don't like the idea that the Lucasfilm employees even referred to these as the Special Editions. Because to me that really should primarily be the term used in reference specifically to the 1997 cuts of the movies.

If it is being used as a 'catch all' term to describe any version of the movie starting in 1997 and going forward, then it really fails to specify a particular version of the movies, but rather it just references anything other than the originals.

Almost everything released is called a special edition.

Hey Ken,

Do you have MS paint or something? I would blot out your email address and full name on that screenshot if you do....just for the sake of safety.

Owning Star Wars...
1995 Trilogy (Faces Edition) - VHS - P&S (Still own this)
Making of Star Wars - VHS
The Phantom Menace - VHS (I have no clue where this one is)
The Phantom Menace - DVD x2 (Gave my first copy to a coworker's kids - replaced it this year for $1 just for the special features).
Attack of the Clones - DVD x2 (Gave my first copy to a coworker's kids - replaced it this year for $1 just for the special features).
2004 Original Trilogy - DVD (sold episodes IV-VI after I got the 2008 release...kept the doc disc for "Empire of Dreams").
Revenge of the Sith - DVD x2 (Gave my first copy to a coworker's kids - replaced it this year for $1 just for the special features).
2008 Original Trilogy - DVD (Gave my parents the SE & PT (movies only) this week in anticipation of the Blu-rays).

All I have left are the "Bonus Discs" from the 2008 trilogy and the 4 special features discs. I'll probably never get rid of any of these...

There's a difference between a so-called 'special edition' DVD or Blu-Ray of a movie, and what was specifically advertised, in-and-of itself (regardless of the format it is put on and any included extras, if any at all) as the "Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition". This is a very different beast.

Ain't that the truth. Can't wait!!! Curious question...you can preorder the 6 film set for $89.99 at Best Buy, is that price a preorder promotion or will it sell at that price for iono...the first week of release?

LOL @ the people who didn't believe Ken, demanded screenshots of an e-mail (which is absurd), and have now gone radio silent.

When they come back and see this, they'll say "whatever dude I have a life and couldn't be here checking all day long for the e-mail" (when, of course, they had enough time to keep coming back here checking all day long to request the e-mail).

I hope Ken gets the appropriate apologies.

i don't mind if they use the 2004 masters as long as all the lightsaber shots and other color timing issues are corrected. Aside from color timing my biggest issue with the 2004 dvd's is the black crush. The entire trilogy is just too damn dark. There is a ton of detail lost....

Judging by the email that Ken received from Lucasfilm it seems that at least for me i can look forward to a proper release of these films that i can hardly wait for.

I just hope that these blus are not DNR and EE to death......

Still no Star Wars BD Early Access app for iPhones and iPods.

I looked at the iPad version again last night, and there's a great extra about Anakin's burns at the end of ROTS. The guys were concerned it would be too gruesome, etc. (and even referenced actual burn victims), and GL gave them the greenlight to "do what you need to do."

As much as I dislike Hayden (sp?), there's a funny clip of him joking around while he's supposedly on fire, on the ground, in pain.

My point wasn't that Ken was lying (I didn't think he was). My point is that some marketing employee saying technical issues are all fixed isn't as convincing as seeing the real thing.

Fair point and, to date, no one has seen the real thing that I know of.

It begs the question, though. What if the response to Ken said "no fixes done, these are the 2004 transfers," and other people here said "yeah, well, she's just a marketing employee so it's not convincing". I wonder how that would be received here....

lol

So looking at Amazon today it's cheaper to preorder both Star Wars sets separately for 39.99 each than to order the combined set which they are selling for 89.99

What are they thinking with this?

Apparently, the 39.99 trilogy sets do not include the extras on discs 7, 8, and 9 of the "collection".

No matter how cheap the separate trilogies are, you still don't get the 3 special features discs, which I think are necessary to this blu-ray release
